A BUDGET CONSTRUCTION REVIEW:

Regardless of income, a budget should not be terribly difficult to construct. This thought has never occurred to our White House or the leaders of the Senate. Would it be superfluous to say that I’m talking about democrats. First, you make a realistic judgment of income and base your spending on that judgment. It is nuts for the two bodies mentioned to even consider a ten year budget when they are incapable of constructing one for only a year. The high point of Friday was the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Saturday Brian told me that Sheri wanted to know when I had gotten the Federal Penitentiary shirt he was wearing…it was a while back. In the evening, Kent and Donna picked me up and we went to the Chamber of Commerce dinner and auction. I’m still full as I write this. At church Sunday, Steven continued his sermon series regarding the book of Job and John led our Sunday school class through chapter six of Judges. I watched I.U. win a basketball game.

A DEBATE REVIEW:

After I returned home from church on Wednesday night, I, thanks to Brian supplying me with satellite reception, watched the presidential debate. It was the first one of the series that I had watched.

Although I think  that each of the four candidates would be decidedly better that the current White House occupant, I received no earth shattering revelations and my rating of the candidates remains unchanged: Santorum, Gingrich, Romney and Paul. It will be interesting to see what the next primaries show us.

We had our usual breakfast at 8:00 with four of us present…Bill was absent. These breakfasts are a favorite way for me to begin a day. Shortly after I returned home, I had a long nap in my recliner…I had slept really poorly last night and had bad dreams. Did a little writing later in the day.

DIFFERING VISIONS:

It seems reasonable to Linden to have a vision for America that includes a country that is strong and respected, where lack of employment opportunity is a thing of the past, where religion is respected and lack of religion is not hounded, where the truly needy are maintained but not at the level of those who are employed, where most oldsters live with a sense of some security, and where news and opinion are differentiated in the media. I suppose it would not be wrong to hope for sleazy conduct being recognized and not  considered to be acceptable. The link below addresses a different view.

On Wednesday I again had biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A. Jack, Helen, Chris (the owner) and his youngest came in later and joined me. Went from there to the grocery and the post office. WHAT ABOUT NOW?

Linden readily admits that he has not performed an in-depth study of the most recent Obama “budget”. Remembering that the one constructed by Obama last year was not even good enough for our dysfunctional Senate, Linden  thought, “what’s the use”.  One area supposedly in the document claims that it will save four trillion dollars over the course of ten years. Since we surely will not be cursed with this “leadership” for even four more years, why should we be overly excited over future years over which he will have no control? He has shown an amazing ability to set new records in creating record setting deficits but the question we should ask is: “in regard to saving money, how about starting now”?  Because I liked the video link below so well, it is being offered again.

Just curious. It seems that in recent years my own vacation plans have failed to materialize when they were made at all. So, most of my vacations have been vicarious in nature. I have, perhaps because of their frequency, became an admirer of the ability of Michelle Obama’s to both plan vacations and actually take them. I suppose having a large staff could help a little. It is possible that Linden will celebrate some matters of historic significance but, it is unlikely that he will ever get carried away with a month not devoted to anything in particular. Friday brought the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 8:00. Then, went to the store, post office, and by the church, had a nap and wrote a bit. In the evening, I went to my Sunday school class party. Good food and fellowship. I played some euchre. Saturday, I was at Kingsway for their men’s meeting at 7:30, to a writers group meeting at 10:00 and visited a bit with the family staying in the Mission House in the afternoon.

On Sunday the Steve White sermon was based on the book of Job and John Lee led the Sunday school class in a study of the book of Judges. I had brunch with friends, then back home. Watched I.U. lose a not very well played basketball game to Iowa.

THE OBAMA “BUDGET” AGAIN

Linden believes that it may well be impossible for most people to visualize a trillion and a billion is only a teeny bit easier…it makes it no easier to think of multiplying 1,000 by 1,000 to get a million, multiplying the product by 1,000 to get a billion and then multiplying that product by 1,000 to arrive at a trillion. So much for math!

To more easily understand the Obama approach to budgeting, think of a family with an annual income of $44,000.00 who carefully map out a plan to spend $76,000.00 and borrow the $32,000.00 necessary to meet their budget. They pledge that they, their children, their grandchildren, and then their grandchildren’s grandchildren will repay the resultant debt. The lenders are aghast at the plan…but loan the money.

In year two the same thing happens, again in year three, and once again in year four. That, friends, is the Obama budget. Some people and groups of people are crazy! Some will even vote to re-elect this disaster for America.

On Thursday I met with the guys for breakfast at 8:00. Paul was back from Florida and it was good to see him…they returned early because of concerns about Judy’s mother. After breakfast, I went to the grocery and on to the post office. At home, just got in the door in time to answer the phone and Paul came with some tomatoes for me at that time. Later, talked to grandson, Jake, who is now living in California…he was preparing to go to one of his college classes. Little activity the rest of the day.

In 2012, there is the possibility of replacing 21 democrats, 2 independents (one of which is really, really bad), and 10 Republicans. On Wednesday I filled up my gas tank because the price was only about $1.40 more per gallon than it was when the President assumed office. Then, I went to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy. Jack and Helen arrived shortly after I did and we had a good visit. My mail was all trash. In the evening, I had dinner and attended the program at church. I got back home in time to see the last part of the I.U. win over Northwestern.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BE FORCED TO BUY FOR ME?

Sorry, Linden has no solid answer for this worthwhile question at this time. He can think of nothing that he needs or really wants. Of course, his car is 13 years old…but it still runs fine, he just bought a new pair of shoes, he might enjoy having just the right kind of short wave radio, and he does love chocolates and sweets in general. But, I guess he will remain satisfied as is. However, if our lackluster President has the power to force Christians or taxpayers through their insurance companies to purchase contraceptives for those in desperate need and those not in need at all, then it seems to be only fair that you be forced to buy something for Linden. I understand that this LP is big on fairness! I guess just send a couple of boxes of chocolates to me each month…you are getting off cheap! I give you links to two good pieces.

Attended the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00 and a memorial service at church later in the day on Friday. Did a couple of loads of wash and met the fellow who, with his family, will be moving into the Mission House. Saturday brought car doors frozen shut and not a lot else of consequence. Sunday was church, Tim preached on John 15, and in Sunday school, John continued with the study of Judges. Had brunch with friends. Later, had a nice visit with Brian. I am surely enjoying the satellite TV he got me: this week I watched two good movies, some basketball and some boxing.

A TICKET/VIRUS SCAM:

Thursday evening I received a valid appearing message from what appeared to be American Airlines: it showed the flight and ticket number as well as the destination. I found a telephone number for American Airlines and was told that they were receiving a large numbers of such inquiries. Said not to open the attachment since it contained a virus. Just delete the message.

Had breakfast with my Thursday group at 8:00 and was at church at 11:30 for a Golden Glows pitch-in (I took cream puffs) and program. About 2:00, Cheryl dropped by for a nice visit as she was on one of her infrequent visits to Plainfield. Later, Julie called and we got caught up. Brian had left me a message earlier in the day. Any time I hear from both kids is a good day.

NUMBER EMPLOYED:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics in Linden’s opinion provides us with a ton of totally worthless numbers. As an example, they just quit counting some of the millions of unemployed who “drop out of the labor force.” Using that approach you can easily show, if you choose, a dropping percentage of those considered to be unemployed while the actual number of unemployed is rising. Perhaps it would be more meaningful to look more closely at the total who are actually employed. We know that U.S. population continues to rise so it follows that the total who are employed must rise to keep even with the unemployed percentage. After years of rising employed during the Bush years, it leveled off at roughly 138 million for the 06-08 years. Upon the election of President Obama it immediately went into freefall being about 131 million in March of 2011. It, hopefully, bottomed at about 129 million in February of 2010. Remember, the total must continually rise to account for increased population. The Obama years have been a disaster…are you partially responsible?

After a largely sleepless night, I remained in bed until 8:00. Shortly after, I was enjoying biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A. Then, on to a grocery and the post office. Read the mail, did a bit of writing, and exchanged notes with Julie. In the evening, dinner and program attendance at church.

ONE GOOD LINK:

The title of this writing is simply to take Linden’s mind off of the first two links which serve as reminders of two levels of malfunctioning government. The first link, in Linden’s opinion, is just another illustration of President Obama’s complete disregard of our Constitution. The second link illustrates the failure of the court system to adequately address election law. Aaargh! The good link illustrates in a cute manner a situation which should be much on the mind of every American who is not facing death in the near future.

MIKE PENCE:

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is widely regarded as the best Governor of any State within these United States. That view is certainly shared by those who met with Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, at The Coachman restaurant in Plainfield at 2:00 Monday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Mike and about 100 of his supporters from throughout the State had filed 13,000 signed petitions to cause him to be the first official candidate for Governor to succeed Daniels.

Mike and Karen were warmly greeted by the roughly 50 attendees of this first actual campaign event since becoming a validated candidate. Each of them shared a few words with us and answered several questions. He is very impressive and will undoubtedly continue and expand upon the conservative stance that has been nicely illustrated by Governor Daniels. We are blest to have Mike Pence as our candidate for Governor.

Due to the importance of welcoming Mike and Karen Pence to Hendricks County, Linden will refuse to feel even a small amount of guilt for his pitiful performance in the accomplishments arena this day. He did manage to do a small amount of writing.

Linden had originally intended to post a commentary entitled, “Can a Christian be a democrat?” but decided to only plant the thought in your mind and allow you to consider it without further input at this time. Some of the news reports indicate that Christians are abandoning Obama by the boatload.

No, instead of asking such a question, Linden will only call to your attention the fact that Obama has taken numerous actions that are anti Christian also, he has a record of being anti military. He is now attempting to cause you to forget his record and begin to paint a new picture. He knows that truly image is everything in the political realm.

OTHER STUFF:

If time management has ever been one of my strong points, that time is long past. I am so slow that I feel almost entirely non-productive. Steve continued leading the study of Ecclesiastes at the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday: as usual we were treated to good food before the study. Later, I did a load of wash and some writing. On Saturday I attended the men’s meeting at Chapel Rock. Another good breakfast and Fred spoke on making choices. Sunday brought church services with Steve presenting Matthew 8:5-13 and John began the study of Judges in our Sunday school class. Then, I joined friends for brunch before returning home. In the evening, I watched the Super Bowl with the McPhails…both the game and the snacks Donna fixed were super.
