Attended the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00 and a memorial service at church later in the day on Friday. Did a couple of loads of wash and met the fellow who, with his family, will be moving into the Mission House. Saturday brought car doors frozen shut and not a lot else of consequence. Sunday was church, Tim preached on John 15, and in Sunday school, John continued with the study of Judges. Had brunch with friends. Later, had a nice visit with Brian. I am surely enjoying the satellite TV he got me: this week I watched two good movies, some basketball and some boxing.

A TICKET/VIRUS SCAM:

Thursday evening I received a valid appearing message from what appeared to be American Airlines: it showed the flight and ticket number as well as the destination. I found a telephone number for American Airlines and was told that they were receiving a large numbers of such inquiries. Said not to open the attachment since it contained a virus. Just delete the message.

Had breakfast with my Thursday group at 8:00 and was at church at 11:30 for a Golden Glows pitch-in (I took cream puffs) and program. About 2:00, Cheryl dropped by for a nice visit as she was on one of her infrequent visits to Plainfield. Later, Julie called and we got caught up. Brian had left me a message earlier in the day. Any time I hear from both kids is a good day.

NUMBER EMPLOYED:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics in Linden’s opinion provides us with a ton of totally worthless numbers. As an example, they just quit counting some of the millions of unemployed who “drop out of the labor force.” Using that approach you can easily show, if you choose, a dropping percentage of those considered to be unemployed while the actual number of unemployed is rising. Perhaps it would be more meaningful to look more closely at the total who are actually employed. We know that U.S. population continues to rise so it follows that the total who are employed must rise to keep even with the unemployed percentage. After years of rising employed during the Bush years, it leveled off at roughly 138 million for the 06-08 years. Upon the election of President Obama it immediately went into freefall being about 131 million in March of 2011. It, hopefully, bottomed at about 129 million in February of 2010. Remember, the total must continually rise to account for increased population. The Obama years have been a disaster…are you partially responsible?

The title of this writing is simply to take Linden’s mind off of the first two links which serve as reminders of two levels of malfunctioning government. The first link, in Linden’s opinion, is just another illustration of President Obama’s complete disregard of our Constitution. The second link illustrates the failure of the court system to adequately address election law. Aaargh! The good link illustrates in a cute manner a situation which should be much on the mind of every American who is not facing death in the near future.

MIKE PENCE:

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is widely regarded as the best Governor of any State within these United States. That view is certainly shared by those who met with Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, at The Coachman restaurant in Plainfield at 2:00 Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Mike and about 100 of his supporters from throughout the State had filed 13,000 signed petitions to cause him to be the first official candidate for Governor to succeed Daniels.

Mike and Karen were warmly greeted by the roughly 50 attendees of this first actual campaign event since becoming a validated candidate. Each of them shared a few words with us and answered several questions. He is very impressive and will undoubtedly continue and expand upon the conservative stance that has been nicely illustrated by Governor Daniels. We are blest to have Mike Pence as our candidate for Governor.

Linden had originally intended to post a commentary entitled, “Can a Christian be a democrat?” but decided to only plant the thought in your mind and allow you to consider it without further input at this time. Some of the news reports indicate that Christians are abandoning Obama by the boatload.

No, instead of asking such a question, Linden will only call to your attention the fact that Obama has taken numerous actions that are anti Christian also, he has a record of being anti military. He is now attempting to cause you to forget his record and begin to paint a new picture. He knows that truly image is everything in the political realm.

If time management has ever been one of my strong points, that time is long past. I am so slow that I feel almost entirely non-productive. Steve continued leading the study of Ecclesiastes at the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday: as usual we were treated to good food before the study. Later, I did a load of wash and some writing. On Saturday I attended the men’s meeting at Chapel Rock. Another good breakfast and Fred spoke on making choices. Sunday brought church services with Steve presenting Matthew 8:5-13 and John began the study of Judges in our Sunday school class. Then, I joined friends for brunch before returning home. In the evening, I watched the Super Bowl with the McPhails…both the game and the snacks Donna fixed were super.

TERM LIMITS:

Linden has probably mentioned term limits before. His thoughts in regard to the subject have wavered between the two extremes over the years. Now, he supports the concept but realizes that it is probably not going to happen unless there is some way to effect it without the need for legislative action. Our best bet, and that would also be difficult to effect, is to cause a majority of voters to refuse to vote for an incumbent who is attempting to serve longer than Perhaps 12 years. Richard Mourdock, who is attempting to unseat long serving Senator Lugar, recently stated his support for term limit legislation. You may find the following link to be interesting:

INDIANA CHANGES:

With Dan Burton announcing that he will not seek re-election in the District he has represented for years and Richard Lugar facing a stiff challenge for his seat in the Senate, Indiana representation is likely to change in a major way. At least four contenders will vie for the seat Burton now holds. Richard Mourdock has much Tea Party support and further support from those who are unhappy with Lugar’s record of Supreme Court Judge confirmation. It should be interesting.

Linden is preparing this for posting before he has any of the election results so, this addresses other matters relative to the election. First, he has no solid favorite at this juncture but, if forced to do so would now rate them in the following order: Santorum, Gingrich, Romney, and Paul. Any of the four should prove to be light years better for America than the current White House occupant.

It is unfortunate that so much of the focus in this campaign has been devoted to personal attack type campaigning. Perhaps it is well to get undesirable facts out of the way early so one can be prepared for the slander that will follow once the Republican candidate is selected. It would be nice if every word of attack were followed by the statement: “this is not good but it is not nearly as bad as…name an Obama shortcoming.”

On Tuesday, I dropped off my recyclables, picked up my post office mail and went on to two stores. At 11:30, Laura came over from Danville. We talked a bit about getting me more knowledgeable about Linkedin and the like, then went on for lunch at Chicago’s Pizza. It was a very good lunch and a most enjoyable conversation. As is not unheard of, I accomplished little the rest of the day.

LOOKING WEST TO UTAH:

The importance of this election year is not restricted to only the race for the Presidency…no, it is of almost equal importance if we are to rid our nation from the grasp of do-nothing other than spend “leaders’ we now are saddled with, that conservatives gain control of both the House and the Senate.

In this vein, Linden stumbled upon the news that Utah has a newly created District where at least four candidates are running in the June 26 primary election. It is a bit too early for Linden to make an endorsement but he was favorably impressed with the Mia Love presentations. Perhaps partially because of the happy thought of having a black, female, conservative as part of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday as usual brought good food and a good program. Other than Brian answering a TV access related question for me, I can think of little activity on Saturday other than talking to him and Julie as I also did on Friday. Sunday brought church services and Sunday school followed by brunch with friends and little activity in the afternoon. Steve White’s sermon started with referring to Matthew 20:29 and the subject of blindness. He closed by referring to two kinds of people: lost and saved. In Sunday school, Larry Vandeventer led the class through the final chapters of Matthew.

FAIR SHARE = WHAT?

Linden believes that President Obama thinks that we believe him when he says that tax rates should be increased on those he classifies as rich. Some, including Linden, think that “fair share” as it pertains to taxation should mean that every American person receiving income should pay some income tax. A difference of opinion seems to exist.

The first link below addresses taxpayer employees who are apparently failing to pay their “fair share.” How can this be? The second link regards voting fairness. Surely none would disagree that each qualifying American is entitled to one vote. Anything in excess of this one vote is an excess of their “fair share.” Some, including Linden, view it as an attack on America.

ANOTHER SMALLISH MISTAKE

Linden believes that most of us would agree that one million is a figure that is hard to easily visualize, one billion is even more difficult and one trillion is beyond imagination…even though all of these numbers are thrown around in Washington as if they had no real dollar related meaning. We would also probably agree that it would be desirable for our nation to be released from our dependence on largely mid-east oil. For President Obama to stop the development of the Keystone Pipeline causes Linden to question just how much regard our President has for our country.

The number of American jobs not gained by the unfortunate decision of the President has been estimated to be from 20,000 up to ten times that number. If we accept the lower number and estimate the average pay per job to be only $50,000.00, we arrive at the amount of one billion dollars in unrealized pay. At a tax rate of only 15%, the lost revenue is 150 million dollars per year. One must ask, “is the President on the side of America?”

I started my day by scanning the morning paper and eating biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A. Jack and Helen came in when I was almost ready to leave…we visited a bit. I mailed the tax form that I prepared yesterday and picked up more mail than I wanted to go through. In the evening, I had dinner at church and attended a program after dinner. SOTU = MEANINGLESS

This, Linden made the wrong choice last night: he could have happily watched The Shawshank Redemption…well, perhaps happily is the wrong word, as the movie certainly has some less than happy moments. But, no! He chose to watch the State Of The Union message from our “leader”.

He spoke glowingly of the military…a group he has largely disparaged for most of the last three years. He will do everything he can to help business succeed…his approach in this area to date has been flawed. Oil and gas may be okay but green energy is the answer…aaaargh!

Although there was the usual tax the rich mantra, there was no mention of any logical reason to stall the pipeline construction and on and on and on. The frequent applause lessened Linden’s opinion of a Senate that has been unable to pass a budget for 1,000 days. Meaningless!

Mitch Daniels made a much better presentation: “the condition of the country is grave”. “providing government jobs with borrowed money is not the answer” and Medicare and Social Security problems must be addressed. Linden should have watched the movie.

It was mostly a quiet day at home interrupted for a time by one of my least favorite tasks…preparing my 2011 book and CD sales tax report. This tax form is not difficult and, once the records are found, presents little problem. No, the problem arises when I do self-evaluation as to why my sales are miniscule when compared to what they would be with a competent sales oriented manager. My best idea to date is to ask for prayer…we may try that in 2013.

This, of course, is written with the thought in mind of showing tangible support for those who would or could oppose those 35 members of the Indiana House who intentionally fail to report for duty. Not surprisingly, they are all democrats.

If each one of these slackers were opposed in both the primary and general elections at this level, the $5 per opposed “Representative” is a very small amount of money and the total of $350 is not a huge amount. However, if 10,000 people decided to adopt this method of attempting to rid our State of these non-producers, it could have a very positive effect. Think about it!

Biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A provided a happy start for my day. Then, I picked up my mail (nothing exciting) at the post office and went by the church to drop off a reservation for a trip to Johnson Bible University later this spring and to welcome Bob Nysewander back to work after time off to recuperate from surgery. Picked up the rest of my mail at the mailbox and spent the rest of the day inside working on various aspects of a writing project.

A GLIMMER OF HOPE

At a time when the citizens of Indiana are being treated to evidence of the democrat members of our state legislature proving beyond a shadow of doubt why they should never be returned to office, it is pure pleasure to read of a spontaneous show of support for Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.

Reports indicate that his reforms have resulted in that state moving from a budget deficit to a budget surplus, taxes being reduced, and school districts becoming solvent. It is hard to understand how any taxpayer could be opposed to the changes he has put into effect. Yet, a serious effort is being waged to nullify his election. WHEN LIBERALS RUN CITIES

Look at almost any large U.S. city such as Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New York, New Orleans, Chicago, and Los Angeles and you will that the politics of the city is dominated by liberals and the city is marked with a degree of mismanagement and corruption that causes one to wonder about the intelligence level of those that are electing their leaders. It is sad!

The article linked below mentions such a condition in Detroit and mentions four members of Congress that any thinking person would agree have been “serving” far too long. Look closely at any one of the four and you will probably find that they have been adept at serving themselves.

OTHER STUFF

Now that the pressure of my suspended election campaign is over, although I expect an Indianapolis radio station to call me shortly after this posting is completed, I have pretty well completely returned to my pre-campaign day to day activities. Tuesday began with biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A (Jack and Helen joined me there) and was followed by visits to a grocery, my credit union, and the post office before I returned home for a quiet day. In the evening, had dinner followed by a program at my church. If the standard is that a church, if it is to remain tax exempt, must not engage in partisan politics, one has to wonder how Ebenezer Baptist Church of Atlanta, Georgia manages to retain their tax exempt status. Although my memory may not be as good as it once was, it does seem like they have been presenting biased political rhetoric, such as that in the below link, for a long, long time. Sad!

URINATE WHERE?
It is a fact of life that urination is a normal process for the population at large and that the selection of where to do so is most often a personal choice. Much media attention in recent days has been given to the report that four U.S. Marines chose to urinate on the bodies of some deceased members of the Taliban. Not so much attention has been given to the fact that prior to their demise, they would have happily slit the throats of the Marines.
Linden believes that the whining about the affair by the current leaders of our country only serves to illustrate their lack of support for our military in general. Agggh!

Now that the pressure of my suspended election campaign is over, we can divert our attention to other matters. First, my activities were usually of the standard day to day matters, ending with church and Sunday school.

INTENTIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS
11-7 Being frugal, rarely vacationing, and not subscribing to cable television allowed Linden Swift to accumulate funds for a special 82^nd birthday event in early January 2012. The New Hampshire Presidential primary election was selected. Winning is the primary goal. Being under funded and probably the oldest candidate means that it would take a miracle to achieve this goal. Republican National Convention selection would require a second miracle. Therefore, a secondary goal is to exceed the 362 votes Al Sharpton amassed in a previous election. This could result in Linden being awarded his own TV show.
11-7 Read 1 Corinthians 9:24.
11-7 Consider Herman Cain for VP: a man with uncommon ability. Being twice as black as the President, he should receive twice as many racist motivated votes.
11-8 Consider Sarah Palin for VP: a woman with uncommon knowledge and ability. Even knows where Naknek, Alaska is located.
11-7 Campaign donations will not be solicited or accepted until after the Republican Convention.
11-9 Foreign policy will be set after reviewing recent successes. WAIT!…there are none!!! Now what?
11-7 Following completion of my term(s) I will have my Presidential pension reduced 10% per year until it reaches the level of workforce (non governmental) average pay.
11-10 If interns are allowed in my White House, they will not be allowed under my Presidential desk.

LINDEN’S LIFE
I INTEND TO RETURN TO NORMAL POSTING ACTIVITY TOMORROW.
Since I wanted to focus on election related matters following my posting one week ago, I did not post on Tuesday (election day) through Friday of last week. As you probably know, I finished 24^th out of the 30 Republican candidates. Some election related items that occurred were: The New Hampshire VFW posted a copy of my You Tube Presidential Announcement, Brian told me that Rick Perry had also not made it to New Hampshire…said he probably wasn’t able to get a room either. The Indianapolis Fox news station came by for an interview on election day…it was enjoyable and Kent McPhail also said a few words on the video. I think Brian told me that night that he was the video in North Carolina and Lisa told me on Wednesday that she saw it in Maine. I had two more interviews on Wednesday and viewed the one from the Indianapolis Star on the Internet. The rest of the week was spent returning to normal activities although I continued to receive nice comments about this endeavor.

LINDEN’S LIFE

AFTER MONDAY I WILL TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF FROM POSTING.

On Saturday, I attended the Men’s Breakfast at Chapel Rock Christian…Fred Rodkey had a good message. Household stuff the rest of the day.
