MISSING PERSON REPORT:
Linden has no news dispatches to verify that this posting title is correct but, he can think of no situation which would render it other than completely accurate. News releases within the last few days are the cause for this concern.

News reports show that Homeland Security Secretary (or something like that) Janet Napolitano has taken over the responsibility of the Secretary of State in reporting first that everything was fine and then that everything was not fine in regard to the abortive attempt by an Islamic terrorist to blow up an airplane as it neared Detroit.

Next, it was announced that Senator Kerry was going to Iran for what some think was the purpose of telling the madman ruler that the U.S. is solidly behind his effort to forcibly suppress the budding revolt. This is the kind of task normally reserved for the Secretary of State!!

Had biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A, saw several friends there. Went on to a couple of stores and the post office—more friends. Back home, did some washing over at the Mission House and cleared the walks there of snow and then, did some ironing back at my place. In my Wednesday posting, I referred to skipping school to see a movie that had Boccherini’s Minuet in it. Brian sent me a link that enabled me to discover that the movie was “Time Of Their Lives” with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. The year was probably 1946.

IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE:
It never occurred to Linden that the year would draw to a close with him thinking for any appreciable time about Ted Kennedy. The year has been bad enough without that. A Hot Air article penned by Ed Morrissey is responsible.

It seems that there is a special election scheduled in Massachusetts on January 19 to fill the seat once held by the Senator mentioned above and the Republicans are not providing enough funding to give Scott Brown the name recognition he needs. After the dollars they wasted on Scozzafava in NY23 just recently, this just does not make sense.

In conjunction with the Kennedy related link below, it may well be that the average voter in Massachusetts often does not make sense when they cast their vote.

WELL DONE, JANET?
As Linden was listening to Mark Steyn on the Monday Rush Limbaugh radio show it was impossible to miss the comment by Janet Napolitano, Homeland Security Secretary, saying that “the system worked.” She was talking about the attempting terrorist action against a plane nearing landing in Detroit. Surely she was not part of the plan to allow this terrorist to bring explosives aboard the aircraft! Surely having a Dutchman take matters into his own hands after the bomb ignition failed was not part of her plan! Later, she corrected her statement by agreeing that “the system failed miserably.” This administration is not good but it is very consistent.

“Public servants” and the military take an oath promising fealty to our constitution and our way of life. You are no doubt aware of the record of Benedict Arnold, probably the best known of our military traitors: “public servants” are not so quickly judged.

Linden believes that several of the bills passed by Congress in the 2009 sessions are so bad for our country and for the generations to come that those who assisted in their passage should be judged as actively working against the best interests of our country.

Indiana’s sneaky Senator Bayh, well known for not voting until he is assured that his interests are guaranteed by the votes of others while he is allowed to cast a conservative image to Hoosier voters, is one that Linden believes should be carefully judged by those voters. This judgment is overdue.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Had a good breakfast meeting Thursday morning and a great Candlelight Communion at the church in the evening.
Heard from both Julie and Brian and his family on Christmas day. Jade made the trip to England with Julie and Kenneth ok although she didn’t sleep. Brian’s are all good. Bill and Barbara asked me to come over at lunch time—since they had already celebrated the holiday, I went and had a wonderful lunch. Bill had brought some chokecherry jelly back from Nebraska—it was really good.
On Saturday I talked to Brian as he was driving to the airport to pick up Alison, she was returning from California.
Sunday brought morning service and Sunday school followed by brunch with friends. Watched the Colts game in the afternoon.

Linden was feeling just a little glum as he prepared this posting. Not because of any particularly new bad news—it is just the accumulated knowledge that our country is so poorly led that it is almost unbelievable.

As we progress toward one of the two holiest of Christian holy days it is not comforting to know that there are no democrat supporting pro-lifers, no moderate democrats, and that there are no responsible blue dog democrats. Oh well, this too shall pass.

WHAT NOW ???

WHAT NOW???
This is truly a reasonable question for those in positions of authority who have been dealt with unfairly by the passage of the healthcare bill. Linden believes it is not an unreasonable question for those of us who are not in such a position.

For those democrat Senators who were bypassed in the dispensing of special perks to buy votes (Indiana’s Bayh would be one of these), Linden would recommend that they pass the word to Senator Reid that their continuing vote for passage is no longer assured.

For Governors of States that were left out at the feeding trough, they should investigate all avenues which could lead to attempting to cause the bill to be declared unconstitutional.

For those of us who are neither a Senator or a State leader, perhaps our only avenue is to attempt to get even in future elections. This is worth doing, regardless.

Well, it happened just as we feared! The democrat leadership (not necessarily the former democrat voters) did it to the taxpayers again. Not a single Republican voted for the cloture vote that the democrats won early Monday morning. This virtually assured that the healthcare bill that nobody has read will become law. It is now easy to understand how the man in Italy became so frustrated that he hit their government leader in the mouth. I try not to visualize how effective it would be if there were sixty like him monitoring the actions in the U.S. Senate.
Future postings will probably address individual disappointments but, for now, please read the following linked article.

Linden was a great admirer of Newt Gingrich about fifteen years ago and that admiration continued for a period of time. Then, don’t ask why, he seemed to Linden to deviate from his conservative rock solid foundation. It is possible that Linden failed to properly analyze the situation.

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. It was a pitch in affair and was good. Later, had a nice talk with Julie. Thuc wanted me to join him and a couple of other guys and their wives for dinner but snow was predicted and I don’t see as well as I would like at night so, I begged off.
On Saturday, I attended the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at the Kingsway church and, later, joined some of the other members of my writers group at a Christmas get-together at the home of Steve and Joyce. It was very nice.
Sunday brought church services and Sunday school in the morning followed by brunch with friends. Little activity followed.

HUGO, HILLARY, AND MORE
In his speech at the global warming fiasco in Copenhagen, Hugo Chavez, leader of Venezuela, said that the silent and terrible ghost of capitalism was in the room. This brought a great burst of applause. Of course this was not all he said but it provided insight into the fact that these people do not like us but they sure want our money. Our Secretary of State should have walked out!

Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State pledged U.S. support for providing poorer nations with $100,000,000,000.00 per year to protect them from the ravages of climate change. That is a pretty hefty sum for a virtually bankrupt nation to pledge particularly for an unproven climate theory.

Four inches of snow fell in Copenhagen and they have not had a white Christmas in 14 years. Linden found that to be rather funny.

Nancy Pelosi adjourned the House until next year and headed a delegation of 12 democrats and 5 Republicans in a taxpayer-funded journey to Copenhagen. It is said that the Republicans were to remain silent. Is it possible that they took five planes?

Meanwhile in the Senate, an attempt was made to force the reading of an almost 800 page amendment concerned with healthcare. Breaking the Senate rules, the Parliamentarian allowed the reading to be stopped. No rule and no sense of decency will be allowed to halt this effort.

PLAYING GAMES:
One of the allusions to a situation wherein a half-hearted effort is being made to accomplish something that is perhaps worthwhile is “you’re just playing games.” It seems that this description fits very nicely with what our three branches of government are providing the taxpayers.

A worthwhile playing games effort was made by Senator Tom Coburn when he objected to waiving the requirement that a 767 page healthcare related amendment be read. The Clerk read for roughly an hour before the objection was withdrawn. Linden thinks that this game should have been played to completion.

A much less worthwhile, bordering on criminal, game playing effort has been being played by those who most strongly support the healthcare bill. The blatant buying of votes is a disgrace to both the buyer and seller. Surely there are better “public servants” that would be willing to act responsibly.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
After completing my blog posting, I, as I usually do, checked a blog http://www.kissesfromkatie.blogspot.com/ that I find interesting. It was very touching.
It was cold, 12 degrees as I started toward my Study Buddy session. I stopped at the complex entryway to pick up my morning paper, and turned the car East, toward the sun. The windshield was still slightly fogged up, the sun blinded me and I almost hit a car! It was driven by the Pier 14 secretary who was getting ready to turn in and start her day’s work. I felt foolish!
After the Study Buddy session, I went to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy and then on to the post office. I had another doctor appointment in the afternoon. Did little of note afterward.

Included in my daily running around was a trip to a seamstress who removed the stitching that closed the pockets and some other stuff from the beautiful new coat that Brian got for me. The evening brought a very enjoyable Christmas party at Don and Donna’s home. Five couples and I were the participants. She prepared a really good dinner and there was a lot of laughing..

The Republicans had been attempting to stop a massive spending bill from moving forward by means of a filibuster. Their efforts eventually came to naught.

Three democrats joined with the Republicans. They were Evan Bayh of Indiana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, and Russ Feingold of Wisconsin. Certainly McCaskill didn’t cast her vote until she was sure that the filibuster would be broken. This may buy her some cover at her next election. The other two democrats may have followed her lead. Linden can think of no other reason for Feingold to vote as he did. Bayh has a history of attempting to look very conservative for the benefit of the voters back in Indiana. He is very slick.

Republican Senators Thad Cochran of Mississippi, Susan Collins of Maine, and Richard Shelby of Alabama voted with the democrat majority! Any one of those three could have either caused the filibuster to continue or cause one of the three democrats to change their vote. In Linden’s opinion, Cochran and Shelby do not quite make the grade as Conservative Republicans and Collins is well known for being a weak sister when it comes to desirable support. We should pray that all three will be replaced by a Conservative when they next face reelection.

This is a reference that is made from time to time and, frankly, it makes Linden sick. Those that sit figuratively across the aisle from Linden in the seats of power in our nations capital are not his friends. It is possible to be excessively polite and this “friends” phrase is being just that.

REDOING CONGRESS:
As regular readers know, Linden normally prepares his posting the evening before it appears. Wednesday was such a busy day that he had little time to consider what subject to select for the subject of the day. Luckily, an email from Chuck helped. The only thing Linden can add to the link below is the comment he made on the site referred to below. He said that left over campaign funds should be used toward reducing the national debt rather than being allowed to accumulate.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
While shaving to get ready for the Study Buddy session, the phone rang, I laid the razor on the table and answered the phone. I do not always recognize voices and the caller, who did not identify himself, I thought to be Jack. He wanted me to let his dog out on Thursday while they were gone. I said that I didn’t know that he had a dog and that I would come by after the Study Buddy session.
The razor would not work when I picked it back up and I had just recently spent about $30.00 for cutting blades for it. NUTS! Jack was gone when I got to his house and Helen did not know what we had discussed. After I got home, I called Paul, who had left me a message the previous night. In talking to him, I became aware that he was the one who had called earlier in the day. I went by his house and all ended well. We all thought it was funny.

I did two loads of wash at the Mission House and was really cold every time I went outside. The temperature stayed around freezing and the wind was blowing hard—some gusts to 40 and 50 miles per hour. That may be why I selected today’s song link—I well remember my time in Alaska. In the evening, we had a good meal and program at church.

Too often we have observed the failure of the “lamestream” media to exert due diligence in performing their duty of reporting the news in a far-reaching and accurate fashion.

Linden has been employed in many different capacities by numerous people and organizations. He has acted as the agent of the employer in the area of making personnel decisions but has never been an employer. Speaking of other than government employment, he has usually felt that the employee owes a debt of gratitude to the employer.

In the private sector, the employer has an obligation to himself and/or the stockholders to make money and to grow the company. The employees are a tool he uses to accomplish this.

The employees initially accepted the terms and conditions offered by the employer. If conditions or circumstances dictate that a change should be made in these terms and conditions, the employee has (if fortunate) the right to accept or refuse these new conditions.

Our first significant snowfall of the year came last night—about two inches, I guess. I walked the distance to pick up my morning paper but didn’t venture out again for a while. Then, I went to the post office, to see my mechanic, by the Chamber of Commerce, to the credit union, gas station, and grocery. The roads were in good shape when I did venture out on them.

PEARL HARBOR DAY:
On this day, almost 70 years ago the United States was attacked by Japan and shortly after the U.S. was heavily involved in World War II. At that time, we were a relatively weak nation and we were in about the tenth year of a severe depression. It was a long war and many good men and women were either killed or wounded. That is the way it is in a war of this type.

It is a rarity for a strong nation with good intelligence resources to be attacked by a weaker nation.

Now we are involved in a war of a much different, but no less dangerous, type. Our opponents are difficult to define and our “leaders” wish to downgrade our military strength and further emasculate our intelligence gathering operations.

LINDEN'S LIFE:
Attended Men’s Prayer Breakfasts on Friday and Saturday mornings. Other activities included washing my sheets and blankets and turning my mattress. That was not easy for a weak old man manhandling a queen size mattress in a room with a low ceiling. Saturday evening my Sunday school class had a Christmas party – great food and fellowship and very good entertainment provided by Alanna Crafton, Joe Looker, and Mark Pryor. Sunday brought morning and evening services and watching a Colts game.

GOOD THINGS TO COME?
With the recent corroboration that global warming is a hoax, it allows us to consider all the good things that could come us if and when our political leaders become aware of this fact.

For starters, the law that will require switching to fluorescent light bulbs should be repealed. Then, drilling for and refining of oil will be encouraged by these “leaders.” Government funding of the development of alternative energy sources will be stopped. The number of employees and consultants employed by The Dept. of Energy will be sharply reduced. Our taxes and deficits will be made manageable and perhaps our Grandchildren will not have this huge debt we now plan for them.

In order to bring this about more quickly, we should complain to those who advertise on the networks and in the print media. Our message should be something like, “I tend to resent the fact that you are advertising on (or in—name of media outlet) while they are actively engaged in failure to provide information relating to the discovery that “global warming” is a scam.”
