ELECTION 2008

From this blog’s inception date in October of 2007 until the present time, Linden has made no secret of the fact that John McCain was not among his first choices for President in this election. However, in making a comparison between the headache (not conservative enough) of John McCain to the leg amputation (increased taxes+++) of Barack Obama, there should be no doubt as to who would be the best leader for our country.
Linden was fortunate enough to hear a major portion of the speech McCain made July 1 to The National Sheriff’s Association. In it, he said “But nowhere is the influence of a President more critical to law enforcement than in the power of judicial nominations.”
It is not just the Supreme Court; it is the ability to set the tenor of the entire judicial system! McCain went on to decry the overturning (by our five most liberal Supreme Court members) of the Louisiana law which allowed the death penalty for one guilty of violent child rape. Did not Obama vote against the two most recent conservative nominees?
In other areas, he expressed his opposition to legislative earmarks and appeared to have some (but not enough) worthwhile thought in regard to immigration. In other writings, McCain has stated that Obama will surrender in Iraq, will increase the size of the federal government and will raise your (my) taxes.
Perhaps if we could turn out some of the more disgraceful members of Congress, we may even be able to effect a change in McCain’s opposition to oil production. So, in the end, the question is: “Would you rather have a headache or have a leg amputated?”

LINDEN'S LIFE
Monday was, as is not unusual, not a tremendously productive day: Went to the post office, the grocery and visited a bit with those who remained in the Mission House. They left shortly after. Most of my concentration today was on working on getting some writings ready for publication. This will be an ongoing effort. No TV today.
Tuesday, Linden met some guys for coffee before playing nine holes of golf with Dewey, John and Paul. Did not play quite as well as last week but acceptable, by my standards. Received several calls about possible activities this coming weekend - am getting some opposition to my decision to not join in. We'll see.
