HOPE FOR TUESDAY
I understand that they start counting the absentee ballots in Alaska on Tuesday…I surely hope that Joe Miller is able to maintain his lead in the Senatorial race there.

It appears that we will see more changes than normal in this election cycle…sure hope so. There appears to be hope that the Conservative movement will be more prominent this year than in the past. We better hope so!

GOOD QUESTIONS
The links below each ask or imply the asking of a question that not only needs to be asked but needs to be answered as well. Perhaps Linden will start today what will be a series of questions to ask each member of Congress after our next election.

Question 1: Considering the tremendous waste of taxpayer money by the current occupants of the White House, why not drastically reduce the amount of discretionary spending money available to the occupants?

LINDEN'S LIFE
Friday brought Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00 followed by a long nap. Attended to some church related matters. Listened to a tape I hadn’t heard before of Rubye conducting a sales seminar, probably before I first met her. It was good to hear her voice. Had a period where I felt pretty bad.
On Saturday I dropped off papers to be recycled and went to the post office. Sharon sent me the last of the editing of my current book effort and we exchanged several e-mails.
Sunday brought church services and Sunday school followed by brunch with friends. Read the paper and napped off. Prepared to mail the book regarding my Spain pilgrimage to Sharon…she wants it for a friend. I hadn’t looked at it for many months so I reread it and remembered some emotional moments.
It has been a long time since my Julie Ann and I shared the same home but having just becoming aware of the song linked above, I just couldn’t resist bringing it to you.

OUR POOR CHILDREN
And their children, and their children, and their children…perhaps without end. The actions of those we have entrusted to serve in the halls of Congress, most noticeably recently but actually going back years and year, have ensured that the generations from this point on will be poorer and poorer. This must be turned around.

With our hope that the upcoming November elections can provide the start of this radical change, we within the Tea Party movement, the blogger class, the politically active, and the silent ones who are capable of caring, must apply any and all manner of pressure to effect this change. This thought is expected to be an ongoing focus of this blog.

Thursday brought our normal breakfast meeting: Paul was absent. I intended to attend a late afternoon gathering of people who worked with Brenda, who was the Secretary at the last place I worked. She has cancer. I called her and advised that I’m feeling a bit shaky today. This is nothing to be really concerned about.

The Indianapolis Star on Wednesday contained a section which listed all of the properties which may be part of a tax sale coming soon. There were roughly 7,000 of these properties in Marion county (Indianapolis.) This has to reflect a sad worsening of circumstances for the majority of these owners. Some of them undoubtedly voted for hope and change.

STAYING POSITIVE
It is difficult to stay positive if you focus on items such as those links I offer you today. The first makes a good case for why one may consider Obama to be a Muslim, the second provides horrible evidence of government waste, and the third looks at the sad subject of job creation.

However, on the brighter side, the music link provides some bright music, many of us have our Christian faith, and for those who are even a little bit like Linden, we can feel positive about the possibility that the upcoming November election will result in many changes to the truly horrible actions taken by the democrat Congress in the past four years and the equally, if not more so, horrible actions taken by our current President.

Had biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A, went by the post office and came home to do a couple of loads of wash. I looked for a link to the music I show above that had vocals. Found some yodeling type but not exactly what I was looking for. The one I brought you was the most popular anyhow. I had the vocal version on a record very many years ago.
Carolyn sent me a copy of an article which touched upon being “broken” in the Christian sense. I had told her quite some time ago that I would like to see or hear a good short definition of the term. This article didn’t provide it. If you have such a definition, I would be happy to see it. The article did mention “as is,” which may be a fitting term for me as a Christian.

MICAH
Micah was a prophet of the time of Isaiah and Hosea…roughly 700 years before the time of Jesus Christ on earth.

He speaks of and lives to see the coming destruction of, first, the Jewish Northern Kingdom. He also speaks of the better times that will follow sometime after the destruction.

Micah gives probably the best prediction of the coming birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.

LINDEN INTENDED TO WRITE THESE
Luckily, he never addressed any one of the three linked subjects. All three are masterfully presented in a manner which Linden could never approach. All three needed to be written.

The first, which is addressed to the media, states forcefully that we do not believe Obama or the media that covers for him. The second touches upon the growing admiration for George Bush, and the rather long third article is a study of belief systems. All three are great!

OBAMA: GAINING ON A GOAL (A REPEAT)

OBAMA: GAINING ON A GOAL...A REPEAT POSTING
Linden stumbled upon this posting from two days less than a year ago and thought it worth repeating…links are new.
Linden has never understood what it is that drives some people to desire something that seems to make no sense at all. Why would one want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane? Why would a middle-aged person want to look like a teenager? Why would one want to go to either of the polar regions? Makes no sense to Linden.

On more than one occasion, President Obama has at least intimated that he would like to be the modern day FDR. Linden would judge such a thought to be an indication of being simple minded or, at best, not being very good at history. But, President Obama is gaining on seeing this thought become reality.

In the first eight years of his Presidency, Roosevelt provided our country with an average unemployment rate of eighteen point six percent! His low point in this eight year span was fourteen point three percent! Perhaps this is the goal that President Obama has set for himself. It may yet be attainable—as it already is in some sections of our country. As Rush Limbaugh says, “I hope he fails.”

Friday brought the usual Men’s Prayer Breakfast and I took Chris, our church intern, to lunch.
On Saturday, the usual men’s meeting at Kingsway was canceled. The Avon Writers Group met at 10:00. In the evening I watched a movie that is the only one I remember as being one that my Dad attended with me. Enjoyed the movie and the memory.
Sunday brought church and Sunday school but didn’t go to brunch:
I had slept really poorly Thursday and Friday nights and did pretty well Saturday night. Still was so tired that I took a two hour nap immediately after Sunday school. Went to a dandy church picnic in the evening held in the shady drove on the North property. A very short walk for me.

INDECISION (DITHERING)
On Thursday, as Linden prepared to formulate his Friday posting, he was almost Obamalike in his inability to focus on the matter at hand. Considering his own thoughts, a hefty volume of e-mails and his chosen written and broadcast references, there was a plethora of possible subjects. Finally, he chose to introduce you to three writings you may not have seen.

The first writing is an imaginary letter from God to Obama. Linden has often wondered how God feels in this regard: personally, he thinks Obama is an agnostic, at best. Linden has also wondered how those involved in preaching the Christian word of God can in good conscience provide support for this possible Muslim.

The second writing touches upon one of Linden’s fondest hopes: the defeat of Barney Frank. Linden believes that a very large portion of the reason for the economic distress throughout the entire world lays at the feet of this poor excuse for a leader.

The third writing touches upon the words and actions of Sarah Palin. In Linden’s opinion, she has been the brightest star on the political scene since she was able to save the McCain campaign from an even more telling defeat.

Still working so much that his school work suffered and he was unable to be as active socially as would have been most desirable. The wars in Europe and in the Pacific came to an end that year and the U.S. started rebuilding the world.

VACATION TIME...AGAIN
I believe I read or heard that Obama starts another ten day expensive vacation today. Of course, he just had a much shorter vacation on the Gulf Coast, and before that in Chicago, and before that, somewhere, etc, etc. Should we count the political fundraising expeditions he makes as vacations? His work must make him very tired!

Please don’t think for a moment that Linden does not approve of these frequent periods away from his duties. Actually, Linden would be in favor of him taking more vacations for longer periods. When we consider the amount of tremendous damage he has done to our country within those periods when he is not vacationing, we have to wonder how badly we would be off if he worked full time.

Although the book is very short, Jonah must have been well known and respected. He is referred to in II Kings 14:25 and by Jesus himself in Matthew 12:39-41.

Jonah was directed by the Lord to go to Nineveh and warn them of impending doom. Jonah did not want to go and boarded a ship bound for a distant port. A huge storm struck, Jonah admitted to being the cause of the storm and was thrown overboard. The storm quieted and Jonah was swallowed by a huge sea creature. While in the belly of the creature, he prayed and after being in the belly of the creature for three days and three nights, he was vomited onto the beach. He went to Nineveh.

Those in Nineveh turned from their sinful ways and averted destruction. Jonah was not pleased: he had hoped for destruction of the city.

Was without energy today. Did go out for dinner with Nicea Irwin, her son, Andrew, and step-mother, Janie. They are staying a night or two in the mission house. Chris and Nicea are missionaries in Spain and Janie and her husband are in Zimbabwe. Andrew is getting ready to start college here in the States.

ARE THEY ALL BLACK?
Well, no…of course not! But, as Linden reads stories of the rating problems of Obama and, justifiably, democrats in general, he has to wonder if there is correlation between the high ratings blacks give to democrats in general and Obama in particular, and these ratings being as high as they are. Probably so.

The first two links below address this general subject while naming their articles a little less “in your face” than Linden has. They are worth reading.

MAKING COMPARISONS
Linden probably would not have thought of this subject had he not stumbled upon the Bush link that appears below. Do not think for a moment that Linden was pleased with all that Bush did or satisfied with the things he did not address. Still we could do and have done worse. Consider the following comparisons:

Linden believes Bush to be basically very decent, a Christian who is not ashamed of his belief, very pro-American, well educated and smart, and certainly not a great public speaker although he is quite able to get his point across.

Linden believes that Obama is dishonest and devoid of decency, perhaps a Muslim, not very pro-American, perhaps well educated, not particularly smart but very sly, a good reader who has great difficulty getting his point across. Linden also believes he is the worst President who has occupied that office within the lifetime that Linden has mostly enjoyed.

Friday brought the usual Men’s Prayer Breakfast: Sandi did house cleaning while I was there…came after I left and was gone by the time I returned. Did more in that short period than I could do in an entire day. I took our church intern, Chris, to lunch at Panera Bread and just did household chores the rest of the day.

Saturday, in addition to doing a little running around, I, since I am in the process of identifying tapes, etc. that I do not intend to keep, was sorting through some recording tapes. I found one of a radio program where Rubye was talking about a company she was doing marketing for. Pretty impressive. Also found a radio program and a political meeting where I was talking about my suitability to hold elective office and a bit about the office I was vacating.

Sunday brought church and Sunday school followed by watching a Colts preseason game on TV.

"LAMESTREAM IS TOO POLITE"
In the “Spot The Democrat” link below, Ann mentions that a Nexis search revealed that over 300 media outlets had commented on the situation and ONE of them had mentioned the political party of the miscreants.

When Sarah Palin coined the “lamestream” label for those who had previously been known as the main stream media, it seemed fitting to Linden…now, we need another, harsher word. It is past time for those of us who are irritated by this situation to start contacting the ones who advertise in these shallow sheets and pompous programs.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Only Chuck and I attended our regular Thursday morning breakfast…it went well in spite of the missing Three Musketeers. Fair food was what was served at our monthly Golden Glows meeting: nachos with cheese, dill pickles, corn dogs, corn on the cob, barbequed chicken, and ice cream bars. It was great! A group of five students from Avon put on a rope jumping exhibition that was very good. At conclusion, Peggy Hileman, our leader, did a little rope jumping herself…pretty impressive.

In relation to our music link selection today, Linden was 14 at the start of his sophomore year in school in 1944, still working long and hard hours. Started to smoke sometime during that year and in other ways tried desperately to appear to be mature. Failed.

NO PARTY?
Granted, it is impossible for Linden to stay up to date with all of the happenings in the political arena and the White House too. But, he does have this strong feeling or remembrance that on practically every Wednesday there has been a huge party at the White House which mostly featured people Linden would not welcome in his home.

Linden could not find any mention in the Wednesday news of a party being scheduled. Was the badly needed and very expensive vacation taken by Michelle too tiring? Was the basketball shoot around by Obama as tiring as Michelle’s vacation? It is matters such as this that disrupt Linden’s sleep!

OBADIAH
Very little is know of this prophet who wrote of the coming destruction of Edom, a long time enemy and plunderer of those in Jerusalem. Shortly after the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. the Edomites were attacked by Assyria and were well on their way to being no more. A remnant lasted until about 70 A.D.

COST BENEFIT RATIO

COST BENEFIT RATIO
For some time, particularly during this economic downturn, Linden has wondered about the cost of college as compared to potential
financial benefit. There is no doubt that the cost keeps escalating as does the number of borrowers who are unable to pay their student loans. Linden does not have the answer to what each person should do but it demands that affected persons carefully consider the effect it may have on their lives. A link below touches on the subject.

In a related matter, at the complete opposite of the educational scale, Linden brings you another link to a person of such limited intelligence that it is scary to think that they probably vote. If this one does vote, 10 to 1 she is a democrat. It is quite possible that this link has been presented to you earlier (don’t remember) but, if so, you may as well ruin your day and view it again.

I’ve been waiting for a time for Joyce and Carl to come out and the three of us go to Steak and Shake for a bite to eat and a shake. I could wait no longer…went alone and really enjoyed it. Having (hopefully) learned my lesson in regard to procrastination while producing my writings that are now being edited, I made a small start on writing my next book today. The goal is to have it completed shortly after the first of the year.

LEAVE EARLY, STAY LATE
Linden believes that our Congress is scheduled to adjourn later today and not return to “work” until around the 10th of September.
In appreciation for their efforts so far in 2010, he would like to suggest that they adjourn early and stay, maybe through December.

Consider the benefits to the taxpayer if they had adopted this suggestion January 1 and continued it through December 31: for starters, the taxpayers would have been billions of dollars better off, a gaggle of laws would have never been enacted and Kagan would not have been confirmed to “serve” on the Supreme Court. Any benefits of Congress meeting this year are not apparent to Linden.

LINDEN'S LIFE
After Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00, I tracked down what I think is all of my VCR tapes and kinda sorted them out. Later, talked to Joyce about a poetry project.

Had another men’s prayer breakfast at Kingsway church at 7:30 and for lunch, went to Thuc’s to take him to a Greek restaurant near where he lives to celebrate his birthday. Went back to his place for a while, saw pictures of his daughter, Jennifer, and his youngest son, Long, and watched an impressive video of his older son, Chris. Chris was born in Viet Nam and the two younger ones in the U.S. It was a very nice visit.

Sunday, at church, Justin White preached a great sermon on Zephaniah. His Dad, Steve, is the best ever and Justin is becoming a close second. John Lee had a very well prepared lesson on Numbers at Sunday school. In the evening, the youth ministry presented two reports. The younger ones had a great experience at a camp for the handicapped and the older ones gave a great report on their trip to Cambodia. What a great group of young Christians is being developed!

THURSDAY, A SAD DAY
Knowing, or at least being reasonably certain, that a goodly portion of the total cost of Michelle Obama’s vacation trip to Spain will be funded by the American taxpayer, Linden thought about how many taxpayers, say those each paying $5,000.00 per year in federal taxes, it would take to fund the taxpayer portion of the bills. That is a sad thought.

Not quite, but close to equally sad is the news that Kagan was confirmed to “serve” on the Supreme Court. As predicted in an earlier posting, 5 republicans joined the gaggle of democrats. It was a sad day indeed.

LINDEN'S LIFE
In 1943 Linden started his freshman year at Southport high school, it was several times larger than the Illinois school he attended the previous year. Probably before school started he got a job helping a bread truck driver when he could: usually Saturday’s after school started. One of the stops we made, probably 40 miles South of Indianapolis, was at a large tomato field which employed several hundred Jamaicans as pickers. We arrived there just as breakfast was starting and they would play the song above (I think) over and over at peak volume. They were all Spanish speakers so I didn’t understand a word they said. They surely liked that song.

In the first grading period, I was on the honor roll and was running on the cross country team. I was never again on the honor roll but did continue running cross country, and track in the Spring through my sophomore year. It was about a six mile walk if running caused me to miss the bus ride home.

Probably the primary reason my grades dropped off was that I had gotten another job, working in a dairy. Hard work! Had to get up about 4:00 a.m. and, of course had to return to work after I got home from school. I was often tired. I turned 14 in January of that year.

Now, back to Thursday: Had our usual breakfast…Bill was gone on a trip with a church group. I went to the church, post office, credit union and grocery. Also, since my VCR player had been doing poorly, went by Jack’s to see if the tapes were bad: Nope! It is the player. Called Chuck and maybe he can solve the problem.

IS THERE HOPE?
In Missouri on Tuesday voters overwhelmingly voted to prevent the federal government from requiring people to carry health insurance and, further, to penalize those who do not do so. That provides some hope.

A Virginia Judge recently ruled that a suit to stop the healthcare bill may continue. That provides some hope.

A Michigan Republican Congressman said that the death penalty is appropriate for the man accused of leaking government secrets. That provides some hope.

Congress will soon start a vacation that lasts over a month. That provides some hope.

The fairly recent deaths of Byrd, Kennedy, and Murtha could be thought of as a positive sign.

The link below to an Ann Coulter column provides some hope.

So that you will not get too giddy over these prospects, remember that 5 Republican Senators have said that they will vote for the confirmation of Kagan. We should hope that they are “serving” their last term.

AMOS
Thought to have lived about 750 years before the coming of Jesus Christ, Amos, as was true of several other of the Old Testament prophets, warned of Gods plan to destroy Israel if they did not turn from their evil ways.

This short book closes by promising that after the coming destruction, God would eventually restore Israel.

LINDEN'S LIFE
My Monday thru Friday music selection sequence is usually country, classical, religious, once somewhat popular, and starting with my birth year (1930,) a hit song of that year. There is no way I can know how many of my readers also listen to the music I so carefully choose. I do hope you will listen to today’s selection.

Tuesday was the day that I looked forward to for quite a long time. I forwarded my most recent book writing effort to Sharon for her to apply her editing magic to. You could say that I was and am happy.

BEING PREPARED
Having been a Boy Scout for part of the 9 or 10 months Linden lived in Illinois, almost 70 years ago, he has remembered their “Be Prepared” motto ever since.

Now, as he contemplates replacing his 11 year old Toyota in another 10 years or so, it seems wise to prepare early for any eventuality. There has been much made of the recent introduction of the Chevy Volt. Knowing that you have undoubtedly soaked up much of the early ballyhoo, there is no need to repeat any of it.

To cut to the chase, please know that Linden is prepared to offer as much as $250.00 for a new one at this time. There is a time limit on this offer. The offering price was arrived at by guessing at what the present cost may be for two lower priced bicycles.

LINDEN'S LIFE
For the first time in a few weeks, went to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Did quite a bit of writing and am, I think, getting close to finishing the book I’ve been working on. For some reason, I have had trouble bringing it together. It should have been easy.

LINDEN REMAINS IN A SNIT
While contemplating the sad situation in several different areas within our country over the weekend, Linden faintly remembered a mention of judges being removed from office. Then he received a link to the subject: it was one he had used some months ago. It is well worth using again.

The first link today is presented just because Linden wants you to view the speaking ability of our President. The second link is being presented simply because of Linden’s great admiration for Gov. Brewer. And the third, by Newt Gingrich, simply because every American needs to view it about once a week.

Don’t misunderstand, Linden is not on the Gingrich bandwagon. He does believe that Newt may be the smartest man on the political scene today but he has been opposed to Linden’s positions enough, just enough, to make Linden uneasy in spite of his admiration for his (Newt’s) thought processing abilities.

LINDEN'S LIFE
Attended the Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday morning and mostly just piddled around the house until Sunday. Then, went to church and Sunday school and to brunch with friends. In the afternoon, went to a bluegrass music show at church. There were three bands and it was very enjoyable. Later, my friend, Brenda, called to tell me that one of the men who had been a coworker of ours had died.
