UNWEDS

Linden finally decided to address this subject because of the attention a group of pregnant teens brought to Gloucester, Mass. But, it has been on the back of his mind since reading an Indianapolis Star article by Tim Evans this past January. The article was entitled “About 80% of black babies are born to unwed mothers.”
Linden has never read an in depth report on this societal problem that does not hold up as the ideal family the one that is headed by a married mother and father. Surely there are exceptions but statistics look at percentages.
Linden would define the two major contributors to this ongoing disaster as being (1.) The glamorization by TV, movies and the print media of some of the single but pregnant celebrities who are admired by those who are impressionable and (2.) Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty.” This “war” reduced many black men to the position of being unwelcome in the family setting: After all, the government paid the mother to get rid of the father. Why such a large percentage of blacks support the democrats is a mystery to Linden. But, that is a subject for another time.
Since many of these teens have not had a loving father-daughter relationship, they have no idea how to handle the pressure of a boy or young man who is primarily interested in sex. Other contributing factors include a need to feel loved, low self esteem, no stable household, family poverty and countless other reasons.
Congress should address the deficiencies of the welfare system (good luck on that,) attention should be given to those who are fathering these children and, because of the normal disadvantages the newborns are inclined to suffer, it (unwed parenting) should be considered a form of child abuse.
