JULY FOURTH WEEKEND

Had it not been for the great Americans our country was blessed with over two hundred years ago, there would have been no reason or thought to celebrating with fireworks this past weekend. Had not George Washington been the type of leader he was, it is difficult to imagine how our country would have progressed. Had George Bush not been the type leader he is, who knows if we would have had this recent celebration with the collective feeling of national security we have. We are blest.
On the evening of the Fourth, Linden was invited to view the fireworks at Carl and Shirley's. Their home is on the South end of the small lake across from where the Plainfield fireworks show occurs. It was a fabulous show and was made even better by the playing of patriotic tunes by the orchestra that was there.
On Saturday, Carl drove the three of us plus Bob and Gayle, who were up from Tennessee, to a birthday celebration for Jack and Jim. It is probably 60 miles to the site of the party and there were probably at least 60 in attendance. Very nice surprise party for the two honorees. Jack and I have been friends for over 50 years and his friendship with Jim is even longer. Great Saturday!
Linden's Sunday was the normal church and Sunday school services followed by brunch with friends. In the evening there was a nice service outside on our North property. This was followed by hot dogs, chips and drinks. Pretty enjoyable.
Bill and Barbara Furman had met Bill and Mary Buher of Bloomington, IN while they were at Haus Edelweiss in Austria. They had discussed my interest in a student there that they all had met. So, the five of us went out for ice cream and had a great visit. An email was sent to our friend in Austria after Linden returned home. Great and busy weekend!
