MEMORIAL DAY

Many were called and most of us went
Having no choice as to where we were sent
Marching and training all the long day
Doing it all for minimal pay
Graduation came with its showy parade
Assignments were coming and most were afraid
Will I be sent to the front lines to serve -
When called to kill will I lack the nerve?

Those who returned were torn and tattered
Wondering how much their sacrifice mattered
Those appeasers in the party politic
I must admit just make me sick
And I find I want to shout
Help me throw the bastards out!
