OUR WHITE PRESIDENT
In the roughly 13 months since his inauguration, Linden has never once heard President Obama referred to as being white…he has often heard him called our first black President. This hardly seems fair! After all, he is half white and half black and one race should not be considered as being solely responsible for his lackluster performance. Even if he were considered to be doing a good job, this would be a racist attitude. For the next 13 months, Linden will probably refer to him as our white President but will still call him The Corpseman because of his language usage blunder.

Since his list of shortcomings is so long we will not cover foreign missteps in this writing. The following partial deficiency list is arranged in no particular order:

“We’re no longer a Christian nation.”
Appointment of Eric Holder brought a number of terrorist defenders to the Department of Justice.
Rabid support of a bad healthcare bill.
Appointed a tax cheat as Treasury Secretary.
At least four other appointees withdrew because of their actions.
Lied about not appointing lobbyists.
Supported TARP.
Supported the “stimulus” package.
Appointed a large number of “czars”.
Allows his wife to have a bloated staff.
Sweetheart deals for Wall Street insiders.
Takeover of auto production companies.
Sweetheart deals for union members.
Association with ACORN.

Had breakfast with the Thursday morning guys, went to the post office, did a load of wash, talked to Brian and exchanged emails with Julie. Little else. If that is all, how could I feel like I was busy all day?

TODAY COULD BRING TRAGEDY
By this, Linden means tragedy for out country if the Republicans fail to guard us from the forces of evil. How great it is to know that they are, to this point, considered to be the party of no.

It is difficult to trust those who are dedicated to passage of a really bad healthcare effort and it is equally difficult to trust the slant that the news media will provide for this effort.

So, since the news has largely focused on the upcoming healthcare event and little else of note has happened, Linden will today bring you links that focus mostly on sports.

He thinks that Sarah Palin makes sport of her opposition. The rope jumping link is beyond compare. The golf link makes Linden feel even worse about his game. Linden knew nothing about the game of cricket, let alone cricket for the blind, until viewing this link. Finally, the music link will strike a chord for those of us who are fortunate enough to have daughters.

Had a good session with my Study Buddy in the morning, have no idea what happened to the afternoon—certainly nothing of major importance was accomplished. Dinner and program at church. After the program one of the attendees, Kim Snodgrass, tripped over a rug and had a hard fall. The ambulance came and I hope they took him to the hospital.

Due to a famine in Jerusalem Naomi, her husband, and their two sons moved to Moab. Over time, the sons married Moabite women and, later, along with their father, they died. Naomi decided to return to Jerusalem: one daughter-in-law stayed in Moab and the other, Ruth, said she would stay close to Naomi in every regard, including accepting her God.

Ruth gleaned in the fields of Boaz in order to secure food for herself and Naomi. Boaz was a relative and according to the custom of the day, was obligated to marry Ruth. He was pleased to fulfill that obligation. They had a son.

Boaz was the son of Rahab who had earlier hidden the Israelite spies. About 1100 years later Jesus Christ was one of their descendents.

Linden gratefully acknowledges that two items from the Monday Rush Limbaugh radio show provided the impetus for this posting. The first item was an audio clip of The Corpseman using the word “ax” instead of the correct “ask”: it is enough to make Linden happy that he did not attend an Ivy League school.

Having viewed several articles and clips covering the Golden show, Linden has to wonder if all those supporters are still solidly in the corner of The Corpseman. The article link immediately below brought several thoughts to mind: The economic crisis mentioned still exists and is, perhaps, worse, dreams of providing college educations for the kids is still problematical as is the dignified retirement for the oldsters and the lines about creating jobs ring hollow. Obama’s laugh at McCain advocating a study committee to address problems now seems out of place since Obama just launched such an effort.

If P. T. Barnum did say, “there’s a sucker born every minute,” he must have been predicting the reaction of the crowd in Golden, Colorado

Linden is well aware that the CPAC convention was held, that filing for the Indiana primary election has closed, that Obama is probably planning mischief, and all sorts of other items that those reporting the news will attempt to appear excited about. But, for him, the real news is that the temperature finally rose above freezing on Friday and did the same on Saturday and Sunday. It don’t get better than this. There is no other real news.

Some days ago, Linden posted that he was considering throwing his hat into the primary election ring for the 4th District seat in the U.S. Congress. Today, at noon, is the filing deadline and Linden ain’t gonna do it.

He had constructed a campaign strategy based upon a very low budget, accepting no contributions, and defining his operating intentions if elected. His primary purpose in even considering such an effort was to encourage candidates in other sections of the country by illustrating that it can be attempted using a low budget approach. This worthwhile goal was overshadowed by the fact that he would have regretted it if he should happen to win. He does not want to spend a lot of time away from Plainfield at this time.

When Laura got him started in this endeavor over two years ago, Linden had no real plan or goal. It has taken more time than he ever thought it would but it has been enjoyable. Hopefully some of his writings have been beneficial to you and he has to believe that many of the links he provided have pleased you.

The links provided today fall within the must read category. Newt Gingrich writes about how the Tea Party movement has had a positive effect on Conservative thought processes. The Obama article illustrates ineptitude within the ranks of the democrats and the media who are charged with the responsibility of reporting news.

Had the Study Buddy session with my second grader in the morning and went on to the credit union, grocery and post office. Had dinner and attended the program at church in the evening. When I returned and headed down the lane to the parking area in front of my house there was a truck stuck in the snow just to the North of my driveway. A caterpillar was there to get it out and was blocking my drive—he moved it a bit and I got in—it is getting really slick between the car and the entry and, since I tend to fall, I have to be really careful. The men had been doing some repair of the sewer lift station.

JUDGES
Following the death of Joshua the Israelites lived in a land of plenty with, normally, no strong central leader. They were a federation of 12 tribes. There were probably 13 Judges during this period of probably something like 300 years or so.

Within this period, the Israelites, as was their custom, had periods of idol worship and other actions which caused them to be oppressed by neighboring tribes. Remember, GOD had given them specific instructions for settling the Promised Land.

When the Israelites realized that the periods of oppression were caused by their disobedience, they would cry out to GOD to forgive them and he would. They would live as they should for a period, then sin again.

The strong man Samson was the last and most well known of the Judges.

DECISION MAKING
For maybe a couple of weeks Linden has been considering the possibility of throwing his hat into the field of the already crowded race for the 4th Indiana District Congressional race. The decision needs to be made before Friday. He would very much like to see how inexpensively a campaign could be launched – this could encourage new candidates across the nation.

But, with voter dissatisfaction being what it is, it may be possible, although highly unlikely, that he would win. Although he could almost certainly serve with no less distinction than that of many current members of Congress. That is also true of millions of ordinary taxpayers.

Although the pay is quite good and sufficient staff is provided to help address any problem, the actual serving is something that Linden does not find particularly appealing at this time of his life. After all, he is of the age of Moses when he went into Egypt to save the Israelites.

If Linden should decide to run and if he should win, his intention would be to focus on excessive spending, excessive taxation of both individuals and business, the insane budgeting process, to not support any overly long bill, to not support any bill that is being rushed through the process, and to attempt to effect change in campaign financing to cause leftover campaign funds be used to reduce the national debt shortly after each general election. Linden finds the report that Senator Bayh has 13 millions dollars in his campaign fund to be more than a little disgusting! Oops, Linden forgot to mention that he would not accept any pre primary contributions.

Friday brought Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Later, Kent and I went to Danville to file as candidates for election to be Delegates to the Republican State Convention. I’ve been elected Delegate probably 15 times and this may be the last time I run.
Saturday, had a writers group meeting and watched Butler basketball.
Sunday brought morning church services, Sunday school, and evening church services.

In the roughly two and one half years that Linden has spent attempting to educate you through this blog, he has, on more than one occasion, mentioned the failure of the Republican Party to field a candidate against an entrenched democrat. It is a disgraceful record of ceding almost ten percent of the House to the Forces of Evil. Surely it is better to have a less than stellar candidate who is also underfunded than to have no candidate at all.

With all the snowblowers that are operating throughout our country, Linden appreciated Rush Limbaugh saying that today should be called “National Combustion Engine Day.” So much for global warming!

Was still snowed in today but Bob or Ray applied the snowblower in the afternoon and I made it to the post office. Kent called later to see if I needed anything. I informed the school early that I would not keep my Study Buddy appointment-they had delayed the start of school anyway so it didn’t matter. Received a call from the church saying that our usual dinner and program had been cancelled. .

It is believed that the first five books of the Old Testament were inspired by GOD and written by Moses roughly 1400 years before the birth of JESUS CHRIST.

Upon the death of Moses, GOD appointed Joshua to lead Israel to the Promised Land and to keep the commandments and laws as he led them.

Joshua sent two spies into Jericho in the Promised Land. They were protected by the innkeeper, Rahab. They promised protection for her and her family. She is remembered to this day.

GOD stopped the flow of water in the Jordan and the priests carrying the ark and all the people crossed on dry land. A monument was erected to commemorate the crossing.

The LORD guided the Israelites to a miraculous defeat of Jericho. Then, due to not completely obeying, they lost the next battle. From then on, the land was conquered. At on point, the sun stood still until the battle was won. Then, the lands were divided among the tribes and cities of refuge were named.

The book ends with the people declaring that they will obey The LORD and, shortly after, Joshua dies.

Although it was not necessarily by the means that Linden would have preferred, the reported death of Representative John Murtha on Monday and the earlier death of Senator Ted Kennedy did accomplish something that Linden has long desired: The reduction in the length of time that Members of Congress will “serve” if they continue to remain in office as long as they wish.

It would probably serve no real purpose for Linden to express his reasons for believing that these two were a blight on the Republic. So, he will not do that. Instead, let him just say that each person running for these offices should express his personal stance in regard to term limits and then be judged by the voters. Since the voters are not always astute and Congress would have to approve any change, it is not likely that we will ever see term limits.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00 a.m., parked the car in the barn because we were to get lots of snow in the night. We did!

On Saturday Bob and Ray or Bob or Ray cleared the snow from in front of the barn door and blew away the huge pile of snow leading to the gravel driveways. Bless them. I was able to make it to the Library’s local author affair. Laura Day of the Library had feared that it would have to be cancelled. Attendance was light but it was fun. In the evening, watched a great movie based on a true life story about a teacher with Tourette’s syndrome.

On Sunday, Steve White brought a great message based on the sheep and goats mentioned in Matthew 25. Chris Klay, at the time of communion made a good comparison between sin and cancer and, in the Sunday school hour, John Lee did his usual good job of presenting a lesson based on Luke. Had a good evening church service then went to Kent and Donna’s to eat pizza and watch the Super Bowl. The pizza was better than the way the game ended.

Linden believes that every posting should not be deadly serious. So, this is meant to satisfy his belief. Listened to a bit of Rush Limbaugh on Thursday and heard (twice) our President refer to a Naval Corpsman as a corpse man! As a result of this blunder you may wish to reassess sending a loved one to Harvard.

The U.S. Air Force was known as The Army Air Corps not too long before Linden enlisted: had it been referred to as the corpse, Linden probably would have served in a different branch. Please do not make the mistake to telling a member of the U.S.M.C. that they are a member of the Marine corpse.

In the same rather lighthearted vein, Linden heard (or read) some place that the governmental agency that reports on unemployment had made a mistake of roughly one million unemployed persons! If this is true, one needs to discover how many are employed at taxpayer expense in this agency and then compute their cost-benefit ratio.

INDIANA PRIMARY
There is still a couple of weeks before the last day to file to have your name included on the Indiana primary ballot and at least two of the potential races are starting to become interesting.

In the primary election to select the Republican who will oppose Bayh in the general election there are perhaps as many as five vying for the nod. It is said that former Senator Dan Coats will file soon, former Representative John Hostettler has apparently filed the necessary papers as has current State Senator Marlin Stutzman. I believe two others have also announced their intention to run but their names have not appeared in recent news that Linden has seen or heard. It should be interesting: Linden will address this again after February 19.

Unfortunately, current Representative Steve Buyer is retiring due to the illness of his wife. The race for his replacement in the 4th Congressional District should be crowded. Two who are well known in Indiana have announced their intention to run as has two others who are, perhaps, not as well known. Linden would not at all be surprised to see as many as three others file within the filing period. Then, we should see and interesting race. Linden will also report on this after February 19.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Had a pleasant session with my Study Buddy and then went on to biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A. Good! Tried but failed to expand my computer knowledge. Brian called. Dinner and program at church in the evening.

DEUTERONOMY
Moses recounts the history of the forty years of wandering (until practically all of the old and unfaithful Jews had died) and includes the winning of the lands east of the Jordan river and the killing of all the previous inhabitants.

The conquered lands were given to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manessah with the stipulation that the men must assist in the conquering of the lands west of the river. Because of the earlier sins of the people, Moses will not be allowed to set foot on this promised land.

Moses reviews the Ten Commandments and all the other laws given to the Israelites by The LORD and cautioned them to always obey these laws. He also predicted that the Israelites would turn away, be conquered, and, later, return to the worship of The LORD. Moses tells how the LORD had them to build an ark to hold the two replacement Ten Commandments stones that Moses had smashed earlier.

Moses wrote down all the laws and distributed them. He also presented them with a song and a blessing. Then, Moses went up on the mountain to die: he was 120 years old, still strong and with good vision. According to the instructions given by The LORD, Joshua was now the new leader of Israel.

So ends our review of the first five books of the Holy Bible as were written by Moses the greatest prophet.

MONEY MANAGEMENT
The bit of political type news that Linden heard Monday centered mostly upon the “budget” that Obama was submitting to Congress. Little of what was heard was complimentary. His spending is of an amount that would cause the excesses of Bush to look like the bank account of the average homeless person.

There was little time on Monday to plan this posting so it will be used to point out just a couple of areas where spending could easily be decreased without there be a negative effect on the nation.

Discretionary type spending within the White House itself is, at best, disgusting. Each of the “Czars” should be terminated. The personal staff of Mrs. Obama should be reduced by, say 90%. In other areas, the Pelosi plane should be grounded. The budget should call for a spending level of less than the previous year, not a 3% increase. A movement should be started to cause federal unemployment to match, on a percentage basis, that in the private sector. These reasonable suggestions are presented to you without Linden performing an in depth analysis.

The first link below very clearly shows how easy things could be for the Republicans (and disastrous for the country) if they would only agree completely with the Obama regime (in a bipartisan manner, of course).

Apparently he is not yet aware that his party has more than enough members of both the House and the Senate to pass anything other than the most deeply flawed legislation. For proof, just look at some of the trash that has been passed. Then, if you want to get sick at your stomach, look at what else the Obamaites favor.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Friday, Julie was in the area for a short time—took me to Gray’s in Mooresville for lunch. Great eatery! She had meatloaf and I had fried chicken livers. Good! As we were leaving, she found $5.00 on the floor and returned it to the cashier in the hope that the owner would surface.
Saturday, I finished the editing I had been working on, read a lot and not much else. Did watch a decent movie.
Sunday, morning-church and Sunday school, afternoon-paper reading and little else. Back to church in the evening.
