ACCUMULATING DEBT

Practically every mature adult knows that it is not a good idea to continue to accumulate debt without having a plan to retire the debt. In fact, it is a very bad idea. Some that we would classify as children also this to be true.

On Thursday, while popping in and out of the car and house, I was, as usual, listening to the radio. Mark Steyn was filling in for Rush on the Rush Limbaugh radio show. He mentioned, more than once, that our country was going further into debt at the rate of one hundred eighty million dollars per hour. That equals more than four billion dollars per day! This should scare you.

The links that are offered for your use today detail two areas that are ripe for serious attention: retention of government employees and the Department of Energy. Well written…read them.

LINDEN’S LIFE

On Thursday, I could hardly believe that I was seeing sunshine as I drove to my breakfast meeting with Bill, Chuck, and Paul. Of course, it did rain later in the day. I went by the church and post office and talked politics with Kent for a bit. Also, did three loads of wash. The song link today is about tequila…I rarely think of that without thinking of Brian (his birthday is Friday and he is, I believe, the best son in the world) and a much, much earlier episode in the Brownsville, Texas - Matamoros, Mexico area.

TRUMPED!

Starting several years ago with the Hillary Clinton campaign for the Presidency there have been endless stories about the lack of belief that Obama was born where he claimed. Now, perhaps the matter is settled. Unless there is evidence that the certificate that Obama apparently finally produced is a forgery.

More than any other person, Donald Trump is responsible for this approach to honesty evidenced, at long last, by the President. It is said that Obama spent a very large sum of money to derail other attempts to discover a valid birth certificate…the publicity that Trump generated prodded him to act as he should have long ago. Why has the President been so reluctant to produce several records that have been requested? Probably no person, including Obama, knows the answer.

During the news presentation, the President said that he needed to get on to more important things. Linden believes that Rush Limbaugh later said that Obama was going to Chicago for an Oprah Winfrey show appearance! This is important? Please do not consider this writing to be an endorsement of Trump for President.

BIBLE RELATED POSTINGS REVIEW

At the start of 2009, Linden decided to follow one of the read the Bible in a year approaches and completed the effort at year-end. So, a report of the progress was posted five days a week regarding that effort.

Starting in January of 2010, he adopted a different approach: Each Wednesday the primary focus would be on a specific Bible book. He started with Genesis and finished with Revelation on 4-20-11. Starting next week, he will probably focus on the New Testament for a time.

INDIANA POLITICS

Well, it’s that time again! Time for cities and towns in Indiana to elect their future leaders. Linden’s primary interest in this area is the Plainfield election where stellar incumbents Kent McPhail and Bill Kirchoff have what seems to be extremely well financed opponents. These two, McPhail and Kirchoff deserve much of the credit for making Plainfield such a wonderful place to live.

As mentioned below, Monday was the legislative breakfast in Danville. Three State Representatives and one State Senator gave their reports concerned with various legislative actions. The current session is supposed to end on April 29. The decision by almost all of the democrat Representatives to visit Illinois instead of doing their job makes it difficult to finish all of the business. Congressman Todd Rokita gave his usual high quality view on what is happening in our nation’s capital.

Attended the legislative breakfast in Danville at 7:00. Four Indiana legislators and our congressman, Todd Rokita, were the speakers. From the audience, I said a few words, mostly about baseline budgeting being undesirable. Later, went to post office, saw Kent at the Chamber of Commerce for a while, and got a haircut. In the late afternoon, I had a very pleasant visit with our minister of many years ago, Warren Robbins.

ANZAC DAY + A QUESTIONAIRE

Australia and New Zealand have been among the strongest supporters of the U.S. for years: ANZAC Day (April 25) commemorates the actions of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps in the battle of Gallipoli in World War I. It has since been broadened to honor those who have served and died. The song “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” was one of our links in 2010: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kki1kpFCBh0 Read the comments as the song is playing.
--
The following is a condensed version of an E-mail that Jim sent to me: you can see the entire contents if you inquire on “if any other of our presidents.” The answer Linden would give appears in caps after each question.

If any other of our presidents had doubled the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had criticized a state law that he admitted he never even read, would you think that he is just an ignorant hot head? YES

If any other of our presidents joined the country of Mexico and sued a state in the United States to force that state to continue to allow illegal immigration,
would you question his patriotism and wonder who's side he was on? YES

If any other of our presidents had used a forged document as the basis of the moratorium that would render 87000 American workers unemployed would you support him? NO

If any other of our presidents had been the first President to need a Teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes? YES

If any other of our presidents had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take his First Lady to a play in NYC, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had reduced your retirement plan holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought it a proud moment for America ? NO

If any other of our presidents had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved? NO

If any other of our presidents would have flown all the way to Denmark to make a five minute speech about how the Olympics would benefit him walking out his front door in his home town, would you not have thought he was a self important, conceited, egotistical jerk. YES

If any other of our presidents had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite? YES

If any other of our presidents' administrations had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11? YES

If any other of our presidents had created the position of 32 Czars who report directly to him, bypassing the House and Senate on much of what is happening in America , would you have ever approved. NO

If any other of our presidents had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved? NO

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Went to the post office and credit union then spent the rest of the day doing paperwork and reviewing all this info I have about going to Ireland.

Saturday: Breakfast in Indianapolis with my niece, Peggy. Nice visit. Paul brought by a news article I was interested in.

Sunday: Church and Sunday school. Brian called right after I got back home. Then, I went to Sam and Shirley’s for our Easter buffet at what used to be the Officers Club at Ft. Harrison. Their daughter, Terri, her children, Dane and Kelsey, and Dane’s wife, Brittany met us there. It was, as usual, just great! Maybe the best of the Thanksgiving and Easter treats I’ve enjoyed with them for about the last eight years.

WISHFUL THINKING

Linden is the kind of guy who thinks that a hundred dollars is a significant amount of money. He can, some days, imagine what one million is. On no days does he grasp one billion (one thousand million,) and he will never be able to grasp exactly what is one trillion (one thousand billion.) If one entity is in the hole fourteen trillion dollars, as our country is, there is no way that Linden will ever understand what his share of this mismanagement is. He knows it is more than one hundred dollars. Sometimes he wishes he were more intelligent.

Linden was favorably impressed with the budget deficit article which is linked immediately below. Hope you have time to read it.

WHAT I THINK I HEARD

As is not unusual, Linden was otherwise occupied as he listened to Rush Limbaugh on Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, the exact quote was not written down and there has been no time available to check other sources.

What Linden believes he heard that is if all wages of all taxpayers were confiscated, the federal budget would still be out of balance by roughly 800 billion (800,000 million) dollars. If this is what was said and if it is true, it can only mean that spending MUST be drastically reduced. No responsible politician could argue the point.

You must be interested in this potential situation…so, investigate.

BALANCING THE BUDGET

Since Linden detected nothing worth considering in the various write-ups regarding the lackluster message recently delivered by our President, he (Linden) will present another approach. Probably the President and those who pay no taxes would support this approach…Linden DOES NOT.

A recently read graph showed federal expenditures to be roughly 3.824 trillion dollars of which 1.65 trillion will be borrowed. Using his often correct calculator, Linden determined that if all federal income (primarily taxes of some sort or another) was multiplied by 1.759, the income would equal the expenditures.

Just think, if you paid $1,000 in taxes, your new bill would be $1759 and upward at the same percentage if you paid more. The benefit would be that no spending would be reduced. A liberal dream come true!

BOOK SEARCH REVIEW

I replaced my normal Thursday political educational effort with the following, probably more important, subject.

Not long ago I asked (for my daughter, Julie) if anyone remembered a book about a stuffed rabbit or bear that had lost it’s button eye, was thrown into a closet and later returned to good shape. Here are the three responses that resulted in her buying the books…she still isn’t sure that any one of them is what she thinks she remembers.

From Darla Pezzatta, a friend of my friend, Sharon Herbitter. They live in Alabama: “Dust Bunnies and the rescue of Button the Bear.” Being in a magnanimous mood, I forgave Darla for referring to me as “Linda” in a Facebook entry.

From Becky Cadwell, one of Barb Smith’s Preschool Staff at Plainfield Christian church: “Land Of The Lost Buttons.”

Sharon then added: “Boris The Lopsided Bear.”

Thanks to all involved in thinking about it.

Wednesday was a very full day and I failed miserably to get everything done. I did a load of wash then headed for my eye specialist north of Indianapolis. Was there over three hours and came out with dilated eyes. Don’t like to drive when my vision is even less reliable than usual. Although no new bad news, I didn’t like the doctor telling me that there is about a 50% chance that my good eye will deteriorate. In the evening, I had dinner at church but did not stay for the program.

Jude, like James, was a brother of Jesus. He wrote this short letter, to some of the churches in about A. D. 67. The focus was on false teachers, perhaps the same as the ones Peter referred to.

Jude spared no word of condemnation for these false teachers while encouraging true believers and closing the letter with strong words of belief.

BUDGET OPINIONS

Both the print and broadcast media have presented numerous opinions regarding the winners, losers and ramifications of the recently reached budget agreement. These opinions vary widely.

Linden’s opinion is that ANY reduction in federal spending is a win for the taxpayer. In his long life, he has rarely, if ever before, heard a report of an actual reduction in federal spending. Most of the reports of this type celebrate a reduction in anticipated spending.

The democrats had a big stick: they were willing to shut down the government and not pay our military in order to continue their most cherished spending. The reduction is a work in progress.

DON’T DISPARAGE PROGRESS

Unless Linden is wrong (of course, that is unlikely) every man, woman, and child in our country is better off to the tune of about $125 each because of the budget cutting effort of the Republican House of Representatives. Considering that this is borrowed money, the savings is actually much larger than that.

A few of the lamestream media articles have attempted to push the notion that Obama was the leader in this worthwhile effort. Don’t believe it. In fact, consider boycotting those who advertise in these products of the agents of deceit.

While thinking of things that look more positive than they did only a short time ago, don’t forget the election of a Supreme Court Judge in Wisconsin…it looks like it could be another win for the forces of good.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Later, I went to two stores, the post office, and on to the library to try to find a book that Julie is wanting.

Saturday: It was a nasty, rainy morning so I did very little until I went to a very nice wedding at 4:30…then, went on to the well done reception. Enjoyed all of it…got home about dark.

Sunday: Church, Sunday school, visited with friends over coffee before coming home. Was modestly busy doing things of little consequence until time for evening church services. Listened to some good Celtic and German music.

THEFT OF AN ELECTION?

THEFT OF AN ELECTION?

As Linden started drafting this post, it was not yet determined who was the real winner in the race for the contested Wisconsin Supreme Court seat. The most recent report showed the liberal winning by 204 votes out of over 1,400,000 cast.

Because of what is said to be extremely lax election laws, the suspicion of stolen elections will always be present. It is said that in previous elections there have been instances of thousands more votes being counted than were recorded, problems with the veracity of absentee ballots and felons both voting and working at the polls.

Major process problems seem to center on the ability to both register and vote on the same day and there being no identification requirement. The previous democrat Governor apparently vetoed an identification requirement three times. That is asking for there to be election theft.

At a later time in the post preparation process, it was reported that the possibility exists that the Republican won. Hope so.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Thursday, I met Bill and Chuck for breakfast then went to the post office, credit union, church and a barn that Joyce wanted me to check out. Brian called from the airport as he was on the way home. It was great to see him Wednesday. Julie called to tell me that she was considering books to read to Jade. I didn’t know the name of the one she was trying to remember. It is about a stuffed rabbit or bear that is in bad repair, had a missing button eye, etc. It was thrown into the back of a closet, was later repaired and all was well. In the evening, I went to Chick-fil-A…they were hosting a fundraiser for a group that is focused on autism. I had a very good conversation with the leader of the group.

ARE THE FORCES OF EVIL WINNING?

The Tuesday election of the Supreme Court Judge in Wisconsin is almost certainly going to some sort of contested conclusion: the liberal who apparently opposes the efforts of Governor Scott Walker to rein in spending had a very thin lead the last time Linden checked. This in spite of the dereliction of duty displayed by the democrat legislators and the particularly disgusting actions of the protesters.

Additionally, at the national level, it seems almost certain that there will be a shut-down of the government. The democrats and their media cohorts will blame the Republicans in spite of the fact that the democrats, who were in complete control, never bothered to actually craft a budget for the current year.

Also, of some concern, is the analysis of a return to sanity in the 2012 election by some of the well known pundits. The link to the below article addresses this concern.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Brian picked me up and we had lunch at the Irish pub in the Metropolis mall. Very good food but not as good as our visit. Later, I mailed my state and federal tax forms. Had a big dinner at church…too big, considering that I had also eaten more than usual at lunch. So, I brought some of the food home and did not stay for the program.

III JOHN + JUSTIN WHITE

This very short personal letter from John to his friend, Gaius, addresses a problem within the church. The location of the church is not given. It seems that Diotrephes, another church leader, was failing to adequately receive some of the leaders who had apparently been trained by John.

Steve White has been an inspirational Senior Minister at Plainfield Christian Church for a bit over twenty years. About ten years ago, his son, Justin, joined him as an Associate Minister. Justin is so good that you can hardly tell him from his Dad. Linden learned today that Justin will be departing PCC to assume the position of Senior Minister at First Christian Church in Columbus, Indiana. Our loss is their gain. Good wishes will go with Justin, his wife, Michelle and their two young sons.

Went to a store, the post office, and by to talk to Kent regarding the upcoming Town election. Sure hope he is re-elected. Drove down a few country roads looking for a barn Joyce could use for her poetry. In the evening, I went to a candidates presentation at Hummel Park.

AN IMPORTANT ELECTION TODAY

AN IMPORTANT ELECTION TODAY

Several states, primarily Wisconsin but including Indiana, Ohio, New Jersey and probably others, have been involved in political battles to reduce costs with unions of various stripes. Unions are not necessary, lowering the cost of government is.

The election of a Supreme Court judge in Wisconsin today is an important test of whether the real middle class will go to the polls and support the recent actions of Governor Scott Walker. We can only hope and pray that his efforts to reduce the cost of government will prevail. The three links below address that subject.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Driving in heavy rain, I picked up some donuts and drove to Voter Registration in Danville where, once again, I was the first to vote in Hendricks County. Had a nice visit while I was there. Sam drove to Plainfield from Indianapolis and we had a bunch of pizza for lunch. Then, we returned to my place and he led me through the preparation of my taxes. We have been doing that for years. I had messages from Brian and Julie as well as some others.

LeAnn Rimes, with her beautiful voice, sang the national anthem at the start of the NCAA championship game. Unfortunately, from my standpoint, she butchered some of the individual words of the song. It should be delivered as if it were a prayer! Butler played one of those games that should not happen to a team…it seemed that not one of their players played up to their potential. So they, with lots to be proud of, finished second in tournament play.

BANKRUPTCY

BANKRUPTCY

Having at one terrible time faced the possibility of declaring personal bankruptcy, Linden has more than a little knowledge of the budgetary sacrifices that must be made to overcome this failure to properly manage money. It boggles the mind to envision the ill effects on the citizenry if, through political negligence, a state or our nation should face that situation. The democrats in Congress and in some states seem inclined to lead us toward bankruptcy.

A recent letter from Citizens Against Government Waste listed seven different examples of poor legislative leadership. They are:

15 different agencies overseeing food-safety laws;
20 separate programs to help the homeless;
80 programs for economic development;
82 teacher programs to improve teacher quality;
80 programs to help the disadvantaged with transportation;
47 programs for job training and employment; and,
56 programs in 20 agencies promoting financial literacy.

The links below provide a wonderful written example of the bad money management situation, two spoofs of President Obama, and a country music song.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00: the cooks played an April Fool’s joke on us…they announced that instead of our usual good breakfast we would just have toast and cereal. I had already put bread in the toaster when they brought out biscuits and gravy. The rest of my day was mostly unproductive

Saturday: Joyce Brinkman, former Indiana State Treasurer and former Indiana Poet Laureate, and I drove all over Hendricks county looking for just the right barn to paint a poem on. We had a very good lunch at The Bread Basket Café and Bakery in Coatesville. In the evening, I watched Butler win their game and advance to the NCAA finals. The girl who sang the national anthem did well until near the end and then she boogered it up. At least she was light years better than the disastrous performance by the singer at the Super Bowl. Brian called to review the game with me.

Sunday: church, Sunday school, and brunch with friends. Had a long talk with Brian and, in the evening, attended church.

PROTECTING THE MIDDLE CLASS?

PROTECTING THE MIDDLE CLASS?

In this posting, Linden will be relying a bit on his memory and at least as much on his math skill in making rough computations. In recent weeks there has been much publicity given democrats who abandoned their elected responsibilities to vacation in adjacent states. They said that they were doing this for the middle class.
Actually they were doing it for those union members who just happen to see many of their dues dollars diverted to support of the democrat party. With the work force consisting of roughly seven times as many non-union members as of those who are union members, representing the middle class would actually be showing support for those who are not union members.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Breakfast with Bill and Chuck. Went by the church, the post office and a nursing home. Later in the day, had a nice phone call from Julie…she was somewhere north of Indianapolis and had met with a couple I had met at one (or more) of her conventions. Later, I made an Ireland related inquiry, talked books with Joseph Allen, and had a long phone visit with Brian.
