EZRA
Ezra recounts some of the history of the return of the two Jewish remnants to Jerusalem.

When Persia replaced Babylon as the world power, King Cyrus, in the first year of his reign, authorized, encouraged, and subsidized the return of almost 50,000 Jews for the purpose of rebuilding the temple and Jerusalem. This was in about 536 B.C.

The work started and made some progress but the people who now populated the surrounding area objected to the extent that work was halted.

Almost 70 years later, Ezra lead, with the blessing of the current king, a much smaller group to Jerusalem to fulfill the earlier expectations. He was much disturbed by the forbidden intermarriage between the Jews and the idolatrous locals. Those who had strayed in this matter agreed to send their wives and children away.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Attended the Republican Roundtable at 7:00…two candidates running for CD 4 spoke…each did well. Later, I performed a few small tasks including finding my favorite birthday card…bought nine of ‘em. Did a bit of paperwork and, of course, never got around to addressing the things I should.
