COMMENTARY: MONEY WELL SPENT

Linden is not wealthy: far from it. But, in 2014 he did scrape together enough that he could make a modest contribution to several candidates he thought could effect a change for the better in governmental leadership. The article linked below indicates that he may have been correct in his assessment of at least candidate.

COMMENTARY: PORKER OF THE YEAR

This award is designed to call attention to the person who is most worthy of being designated as the one who failed to properly serve the needs of the taxpaying public. Not surprisingly, there are many “public servants” who should be considered when choosing the worst of the worst. What should be the result of being so dishonored? Since Congress controls the budget process, perhaps the answer if to penalize the agency or group involved. This answer calls attention to the folly of baseline budgeting.

In our increasingly Godless world (Christian God anyway) there appears to be more people opposed to Christianity than there are those who believe. How could an article be more upsetting than the one linked below? The level of disregard for human decency in the article would have been utterly unthinkable just a few years ago. A bill that was designed to tighten allowable immigration into the U.S. was mentioned as having failed to pass: it was not mentioned that it was blocked by the democrats.

COMMENTARY: DISAPPOINTMENT IS PART OF AGING

Linden does not know why he is so disappointed with Sarah Palin endorsing Donald Trump for the Presidency...but he is. Linden has been an admirer of her since she first burst upon the national scene as the best of the 2008 Presidency related candidates. We, as a country have already experienced the bottom of the barrel in Barack Obama so in no way does Linden think that Trump would not be an improvement...it is just that he believes that Ted Cruz or possibly Carly Fiorina would be better for America. I slept poorly and was awakened the last time by the sounds of the snow removal workers clearing the snow from the parking lot. I got up about 5:30, tuned in Liz Nolan on RTE and attempted to nap in the recliner. Failed. At least some of the E-mails I send to not identify the sender by name and the recipient considers them to be spam: naturally, I'm not very happy about this but have no idea how to successfully address the problem. I had another call saying the IRS was going to sue me...I hung up. Again. I talked to Brian and in the evening had dinner and attended a study at church.

COMMENTARY: PREPARING FOR ADULTHOOD

This preparation should include the administration providing the students with the workforce related knowledge which would enable them to compete in an unfriendly world for a life's work that will come closest to providing them with their needs and wants. It is doing them a disservice if it instead attempts to create a group of whiners who are ill prepared for the workforce. The primary problem is the liberal bias of a high percentage of those who are supposed to be imparting knowledge. The article linked below addresses this very nicely. Perhaps the board of trustees of the school mentioned in the article should be held immediately responsible by the taxpayers.

COMMENTARY: THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Linden subscribes to The Indianapolis Star Thursday thru Sunday and does so only because he does not wish to interfere with the income stream of the carrier. It pains him to support what he considers to be a liberal rag. They appear to be rabidly opposed to Governor Pence and a featured writer is about as unbiased as...never mind. Linden's least favorite editorial writers are E. J. Dionne and Eugene Robinson...they appear to be the favorites of The Star. Robinson was the favored one on Monday: Linden read his effort while having breakfast. According to Robinson, one of the democrat Presidential candidates favors raising the federal minimum wage to $15.00 per hour, providing free college tuition (at least for some), and wants the wealthy to pay their fair share. Really dumb! Probably the same should be said of those who think the same. The good old days were prior to the present ownership of The Star.

Monday began with me venturing out in two below zero weather for biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A. I had gotten up in time to hear almost all of Liz Nolan's radio show on RTE before having breakfast. Later, Tyler and Adriane Leland picked me up and we along with their two young ones went out for pizza and conversation. Good time! Brenda, the Secretary from my last full time job (almost 20 years ago) called while I was out: I returned the call and we had a nice visit...her health hasn't been all that good in recent months and is now recuperating from having a big toe removed. I also tried to call Alison who returned to college yesterday, missed her.

COMMENTARY: PAY THE PIPER TIME?

Over the years Linden has been critical of many things (and people), two of these things were government regulations and government spending. Often he would point a finger at those he held most responsible for their support of actions he believed to be most detrimental to the good of the taxpaying public. Almost always this person or persons were labeled as progressive democrats.

Friday as usual started with the Men's Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Back home, I napped then went to pick up my mail. Talked to Brian and received another unwelcome call from Cardholder Services.

Saturday I didn't realize how slick and icy it was until I got out of my car at Kingsway: we had a good meeting and I was careful driving home. Back home I went to a funeral at church, picked up my mail and watched some of Butler and all of the Indiana basketball games: they both won.

Sunday brought church and Sunday School attendance and, since it was cold and snowy, I returned home. Talked to Brian and, being a Peyton Manning fan, watched Denver win their football game.

COMMENTARY: THURSDAY'S TWO DEBATES

It is probable that any discussion related to this subject will contain some personal bias: this posting is no exception to that thought. The debate considered to be the undercard offered the views of three candidates: Carly Fiorina appeared to be the clear winner. She would probably be difficult for any other candidate to overcome in head-to-head competition.

The seven candidates vying on the main stage generally did a good job of presenting their thoughts and opinions. To this writer, Ted Cruz appeared to do the best. Most impressive were his mentions of the bias of the New York Times, matters relating to citizenship and gun control.

Thursday started with breakfast with the guys then this was followed by a trip to the grocery and the monthly Golden Glows luncheon at 11:30 where Tyler Leland presented the devotions. He and his family will be sorely missed as he returns to his home church at the end of this month. At home I shoveled a bit f snow, Dan brought me a new snow shovel, Jason came by and returned my computer to service. Later, I talked to Julie and watched most of the debates.

COMMENTARY: SOTU CRITIQUE

This posting was originally scheduled for January 14 but Linden's computer ineptitude made that impossible: so, the five-day-a-week postings will now include Saturday.

Wednesday found me at Chick-fil-A for breakfast then I picked up my mail. It was a very cold four degrees outside so I was mostly inside. My computer went on strike.

Thursday I failed to do the usual blog posting. I met the guys for breakfast at 8:00, went from there to a grocery and was at church for our monthly Golden Glows luncheon and program: it was nice. Came home and shoveled a little snow which was melting nicely. Jason came and the computer is happy. Talked to Julie for a bit.

Linden has now presented more than 2,000 blog postings and in many of them he has been critical of baseline budgeting and the means by which a “budget” is prepared by congress. COMMENTARY: A RECENT NOTE RE OBAMA

This note, from my Indiana 4^th District Congressman, advised that HR3762 was designed to repeal much of Obamacare and also delayed federal funding of abortion services by such as Planned Parenthood. The Bill passed the House 240-181 with almost all democrats opposing it. Your President vetoed it January 8. It is hard to believe or accept that some will support this type of representation blocking.

Friday started with the early Men's Prayer Breakfast and when I got ready to leave the car wouldn't start: it was raining and Dave brought me home. Later, I talked to Julie and Alison.

On Saturday, Kent came, got the car started and I drove it to his house, we had coffee then he cleaned the corrosion off the battery posts and it starts like a dream. John took me to a meeting at the Legion Post then I went to Keith and Rosaleen's anniversary and birthday celebration at church. Dan came by for coffee, told me snow was expected so I put the car in the barn.

Sunday started with church and Sunday School attendance and when I drove back home the snow had made the drive outline hard to see, I went off the side and got the car hung up. John picked me up again and we went back to the Legion Post to help judge the really impressive four girls in the oratorical contest. I brought some food home, called AAA, and the car is in the barn again.

Monday was a busy day...I was up at 5:00, went back for another nap about 7:00. Later, I picked up my mail, mailed a package to Alison, talked to Julie for a while and met Sam for lunch at the Milano Inn . Got back home about 3;00 and had a call from Cardholder Services on the answering machine, went to a bank and talked to Brian. I had many, many happy birthday messages. Later in the evening I talked a bit to Brian, Sheri and Marc: today was also Marc's birthday.
