DEALING WITH IRAN: Reader Paul Levitt is reminded of these words from John Howard:
If you imagine that you can buy immunity from fanatics by curling yourself in a ball, apologising for the world - to the world - for who you are and what you stand for and what you believe in, not only is that morally bankrupt, but it’s also ineffective. Because fanatics despise a lot of things and the things they despise most is weakness and timidity. There has been plenty of evidence through history that fanatics attack weakness and retreating people even more savagely than they do defiant people.
I miss him.

LINDEN’S LIFE:
Saturday morning brought the prayer meeting at Kingsway: P. V. John was the speaker. He, a missionary in India, mentioned the incredible abortion rate of girl babies there and said that the father of the current Miss India wanted her aborted or, later, killed. Her mother, choosing between her husband and her children, chose the children.
Sunday, FATHER’S DAY, brought church and Sunday school services, a long call from Julie and the same from Brian. He said he had a gift for me in the mail. Later, Julie and Jade came by for a long and most enjoyable visit. She brought a sack full of snacks for me and a DVD of a very good movie that we watched. We went to Grays for take out food that we brought back to my place to eat. Jade is getting very close to walking and now has six teeth.
For me, it was a wonderful day. For those men, often aided by the involved woman, who have not accepted the responsibility of being a father, you have made this day less than memorable for the affected child.
