GRASSROOTS

Before starting with today's subject matter, I would like to call your attention to our "title the photo" contest which was announced in our January 28 posting.
-----
It has been said that all politics originates at the local level: Linden believes this to be true and that is the primary subject of today's posting. There had been a very heavy snowfall predicted for our area last night so I was not certain that I would attempt to attend our Hendricks County, Indiana Republican Roundtable early this morning.
The snowfall was not nearly to the predicted extent so, although I do not enjoy driving on dark snowy and slick roads as much as I once did, I made it with no problems. Certainly nothing like Fred Palmer telling me, while I was enjoying my first cup of coffee, about a deer near the roadway making him a bit nervous.
State Representqtives Greg Steuerwald and Jeff Thompson were the speakers at today's meeting. Property tax issues are the primary focal points in the current legislative session and they covered the efforts that are ongoing to address this knotty issue. Jeff has served for several terms but this is the baptism of fire for Greg and he will do well: He did tell a funny story about sitting in the wrong place at his first caucus meeting.
Indiana is almost at the point of open revolt over excessive taxing of real estate. One of the things we can be thankful for is that all amendments to any bill is that the amendment must be germane to the bill to which it is attached. It would be good if such a restraint was in place at the federal level.
Pete Miller, our very competent Republican County Chairman, and I were the last two to leave the meeting and he did me the favor of clearing the ice which had formed on my car windows while we were meeting. What a nice guy! What a good meeting. What a great Party!!!

HELP WANTED

It appears that in the last general election there were no Republican candidates in 39 districts scattered across 15 states. These positions offer much more than just good pay. Some of these districts are listed below in State, District and general location sequence. Please help find a Republican candidate in these districts. Even if these districts can reasonably be considered “lost causes,” the effected taxpayers need to have a choice.

California 20 Fresno area – One Found?
California 31 Los Angeles County
California 33 Los Angeles County – One Found?

Georgia 5 Atlanta area

Maryland 5 Calvert, Charles & St. Mary’s Counties – Three Found?
Maryland 7 Baltimore & adjacent Counties – Two Found?

Michigan 13 Wayne County area
Michigan 15 Detroit area

In recent ratings, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste considered 32 of the present officeholders (democrats) to be hostile, 6 unfriendly, and 1 lukewarm to taxpayers. The National Taxpayers Union granted a grade of “F” to 36 of this group while 3 of them rose to a “D”.

WHAT IF?

Surely you believe that the liberal dominated news media is very, very selective in what “news” they will print or report. Have you noticed the absence of reporting about the improved situation in Iraq? There are, of course, other examples but Linden will assume that you can think. WHAT IF, you complained to the lackluster “news” provider and, if satisfaction is not obtained you then call those who advertise in that medium? Your message could be something like: “ I am disappointed that you choose to advertise in or on …. Who will not report…. Perhaps this approach would pay dividends in the form of less biased news coverage.
