A DIFFICULT MONTH
It
has been one mostly miserable month since Linden last brought you a blog
posting. About 10:30 in the evening on Sunday, May 6 my phone rang, it was my
son, Brian who had just flown into Philadelphia for a Monday business meeting.
He had just been informed that his 19 year old son, Jacob, had been shot and
killed where he lived in California. I finally understood that he couldn’t get
an immediate flight back to Ohio and was going to rent a car and drive back
home and he wanted me to notify his mother and his sister, Julie. I did so and
called him back a couple of hours later while he was driving home.
The
next three weeks were consumed with various aspects of memorial services in
California and Ohio. It is still hard to imagine that this tragedy should
strike my family and even harder to accept. Last week I joined 50 others from
my church for our annual visit to Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee.
As usual, a wonderful variety of events was provided and, except for my sadness, it was an outstanding week.
Tomorrow
should bring a return to the normal blogging routine.
