BED BUGS AND A FORMER OBAMA SUPPORTER

BED BUGS AND A FORMER OBAMA SUPPORTER
It could be that the subjects in the title of this piece really have nothing to do with each other, but Linden thinks it is a pretty good title even though both subjects possibly pertain only to conversations Linden heard or engaged in earlier in the week.

The subject of bed bugs came up while Linden was engaged in conversation with a fellow who is in the pest control business. He said that they were now a real problem, particularly in hotels. Efforts to eradicate them were not entirely successful and were very expensive. Linden wondered if perhaps DDT should have never been banned. Certainly a Congress that can buy global warming hook, line, and sinker could also be sold a bill of goods in regard to pest control. Maybe Congress should restudy the subject.

Rush Limbaugh spoke at length on Tuesday with a very intelligent sounding lady who admitted to being Conservative and having voted for Obama in 2008. Sounds mutually exclusive! She, although liking Sarah Palin simply could not stomach the idea of voting for McCain. Understandable! She thought Hope and Change could not be all bad. Although it is not likely that she will ever vote for another democrat, the Republicans should try hard to understand the demand that we be provided with better candidates.

Regarding the links below, Linden believes that you will appreciate the poem, the Laurel and Hardy dancing, and the song. Linden had an older sister named Evangeline.

LINDEN'S LIFE
I stopped by the church for some conversations as I was on my way to both a store and to pick up my mail. Also, went to Chick-fil-A for a breakfast of biscuits and gravy. Good! Scott came by my place after lunch and fixed my computer access problem. In the evening, had a good dinner and attended an equally good program.
Good recent postings at http://www.doerbitter.com/ and http://www.kissesfromkatie.blogspot.com/ also, since Linden listens to both morning and evening classical music on WICR, here is a link to the Fine Arts Society to whom he just sent another donation www.fasindy.org

ZECHARIAH
Coming on the scene very shortly after the prophet Haggai, about 520 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, Zechariah encouraged the people to continue rebuilding the temple and to turn away from sin.

In the latter part of this short book, Zechariah made several references which are thought to predict the coming of Jesus Christ.

Visited for a few minutes with the men who are working on the property sewage lift station went by our youth facility for a moment, dropped off recyclables and picked up my mail. Dan and Diana came by to see if I wanted to go to lunch but I was expecting Scott to come by to look at my computer so didn’t go. The computer was a source of frustration all day. DELAWARE + DOJ BIAS
Thankfully, nothing really crazy that the Reid-Pelosi Congress did made the news that Linden heard today…you have to cherish a day such as this.

The first link appearing below pretty well tells the whole story as to why no rational person will vote for the opponent of Christine O’Donnell in Delaware. The Rasmussen poll viewed today (Monday) showed her as being down only 9 points…Linden has to believe that sanity will attack the undecided voter and O’Donnell will overcome her nasty opponents.

The second link provides evidence of the reason why the next Congress, if the Republicans gain control, should thoroughly investigate the Department of Justice. Heads should roll both in the DOJ and some other areas of the Obama government. Holder should be quickly fired and Obama impeached for naming him to the position.

The third link is a bonus and the music which is the following link, is good.

My standard quiet day. Went to the post office and on the way back, stopped by the church, picked up Ray and we went to the Mission House to check on the heating and cooling which I thought was not operating properly. I was correct.

Later, phone calls, e-mails, and some writing filled the rest of the day.

MOSTLY INDIANA
Since political news of major importance seems to be in short supply, Linden will just focus on Indiana matters today.

Of the total of seven political contributions he has made so far in this campaign season, two are in Indiana: To Todd Rokita in the 4th District and Marvin Scott in the 7th District.

Rokita, in a recent mailing said, “I’ve been told that talking about the Social Security crisis is tantamount to political suicide. But I was speaking to a group of Young Republicans whose average age was twenty and I asked them: how many of you expect to see Social Security checks at 67?” NOT A SINGLE HAND IN THE AUDIENCE WENT UP.

Sarah Palin has another new focus…in 20 of the Congressional Districts she and McCain won in 2008, the democrat won the race for the House seat. She is attempting to reverse their wins. Two of these seats are in Indiana: the 8th and the 9th districts. Linden hopes she is successful in her effort.

This brings my total list of candidates to which I have provided some modest support to seven…would like to support more but it is fairly important that I continue to buy groceries.

Outside of doing some wash on Saturday and attending church and Sunday school on Sunday, it was a very quiet weekend…I was feeling pretty weak and lackluster. Did watch some televised football on both Saturday and Sunday.

REPUBLICAN AGENDA
On September 10, Linden presented to you 10 items that he thought that the next Congress should attempt to accomplish. Now, Congressional Republicans have released a long agenda: although it contains only two of Linden’s suggestions, it marks a very great improvement over the direction of the current Congress. Following is a view of some of their ideas.

1. Honor the Constitution…particularly the 10th Amendment.
2. Make government more transparent.
3. Stop tax hikes.
4. Rein in red tape.
5. Roll back government spending.
6. Cancel TARP.
7. Reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
8. Reform budget process.
9. Repeal Obamacare.
10. Initiate small business tax deduction.
11. Stop 1099 reporting mandate.
12. Cut discretionary spending.
13. Cut the budget of Congress.
14. Hold weekly votes on spending cuts.
15. Freeze federal hiring.
16. Adopt a “sunset” program requirement.
17. Pass clean troop funding bills.
18. Improve border security.

LINDEN'S LIFE
My 18th birthday came in early January of 1948, my formal education was over for the time and although I don’t remember the exact sequence, I continued working some at an oil company and, later as a truck driver. As I had for maybe the past three years, I started seeing my Mother occasionally, as she was now in Indiana. I started getting seriously involved with a girl…my second real girlfriend. I was far too young and far too dumb for such a thing.

Four of us guys attended our breakfast meeting on Thursday…it, as usual, was enjoyable. Filled up the car with BP gas, bought some groceries, picked up a stack of junk mail and did little the rest of the day. Healthwise, felt good on Wednesday and not bad on Thursday. I did some great snacking on the bread and salami that was in the gift box that Sharon had sent to me. Good!!!

A FEARSOME FALL

A FEARSOME FALL
With Strongarm Spring with its blatant buying of legislative votes to further the descent of the U.S. into third world status, with Recovery Summer now behind us with its record of failure, it is now time to look forward to a Fearsome Fall and the possible harm it may hold for taxpayers.

First, Linden should mention the absolute disgust he has for those in Congress who would tie a homosexual related effort and an immigration related effort to into a bill concerned with the military appropriations. They are without honor. Of course, they are democrats. Every bill should require that any amendment be germane to the subject at hand. Something we should tell the members if sanity should return to Congress.

Regardless of which party comes out the winner in the upcoming election, we, the taxpayers, are in danger of having the democrats push through legislation that will hasten our descent into the third world group. Perhaps if enough Republicans win, particularly, Christine O’Donnell in Delaware since she can vote immediately, we can stop any new legislation before the first of the year and then start undoing the damage that has been done in the past four years. God Willing.

Thankfully, I’m feeling a bit better today (Wednesday) than I have been. Ran a few errands, including going by the church to pick up a box that UPS had dropped off for me. That wonderful Sharon had a box of foodstuffs sent to me…since I’ve already had lunch and plan on eating at church in the evening, I’ll start the sampling process on Thursday. I am so blest!

Had a good dinner at church followed by an excellent program where the head of several of the local groups that have both church and individual support spoke.

First, in regard to what is normally on Wednesday the hymn area of the posting, this is slightly different. Stift Heiligenkreuz is located probably slightly over a mile from Haus Edelweiss where I spent a wonderful and too short period three years ago. When I went to the Stift, there were no people in evidence but it was beautiful, as is that entire area. Accidentally finding this video, I wanted to share it with you.

My Tuesday was pretty quiet. Dan came by to check on me about mid-morning and we had a good visit. Shortly after noon, I returned the heart monitor via the UPS Store then, I went to the credit union and post office. Little else worthy of mention.

When five primarily democrat States drag their feet in regard to providing our servicemen with absentee ballots and the “Dept. of

The second link below touches upon why we Hoosiers should be proud of Mike Pence and the actions he takes in Congress. He is truly one of the best.

Paul took me to see my cardiologist today: I received some well-deserved pointed guidance from the doctor’s assistant regarding why I should not arbitrarily change prescribed dosages. Sounded a lot like Brian and Julie. I had an EKG, was fitted with a heart monitor, told I may need a pacemaker, and to return two weeks from Wednesday after the EKG and monitor results are analyzed.

In the evening, my church had the monthly meeting of the Camp Allendale support group. About 10 churches were represented and 103 attended. Had a fine dinner and an equally great message was presented by Fred Rodkey of Chapel Rock Christian Church.

CHRISTINE
Bless this imperfect person for restoring some faith in this imperfect old man. Having a deep love for my country, it follows that I would have a keen interest in political matters. If you are a regular reader of my presentations, you already knew that.

Linden does not trouble his mind much about things such as frequency of mention in the media outlets…if he did, he would be amazed at the coverage the Christine O’Donnell win in Delaware has brought her. From Linden’s standpoint, her win signifies a continuation of the Republican Party cleansing that needs to take place. Perhaps it will even cause Party leadership to stop their support of those who are to attuned to their personal well-being at the expense of what is good for the tax paying public.

Speaking of disgusting political hacks, we have Lisa Murkowski who is mounting a write-in campaign in Alaska, after losing her bid to remain in the Senate to Joe Miller. Is it wrong to hope that she receives not a single vote?

Friday: Attended Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Household tasks.
Saturday: Attended another MPB at Kingsway. Household tasks, fixed a salad similar to one I had in Spain. Pretty good.
Sunday: For the first time in many months did not attend any church services today. Had several phone calls and a couple of visits. Jan brought me some soup and desserts. Really good! I’m hoping the cardiologist will make things better on Monday.

Rush Limbaugh said that Christine O’Donnell had received almost one million dollars in donations in the short time since the Tuesday election. Yay! Linden is too good humored after this election to write anything critical about anybody. You may find some writing of that type in the links and you will probably enjoy taking the Heritage test.

LINDEN'S LIFE
I was 17 in January of 1947 and graduated from high school in May. Was unbelievably dumb in almost every area know to man (or woman.)

In the early summer, I quit whatever job I had at the time and my best friend and I got a piecework job cutting rubber flooring tile. This was the best paying job I ever had for a number of years. At times we would help the installers. We got laid off after a few months and we both went to work for a construction company: I was neither strong enough or motivated enough to do everything desired and was terminated. Shortly after, we were recalled to the tile cutting job. After a few months, we were fired.

So soon after the war, there were few new cars and there was a good market for used ones. I had a great 39 Chevrolet, then a 37 and 38 Chevy followed that.

Now, to Thursday: Met Bill, Chuck, and Jack for our breakfast, as usual. Later, the cardiologist office called, made an appointment for Monday. I went to two groceries and came home, tired.

AT LEAST 4 OUT OF 5
On Tuesday Linden asked his readers to protect his investments. Thank you!!! The election of Christine O’Donnell in Delaware was a biggie! We are seeing what so many of us hoped for and the long term results should be satisfying, indeed. Rino Republicans are falling by the wayside and those who remain are starting to get the message that they have an obligation to the taxpaying public that far outweighs their wishes for personal gain.

It appears that Doug Hoffman did not win the Republican primary in NY 23 but will remain on the general election ballot as a conservative. Future events will determine how that will shake out.

Linden will have backed at least four of the candidates in the upcoming November election: Sharron Angle, Michele Bachmann, Joe Miller, and Christine O’Donnell. Surely the American public will strongly support those who oppose the recent governmental failures.

Went to the cleaners and on to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy then, at home, constructed a note for my cardiologist. In the evening, I went to a “Taste of Missions” affair at church. The Sunday school classes had prepared food from each of the many countries where we have an outreach. It was good. I did not stay for the program.

ZEPHANIAH
This little book, written by another of the minor prophets about 600 years before the coming of Jesus Christ, is another writing that speaks of the coming destruction of Judah and Jerusalem.

The book closes with words indicating that good things would follow the display of God’s wrath.

Attended an early morning Republican breakfast: good food, good program. In the afternoon I actually did a little straightening up in the upstairs and sorted out some junk to get rid of.

Today marks the birthday of our 27th President, William Howard Taft. He supported the 16th Amendment to our Constitution which allowed for a federal income tax and the 17th Amendment which put into effect the direct election of Senators. At this time, Linden does not favor either Amendment.

PLEASE PROTECT LINDEN'S INVESTMENTS
It is highly unlikely that Linden will ever become well known as a financial advisor…his blunders in that area are numerous, if not well known. Luckily, the investments he is referring to in this posting are not considered to be in the financial area, although they could be.

His political investments in the current campaign era have fallen to five outstanding recipients: Sharron Angle of Nevada, Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, and Joe Miller of Alaska have already secured their places on the upcoming ballots. Today, September 14, will determine whether Doug Hoffman of New York and Christine O’Donnell of Delaware will make it five or five. It is possible that Hoffman was a 2009 recipient of Linden’s largesse.

It would have been nice if Linden were a bit more securely fixed financially, there were so many deserving candidates. No dems.

REMEMBERING
Well, the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attack on the U.S. has come and gone but the memories of that day will last some a life-time. A sad day for those who love our country.

Rubye and I had planned on being in Scotland and Ireland in Late August and early September of 2001 but she had another health relapse and we canceled our plans. I was listening to classical music on the morning of 9-11-01, both Brian and Julie called to tell me to turn on the TV: It was, I believe, the saddest day of my life. It was not sufficient comfort to know that my God will hold all of those responsible and their sympathizers to account.

Several of the links below relate to 9-11-01, all are worth watching.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Later, I dropped some info off at the church and went on to the post office. Did a load of wash in the afternoon. In the evening, watched a televised high school game between Plainfield and Roncalli. Plainfield won in a good game. Bruce Scifres, a former Plainfield student, is the Roncalli coach.
Saturday: attended a writers group meeting at 10:00 and watched the Michigan-Notre Dame game later. Michigan won. Good game.
Sunday: church, Sunday school and brunch. Watched the Colts lose to the Houston team and attended evening services at church. These evening services just resumed.
Also, made my final scholarship contribution to TCM.

9-10-10 CONGRESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Following the truly mediocre legislative record of the past four years, it is time. with great hope, to present some expectations for the next Congress to attempt to fulfill. Here are some:

No vote for any bill that has not been read and analyzed.
Members should keep primary residence in State they represent.
Members should develop an approach to limiting terms.
Reduce amount available for white house discretionary spending.
Repeal current healthcare bill, start over in small steps.
Limit bill size to well under 1,000 pages.
Recover unspent TARP, Stimulus and the like monies.
Reduce number and compensation of federal employees.
Repeal the bill that does away with incandescent light bulbs.
Extend the Bush tax cuts.

INDIANA'S PELOSI
Linden has been a supporter of Council For Citizens Against Government Waste for probably at least twenty years and he looks forward to receiving their annual Congressional Ratings. Tuesday he received their rating for 2009. They had scored 120 votes to determine, on a range from zero to 100, whether each member of Congress had the best interest of the taxpayer at heart.

Not surprisingly, no currently serving House Republican scored even close to as low as zero. Disgustingly, our Indiana 7th District democrat candidate, Andre Carson, joined Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, John Murtha, Henry Waxman and ONE HUNDRED other democrats in insulting the American taxpayer by scoring ZERO in this rating.

Marvin Scott is the opponent of Andre Carson in the upcoming election. Linden has known Marvin for some time and is happy to unhesitatingly endorse him as a candidate.

Workers removed the large evergreen tree near the foundation of my abode: they were gone by about 7:45. I went to a farmers market to get some green beans I need as I try to duplicate a salad I had in Spain. Also bought some corn and a very small watermelon at the market. When I arrived back home, someone had left a sack of tomatoes hanging on the door. I am blest. In the evening, I had dinner and attended a program at church.

HABAKKUK
This little book, written about 600 years before the coming of Jesus Christ, is another of those where a prophet and God discuss the coming destruction of the Jewish nation.

Habakkuk is puzzled as to why the wicked Babylonians will be used to destroy the somewhat less evil Israelites. God explains and Habakkuk understands. The book closes with a prayer by Habakkuk.

CONGRESS AND THE TEA PARTIES
Few can doubt the effect the Tea Party movement has or will have on the upcoming November election. If memory serves Linden as it should, in the election two years ago there were 39 democrats in 19 different States who were unopposed as they sought a seat in Congress. This, in Linden’s opinion, represented a massive failure on the part of the Republican party. Regardless of the polls, always give the voter a choice.

Now, in 2010, it is a different story. Thanks to the Tea Parties and a rejuvenated Republican party, there appears to be no uncontested races for a seat in Congress. ZERO! Granted, in two or three races in California, Florida, and Massachusetts, the newcomer may be associated with a party other that the Republicans. Still a great and marvelous departure from the scene two years ago. Hope does spring eternal.

RINO RELATED
Republicans In Name Only are often only slightly better than full fledged democrats. Now, slightly better is superior to being equal but it is not what we should most desire if we truly love our country. No, we should support Conservative Republicans…there are no conservative democrats.

The race for the Senate seat in Delaware is one where weak kneed pundits and the often equally weak Republican leadership is pushing for the election of a RINO to fill that seat. Christine O’Donnell is the Conservative in this race and she is being slammed by some of those mentioned above.

If you check below, you will see that she is one of those that Linden has deemed to be worthy of his (unfortunately limited)
financial support. Mark Levin agrees with Linden.

Linden has already mentioned the Mark Levin presentation. Haley Barbour is the centerpiece of the “required listening” piece below that: it comes in multiple parts so, you can watch one part at a time.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00, two of those involved in the ministry in Poland spoke. Five of the family members arrived at the Mission House last night. Went to the funeral for Alice (Hortense) Andrews in the afternoon…she was a dear lady. I saw many friends that I rarely see anymore while at the funeral.
Saturday: Men’s Breakfast at Kingsway at 7:30…Lloyd gave me a nice leather jacket. Picked up some cleaning, went to the grocery and post office. Brenda Lawson called to visit in the afternoon and Kent and Donna came by for a short visit in the evening.
Sunday: Church and Sunday school. By the time Sunday school was over I wasn’t feeling well so didn’t go to brunch. Went home, slept about three hours and felt better.

MAKING LISTS

MAKING LISTS
Sure, Linden is haphazard, at best. He thinks that he leads a busy life and just can’t get it all done. Perhaps he needs to hone his list making skills. The Republicans, as a party, are not much better: they need to notify the voting public of exactly what is, to them, the most important five or six initiatives they will pursue if they win control of either legislative branch.

The democrats appear to be much better at list making, if nothing else. Every thinking person in this country should know that they fully intend to raise your cost of living, raise your taxes, curtail your freedoms, support law breaking illegal immigration, enforce mandatory unionization, oppress Christianity, support waste of taxpayer money, and weaken our national defense. They are not real good at rational thinking but they sure can make lists.

Last Monday, Linden made his initial list making suggestion. He expects to, starting next week, make the development of this list an ongoing part of this blog effort.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Some months ago I started my Friday music links relating to a year of my life. Last week I was up to 1946 but I neglected to write a thing about my life at that time. So, I’m redoing it this week with a different song.

I was 16 in January of 1946 and started my senior year in high school in the fall. Not exactly sure when it started but I had a girl friend that I liked a lot but we broke up after school started because we went to different high schools. She lived on the near North side of Indianapolis and I lived on the far South side. I think this is the year that I bought my first car: it was a 1933 Plymouth and was not very dependable. I didn’t get a drivers license for several years.
I worked at a grocery store and at a bottling company within that summer and about the time school started I got a job as a night janitor at a department store. Naturally that knocked out any kind of a social life in my senior year. I don’t remember driving to downtown Indianapolis for my night work but I surely remember the long walk home, late at night, from the end of the bus line. I did barely manage to graduate with my class but had absolutely no future plans.

Paul was missing from our Thursday morning breakfast meeting but the other four of us made it. Enjoyable time! Went to the post office and got some BP gasoline. Watched a televised Colts game while listening to an Indiana University football game in the evening.

HOPE RENEWED AND CHANGE
No, this posting has nothing at all to do with the recently televised Obama speech. It was not generally well received, certainly not by Linden. This posting has more to do with the “Hope For Tuesday” posting brought you a couple of days ago.

In this regard, we will have a new Alaskan Senator and the hope is strong that it will be Joe Miller. Linden sent him a small campaign contribution today and his contact info will be listed below with the list of other contributions. Just maybe this election will bring about a sorely needed change of attitude among many of those who are “serving” in Congress.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Talked to both Brian and Julie…no word yet on my inquiry to the office of my cardiologist. Sent my latest book writing effort files to the printer. Went to the post office, bank, cleaners, and credit union. Wednesday night dinners and programs have resumed at church: I had a good meal and the missions related program was quite good.

NAHUM
This little book was written about 630 years before the arrival of Jesus Christ on earth and roughly 20 years before the complete destruction of Nineveh.

The focus of the book is on the coming destruction of Nineveh and the goodness of God. The destruction occurred as predicted, even to the extent of the walls being breached by water.

The destruction of this large city was so complete that a couple of centuries later there was no evidence that it ever existed. Luckily, about 1820 it was rediscovered and meaningful excavation followed.

LINDEN'S LIFE
I got a haircut and picked up my mail at the post office. Then, called the nurse at the cardiologist office and left her a message: Brian called later to ensure that I had made that call. Julie called later and I also exchanged a few words with Jade. Love to hear from my kids.

I first became aware of the words to the hymn linked above a few years ago as I was reviewing a “memories” folder that had belonged to the mother of a friend of mine. The words were printed on a yellowed old newspaper clipping. I liked the words so much that I used most of the words of that poem to compose a song and later found that another composer had already put this song together. Think he did better than me! I discarded my effort.
