ANOTHER SATURDAY POSTING

After a few really enjoyable days with about 60 members of my church and probably close to 250 members of other churches at Johnson Bible College near Knoxville, TN, Linden needs to catch up on two of the segments he normally posts on a Monday through Friday schedule. Political commentary will probably resume next week.

LINDEN’S LIFE:
It must be about an eight-hour bus ride from Plainfield to JBC. Joe, our driver performed admirably. This was the sixth time for Linden to attend “Senior Saints in the Smokies” and each year seems to outdo the previous year. The food is invariably plentiful and very good; Linden attended three very good morning classes and went to an afternoon recital by seventeen-year-old Jenna Weaver. What a voice! She had appeared in prior years but was even more outstanding this year. Dr. David Eubanks, The former president of the college, presented thoughts on The Holy Spirit on three mornings and one evening. Very enjoyable! The other evening presentations were simply great. Luckily, only one day presented a noticeable health concern for Linden. The current president, Dr. Gary Weedman, who is a former member of our Plainfield church and his wife, Janis, shared the Thursday evening meal with our group. Then, some of the group toured current building efforts with them.

BIBLE STUDY:
1 KINGS 9:1 – 21:29
The LORD speaks to Soloman and his wealth, notoriety, and wisdom increase. Soloman strays from The LORD and, as a result, his son will lose power. Soloman dies and his son, Rehoboam starts losing power.
One tribe, in Jerusalem is led by Rehoboam; Jeroboam leads the other tribes and he turns his back on The LORD and The LORD lets his son die as do Rehoboam and Jeroboam. The many leaders of Israel are evil for many years. The prophet Elijah performs miracles including one in competition with a prophet of Baal. This prophet is then killed. The long drought ended and Elisha became the attendant of Elijah. Wars continue and the leaders of Israel continue to try the patience of The LORD.

ACTS 8:14 – 13:15
Peter and John work in Samaria and Philip converts an Ethiopian. Saul is struck blind on the road to Damascus and becomes the believer and leader who will become known as Paul. The other disciples have a hard time believing that Paul is on of them. Paul heals a paralytic and raises a dead woman to life. Peter teaches Cornelius and those with him and The Holy Spirit comes on them. Peter convinces the disciples that the gospel is not restricted to the Jews. Peter is led from prison by angels. King Herod dies. Paul, Barnabas and John Mark are sent on a missionary journey by The LORD.

PSALM 130:1 – 137:9
PROVERBS 17:2 – 17:16
