LUCKY LINDEN

There has been so much coverage of the shortcomings of our present Medicare system and analysis of the Paul Ryan attempt to head off the collapse of that system that Linden thought perhaps he should see what may lie ahead for him.

Linden, being 81 years of age and covered by the present Medicare system thought perhaps he should check on how soon he should provide his children for another reason to worry. So, thanks to his trusty computer, he discovered that his present life expectancy is seven more years in this vale of tears. Then, by checking on the anticipated life expectancy of the current Medicare system, he found reference to it going bust in 2018. Lets see, that is seven years from now…Linden and Medicare will die in the same year!

Unhappily, for those younger than Linden, the news is not so good. For each year you are younger than Linden you will have to find some sort of coverage after 2018. You may wish to study the Paul Ryan proposal. Good luck.

LINDEN’S LIFE

With Bill having returned from the Ukraine, all five of us, Bill, Chuck, Jack, Paul, and myself were present for our Thursday breakfast meeting. It was a good time with perhaps the highlight being Rapper Jack reciting, as we discussed Mitch Daniels not running for the Presidency, “if your family can’t take it, you ain’t gonna make it!” Recording not yet underway.

After I picked up my mail and returned home, the four Owens kids, ages six and under, came over from the Mission House. Last year, when Jade was two, I bought a sack of alphabet blocks for her to play with…they were pretty popular with the four kids.

NEWS REPORTING

The reporting today seemed to be primarily focused on the unhappy results of an election in New York and what these results portend for the future of conservatism. Primarily pap!

Not fully reported (Linden’s view) was the con job that is covered very nicely in the first link below. Probably reported fairly well has to do with the upcoming Senate race in Indiana (second link.)

MATTHEW 5:1 – 7:29

This section, commonly known as “The Sermon On The Mount,” depicts Jesus apparently addressing his comments first to his disciples and secondly to the huge crowd that had gathered on the mountain.

Starting with listing nine different attributes or efforts that are called “blessed” then, verses 5:11 through 5:16 may have been primarily directed to the disciples and the remainder of the reading being directed to all who were present.

Verses 5:21-22 expands on one of the Ten Commandments as do verses 5:27-28 and others.

Verses 6:9-13 contain what we know as “The Lord’s Prayer.”

SHOULD LINDEN GO TO IRELAND?

Those who know Linden best and those who have followed some of his writings are probably aware that he has made some efforts (entirely unsuccessful) to plan a trip to Ireland in the relatively near future. Having heard or read that the crowds are “ecstatic” over the visit of Obama causes Linden to question whether he would be comfortable in such an environment. Maybe the guy who called the Rush Limbaugh show from Dublin should be listened to: he indicated that the crowds were neither large nor ecstatic and that he wondered how it could be that Obama was able to identify a long ago ancestor yet had trouble producing his own birth record.

RECENT POLITICAL HAPPENINGS

On the national scene, Obama got some very bad press and was largely ignored by some of the media outlets when he gave the appearance of stabbing Israel in the back. Since he always comes back and adjusts earlier statements, it is hard to tell. Also, Newt Gingrich probably severely damaged his Presidential aspirations by, in a faux pas, appearing to disparage a Republican effort.

Many were disappointed by Mitch Daniels announcing that he would not run for President: Herman Cain announced that he would. The list of candidates will continue to grow.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Later, I went by the Mission House, post office, pizza place, credit union, and a store.

Saturday: attended a great meeting with the guys at Kingsway church at 7:30 and a writers group meeting at 10:00. In the evening I picked up a couple of large pizzas, took them to the Mission House and had dinner with the Owens and their four children. Brian and I left each other messages.

Sunday: church and Sunday school in the morning. Later, listened to some music and the race qualifications, did some paperwork, a little writing and watched it rain a few times.

LINDEN’S LIFE

On Thursday, I met Chuck, Jack , and Paul for breakfast at 8:00. I was supposed to meet Bill Strafford in the church parking lot at 10:00 to go to and Indianapolis Indians game…they apparently did not see me so Bill and three others went on while John Wiggins looked until he found me and he drove to the zoo parking lot and we made the long walk to Victory Field where Bill met us and we went up to the suite. It was very nice and food was furnished…I stayed inside most of the game (which the Indians lost) but sat outside long enough to almost get hit by a foul ball: it glanced off the wall just to my left, struck me lightly in the back and came to rest in my seat where Bill picked it up and I now have a souvenir. Several others joined we six and I knew some of them…one was an Indiana State Police retiree that I hadn’t seen for over thirty years. He works for the Indiana State Supreme Court. After the long walk back to John’s car and the drive to Plainfield, I was dropped off and then my car wouldn’t start. Ray Hays came out of the church with a jumper, got me started and I drove to see my mechanic where Robert fitted the car with a new battery. I was tired when I arrived home and took a very nice nap.

LINDEN IS ALMOST JEALOUS

Linden greatly admires the writing abilities of Kyle-Anne Shiver and often agrees with her stance in regard to her chosen subject. He, if he were inclined at all to jealous, would be so in regard to the difference in our writing abilities. It takes Linden hours to prepare his modest postings. Follow the below link to her message for today.

The other two links to articles are also well written and well thought out and are worth your time to read. The one concerned with our freshmen Representatives mentions our own Indiana 4th District Congressman, Todd Rokita. Good job by both the writer and Todd. The link to music will lead you to a song that Linden has not thought of for some time.

MATTHEW 3:1 – 4:25

John the Baptist was preaching and baptizing in the Jordan river. He chastised the Pharisees and Sadducees and warned that soon one would come who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. Jesus did come and was baptized.

Jesus was led by the Spirit to the desert where he fasted forty days and forty nights. At this time the devil came and tempted him with various promises but Jesus turned the devil away and angels came and ministered to Jesus.

Jesus started his preaching and healing ministry around the countryside and called the first disciples, Peter, Andrew, James and John and great crowds came to Jesus to be healed.

WHY LINDEN LIKES RUSH

Rush Limbaugh led off his Monday radio program by commenting on the recent Indiana Supreme Court ruling that Indiana Police could invade the homes of Hoosiers for any reason or no reason at all. Surely this cockeyed ruling will be appealed.

Another of his areas of comment had to do with the spectacular failure (from the taxpayer standpoint) of the Obama stimulus. Rush refers to it as a democrat slush fund and he is absolutely correct. The link immediately below addresses this very nicely.

I was talking to Jan Simpson who was just coming out of the post office as I was going in when Dick Hamilton came in: he and I joined the Indiana State Police on the same day, years ago. I see him about once a year, usually at the post office. I went from there to the dry cleaners, on to pick up some church related stuff from Doris and then returned home in time to fix lunch. In the evening, five of us went down to Camp Allendale for a great meal and program.

YOU CUT

Linden feels a bit guilty about telling the Indianapolis Star that he was canceling his subscription…did not gracefully accept a price increase. The reason for his guilt was that he did appreciate an article concerned with a move in the House to get citizens involved in addressing cutting the cost of government.

Apparently they intend to hold a weekly vote on three suggestions for spending reductions. Linden voted for the one that was presented as saving the most money…the extra benefit is that any reduction would affect the worthless U.N. It represents just a baby step on the road to fiscal sanity but it is a move that would never have seen the light of day six months ago. Check it out on this link: http://majorityleader.gov/YouCut/

NOT YET ENDORSEMENT TIME

Linden has a great deal of admiration for the writing and thought processing abilities of Kyle-Anne Shiver: she penned the piece presented as our first link below. I am relatively sure that she did not intend the piece to be an endorsement…rather a potential candidate who is most worthy of serious consideration. Linden would agree with this assessment. He judges Sarah Palin in the same manner and could easily support a ticket that had either one of them at the top of the ticket and the other as a running mate.

For those racist types who voted for our present lackluster President only because they considered him to be black, please be reminded that Herman Cain is twice as black as Barack Obama. Perhaps these voters are not racist at all but have just not yet learned the alphabet beyond the letter D.

CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE SELECTION

One thing that most Republicans and even more Conservatives can agree on is that the present White House occupant is woefully inadequate for the job. Even some of his previous muddleheaded supporters now agree.

However, candidate selection will remain a daunting task for some months. The list of potential candidates continues to grow and will continue to increase. Linden agrees with the thinking evidenced in the link below that Huntsman leaves a lot to be desired. It is telling that a report says that Huntsman would be the candidate most feared by the democrats: that is probably a lie. Until some other can come close to matching the abilities evidenced by Sarah Palin, she will remain Linden’s first choice.

MATTHEW: INTRO TO 2:23

Many believe, because of his references to the Old Testament, that Matthew was written to influence the Jewish people. It was probably written before A. D. 70. The first 17 verses of chapter one are concerned with the genealogy of Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Christ.

Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph but before they came together (this indicates that they did come together later) she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Joseph first intended to divorce Mary but he too was visited by the Holy Spirit and then understood the pregnancy. So, they became man and wife. The birth of Jesus fulfilled the prophesy of Isaiah 7:14.

After Jesus was born, wise men came from the east following a star so that they might worship him. King Herod wanted to be notified when they found him. After they worshipped Jesus in Bethlehem the wise men did not report to Herod.

Joseph was warned by an angel to escape to Egypt because Herod wanted to kill Jesus. Joseph followed the instructions of the angel: Herod ordered all boys two years old and under who were in the vicinity to be killed. Joseph and family returned to live in Nazareth after Herod died.

Tuesday I dropped off recyclables, went on to the post office and did some other running around. Later in the day I attempted to mend my favorite robe but pretty much failed. It is nice to identify the things I don’t do well. I went to the Mission House for a few minutes in the early evening, they and their four kids, ages one to six, will be staying there until the end of the month.

FECKLESS FEDS

There could hardly be an estimated twelve million illegal (not undocumented) immigrants in our country if our federal laws were being enforced as they should be. For some reason (probably political) the federal government has decided to not enforce existing law. Those responsible should be removed from office.

Arizona Governor Brewer has decided to appeal directly to the Supreme Court in an effort to at least allow Arizona to attempt to do the job that the federal government will not do at this time. Linden wishes her good luck in her effort.

A little later than usual, I met Sam for a good breakfast…we were celebrating my receipt of income tax refunds. Following the meal, he came to my place and showed me how (if I can only remember) to do some computer tasks. It is always nice to visit with him. After he left, I went to the post office, the credit union and a grocery. I should have already received some insurance related mail!

BUSH BEATING

After reading and watching the lamestream media beat up on George Bush for eight years it has been interesting the lack of focus this same media has on Obama adopting as his the policies of Bush. Could it be that the “news” we are presented is nothing but propaganda for the leftists? In case you are interested in the correct answer to that question, it is YES.

To verify that the above answer is correct, check the following link and attempt to find any press coverage of the flip-flops.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Went to the post office and, in the afternoon, went to a difficult pre-funeral calling. Later, had a nice long talk with Brian as he was driving home from the airport after some time in California.

Saturday: met with guys from Kingsway church for breakfast…we had a good meeting and I was given some money to assist with my help the needy effort. Went to the funeral at 11:00…I think it could have not have been performed any better. It was unbelievable how many different people commented about the influence the deceased lady had on their lives. They talked about her Christian faith and her suffering for the past 20 years. I hardly knew her, wish I had made more of an effort.

Sunday: Church…Justin delivered his last message at PCC. They are getting a dandy at Columbus…he is just like his dad. Went to Sunday school after church. Linn Chitwood and several other had recently returned from Haus Edelweiss in Austria, she delivered some very good chocolates to me as a present from Dimi and Kevin at the Haus. Loved them! Later in the afternoon I went to an open house type affair for Justin and Michelle…ate a lot and visited a bunch also. Nice time…stayed until about 7:00.

MAYBE SHE WILL RUN

From time to time, Linden has written on his admiration for the various attributes of Sarah Palin, his appreciation of her common sense, and his lack of understanding of the fairly high percentage of people who have bought the oppositions mantra that she is dumb and unqualified. She makes Obama and many of her potential Republican opponents look shallow by comparison.

The first link below illustrates Palin’s thoughts in at least five different leadership areas. Have you read any such thought by any of her potential opponents, including Obama? The second link touches upon one of many unqualified appointees. The link to music is good.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Thursday started with meeting Bill, Chuck, Jack, and Paul for our usual long and pleasant breakfast. Later, went to the credit union, post office, and three stores. Tried again to put together solid info regarding a potential trip to Ireland. The Owens family of 6 moved into the Mission House Wednesday evening…haven’t seen them outside yet.

BIG NEWS OF THE DAYS (DAZE)

Linden listens to a great deal of talk radio while reviewing articles for possible inclusion in this blog. It has been either puzzling, funny, or somewhat disturbing to hear the administration attempt to explain the killing of Osama Ben Laden without giving any credit to the Bush administration or the success of interrogation methods used. Hopefully it is true that he was actually killed.

What has been largely ignored has been the successful implementation of the training and preparedness of the Navy Seals and their support staff that actually completed the mission. That was not politics: it was war!

LINDEN’S LIFE

On Wednesday, still tired from election day, I did a load of wash, returned election signs and related items to Kent, picked up my mail, and had a wonderful nap. Dinner and a study at church in the evening.

BIBLE STUDY RESUMPTION DELAYED

In the previous two years and four months, on Wednesday’s, Linden has reviewed reading the Bible twice. His intention was to restart that effort with a more in depth study of the New Testament today. He didn’t get it done. However, you should enjoy reading the linked article and hearing the linked hymn.

LINDEN’S LIFE

On Tuesday, got my blog posting accomplished about noon, rather that first thing as is usual. At 6:00, was at the Duke Energy election polls with wet feet…it was cold and rainy. About 7:00, Bryan Kelly-Walker, a sophomore at Plainfield High School, joined me…I enjoyed his company. At 8:30 I met Paul at Hope Presbyterian church and we went to Chick-fil-A for breakfast. Then, I went home, thoroughly chilled. Put on dry clothes, sat in my recliner and went sound asleep…I had slept poorly the previous night. Awakened and went back to the polls where I stayed until closing at 6:00. Then, Kent, Donna, and I went to Danville to get the final election totals. Kent, for whom I had served as Campaign Chairman, won handily. We went on to a pizza place with Fred and Phyllis and Wes and Suzie. It was a good but long day. I was back home before 10:00.

HARD TO BE CHARITABLE

With what seems like a lifetime of admiration for those involved with military type intelligence matters, it is not difficult at all to believe that the success of the Ben Laden termination leads directly to perhaps two unnamed workers at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

With a much more recently developed lack of confidence in our President and belief that the truth is rarely in him, it is also not very difficult to accept as true those writings that are less than congratulatory of his efforts. Perhaps that is why I chose to present the following link to a Mark Steyn writing.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Monday was a good but busy day. I went by Don and Donna’s to pick up the pineapple upside down cake she had saved for me. Love it! Then reviewed tomorrow’s election day matters with Kent. Picked up my post office and mail box mail on the way home: received both my federal and my state income tax refunds. Yay! Paul took me to Chick-fil-A for lunch and we went on to view the election sites we will be at tomorrow. Noticed that gas was $4.29 per gallon at most stations so, after I returned home, I went to Wal-Mart and filled up at $4.07. Is it too soon to start asking if others hold Obama responsible for these prices? Stopped by the church on the way home to pick up items that Ken left for me. In the evening, drove by a couple of the voting sites to see if Kent had put signs out.

RACISM REPENTANCE

RACISM REPENTANCE

Linden thoroughly enjoyed the program when radio host Laura Ingraham interviewed Harry Alford, CEO of The Black Chamber of Commerce. He is not now an Obama fan. Not even close!

When asked why he had voted for Obama he said, “because he was black and that is a lesson I will take to the grave.” You have to like a repentant racist. He also predicted that not more than 30% of blacks would vote for the re-election of Obama. That would be a welcome tidal wave of repentance.

When Linden added the first link below, he had no idea that he would find another one that is so impressive that he just had to share it with you. So, be sure and watch the second link video and if you have time, watch the other links also. The one regarding safety should be important to some of you.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00: Sandi cleaned my place while I was at MPB. Later, went by the church, post office, credit union and two stores. Brian called for a short visit after I returned home. Harold brought me two large morel mushrooms that he found while mowing the yards.

Saturday: went to a department store to check on a sale…bought nothing. Went by the post office and on to the writers group meeting. Back home, fixed the mushrooms as part of my lunch. In the late afternoon, Antonio Gomez, his wife and their three children arrived from St. Louis to spend a couple of days in the Mission House. Julie called later.

Sunday: We had a great combined service in the gym of the middle school…usually we have six services divided between two church locations…saw some people that I rarely see. Shortly after I got back home, Julie and Jade came by to take me to lunch. This was Jade’s third birthday…Friday was Brian’s…not his third. Back home, we played, watched a DVD and visited. It was great! Brian called while they were here.
