BANKRUPT STATES

Mark Steyn, while filling in for Rush Limbaugh last Friday, directed Linden’s focus to the potential answer to the problem facing those States that have not acted responsibly in regard to financial management.

There is no way that Linden is qualified to lecture on this matter. However, he did find an article that addresses the matter in some detail. A link to this article is provided immediately below. It is followed by three more links, each worth your time to use. The music link was chosen because Charlie Louvin died last week.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. Later, went by the church office, a grocery and to the post office. Nothing significant the rest of the day.

Saturday: Friends joined me as I had breakfast at Chick-fil-A. We had a pleasant visit. Then, I went to the post office, library, grocery and dropped off donations at Goodwill. Had a good phone visit with Joyce Brinkman and Julie came by for a wonderful visit. She has been in Minneapolis and Tulsa. She said Jade was sick. Also, she brought me some toffee and chocolate covered popcorn that I really like.

Sunday: Justin delivered a really great sermon at church and John had prepared a great Sunday school lesson. Went to brunch with friends then, at home, fell asleep while reading the paper. Went to a good evening church service then listened to the broadcast of the last part of an Indiana University basketball game… it was a heartbreaking loss in overtime.

A HOOSIER HERO

Not many stop to consider the heroism displayed by police officers as they go about their business of protecting the public in many different ways.

Indianapolis Officer David Moore passed away Wednesday after being shot four times during a traffic stop three days earlier. The suspected killer, a career criminal, has been apprehended and charged with murder.

His parents, both career police officers, have been an absolute class act. So difficult! As many as ten organ recipients will benefit from the donations made by David. He, like his parents, is and was a class act. God bless him, them, and all who serve.

Started my Thursday by meeting Bill, Chuck, and Jack for Breakfast. Later, went to the post office, credit union, gas stations and back home. Spent considerable computer time in various areas, including trying to secure desired traveling in Ireland information.

Was notified today that Mike Pence does not intend to seek the nomination for the Presidency. He would have been easy to support.

GRADING SOTU ADDRESSES

Far and away the best SOTU related words were delivered by Michele Bachmann. Here is a link …listen:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fRxO_Yx99I

Modestly I say that second place goes to the linden-would blog posting of Tuesday, January 25.

Third place goes to the GOP rebuttal by Paul Ryan.

Last place in this grading goes to our President, Barack Obama. The speech may have been well written and well read but, based upon rational thinking, it was without merit. Lasted too long, contained no solutions for our existing problems, and the meaningless infrequent applause added nothing.

I TIMOTHY

This letter, written by Paul around 65 A.D. to his trusted helper, Timothy, was written to guide Timothy in his leadership of the church in Ephesus.

Paul addresses false teachers and teachings; prayer; women in the church; ministry; widows, Elders; slaves; love of money; and closes with personal instruction to Timothy.
--
Pasted copy of an E-mail received regarding an imaginary evaluation of the twelve disciples:

Dear Sir:
Thank you for submitting resumés of the twelve men you have chosen for
management positions in your new organization. All of them have taken a battery of
tests and been interviewed by our psychologist and our company vocational aptitude
consultant. The profiles of the tests are included.
It is the staff’s opinion that most of the nominees are lacking in background,
education, and vocational aptitude for the type of world-wide enterprise you are
undertaking. Simon Peter is quite emotionally unstable and given to fits of
temper. Andrew, his brother, has absolutely no required qualities of leadership.
The two other brothers, James and John, obviously place their own personal
ambitions far above any group loyalty. Thomas demonstrates a questioning
attitude that would tend to undermine morale. Bartholomew, also known as
Nathanael, also exhibits a skepticism that could also undermine morale. We
feel it our ethical duty to inform you that Matthew, the tax-collector, has been
blacklisted by the Jerusalem Better Business Bureau. Thaddeus and Simon, of
the Zealot Party, have radical leanings and are not good choices. One of your
chosen candidates, however, shows great potential, a man of proven ability and
resourcefulness, with a keen business mind and contacts in high places. We
highly recommend Judas Iscariot as your treasurer and right-hand man.
As for the others mentioned, we recommend that you continue your search for
persons of greater experience and talent.
Sincerely yours,
THE JORDAN
MANAGEMENT CO.

Had another birthday celebration! Thuc and I went to a Greek restaurant near where he lives. He had chicken and I had leg of lamb. Good meal and an equally good visit. He also gave me a box of chocolates. Back at his house, he showed me a DVD of his speech at an American Legion post regarding his family and his time during the Vietnamese war. I took a nap after I returned home. Watched the SOTU address in the evening.

LINDEN’S SOTU ADDRESS

“Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. Because of the seriousness of this address, I request that you not interrupt with meaningless applause.

We are at a dismal point in U.S. and world history. The present job related and fiscal problems were exacerbated by the lack of proper attention to the excesses of two federal lending agencies and to the anti business sentiment of those writing the tax laws. Correct this!

With 23 months left to serve by some of those recently elected to serve in the House, there is no time to lose. Following is a partial list of items demanding attention:

Enforce immigration laws.
Decrease the federal workforce.
Decrease the number of government consultants.
Decrease federal pay rates and grades.
Reduce White House discretionary spending.
Do away with Czars.
Defund NPR.
Stop subsidizing ethanol.
Consolidate government agencies.
Make lame duck sessions illegal.
Reduce White House party and travel funding.
Attempt to recover misspent funds.
Reauthorize use of incandescent light bulbs.

As I said, this is a partial list, you can do more. Now, go on your way and pray that our nation can withstand the era of poor fiscal management it has suffered through. Good night.”

KILLING BABIES

The report that Kermit Gosnell had effectively butchered seven newly born babies in Philadelphia recently is apparently only one of the times he had engaged in murder for hire. The story is enough to turn the stomach of any caring person. One has to wonder how closely his actions were to the partial birth abortions which were apparently approved of by our President.

Friday: walked through deep snow, got the car our of the barn and drove to Men’s Prayer Breakfast…our visitors from Ukraine spoke. Later, ray cleaned off the lane and I parked in front of the house. I cleared off my walkway a bit and the walk at the Mission House. Brian called…he returned from Italy and was tired.

Saturday: said “goodbye” to the Wash family as they left for Africa at 8:00. I received my plastic drivers license…not quite as ugly as it looked on paper.

Sunday: Brian Lowery, our new church planter, had a good sermon based on the book of James. Good singing. As usual, John provided a good Sunday school lesson based on the book of Joshua. I went to brunch with friends. I watched some TV sports and attended evening church. Our friends from Ukraine spoke again. They were impressive and Bill and Barbara were great hosts.

STEP ONE TOWARD SANITY

As Linden has mentioned on more than one occasion, there are over twenty different items he believes should be addressed and corrected by the new Republican controlled House members.

They very adequately addressed step one by voting (with three democrats agreeing) that the Obama Healthcare bill should be rejected. Now to force the democrat controlled Senate to bring it to a vote! They will resist.

So, House step one has been completed and now we can look forward to the many steps which should follow.

SEATING AT STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

In actions which indicate that the majority of U.S. voters are well on the way to becoming like Linden in their opposition to a free spending Congress, a great number of Republicans were elected to many of the available positions in the last election.

Suddenly, the word “bi-partisan” is even more in evidence. In this vein, several within the Congress think it would be just wonderful for the Parties to not sit separately when the State Of The Union Address is delivered.

Freshman (and even Sophomore) members of Congress should be well aware that they were not sent to Washington to be anything other than partisan. They were sent there to oppose by any means possible the overspending which has been the hallmark of the democrats. All members of Congress are temporary employees!

Written by Paul about 52 A D, this extremely short book was apparently written to address a misconception held by some in the Thessalonian church regarding when Jesus would return to earth.

Some had thought that the day of his return would be so soon that they should no longer work. Paul straightened out their thinking.

OOPS, MISSED ONE!!!

In his posting on December 17, Linden listed 22 different areas that the new Republican House should look to for possible savings of taxpayers money. So far, they have indicated that they will address two of them and it is still early.

On Monday, Linden discovered that he had not mentioned the waste of money on “green” projects. There are several different areas within which waste could easily be found. And to think, the entire “green” movement is founded on the false theory of global warming. The first link below addresses some of this waste…the other is pretty music.

A WORTHWHILE APPROACH

Following the murders in Tucson by a mentally impaired man, we were treated by many “respected” members of the MSM to several allegations that right wingers, Tea Partiers, or others of the more conservative bent were responsible for this bloodbath. Sarah Palin was probably mentioned more frequently in this regard than any other.

Linden believes that it is past time for these media outlets to pay a higher price for their slipshod, rancorous reporting. It is time for responsible persons who are subjects to this slanted and inaccurate “reporting” to strike back. Linden’s suggestion is that advertisers be contacted and told that shopping in their place of business will be curtailed until they quit supporting these offenders of truth.

Linden should have completed this sentence by saying that they are talented and beautiful. If you did not read my comments and link to Sarah Palin yesterday, please do so and listen to her comments.

The links below present three of these beautiful and talented women: Susana Martinez of New Mexico, Ann Coulter, and Nikki Haley of South Carolina. Being behind schedule, there is no mention today of Michele Bachmann, Christine O’Donnell, Sharron Angle, and numerous other beautiful and talented conservative women. It is more than possible that they will lead our country back to world leadership in every regard.

This short letter, believed to be the first or second epistle written by Paul in about A.D. 51, expresses pleasure with the development of the church in Thessalonica and encourages the member to continue on in the face of persecution.

Because of the pressure brought against him by non-Christians, Paul was in Thessalonica only a short time. He sent Timothy back for a review and was pleased with his report.

FEDERAL JUDGE JOHN M. ROLL KILLED

In a shooting incident in Tucson, Arizona this past Saturday, Federal Judge John M. Roll was among the six that were fatally shot. Twelve others, including Representative Giffords, were injured in this senseless shooting. The shooter is reported to have a history of mental aberrations.

Although Judge Roll was appointed by former Republican President George H. W. Bush in 1991 and therefore should almost certainly be considered a Republican, there have been no charges that the shootings were a hate crime directed against Republican officeholders.

MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

In my posting of December 17, I mentioned 22 different items for our now Republican House to, hopefully, address. I am more than a little pleased that they have started work on two of these items: attempting to do away with the healthcare bill and attempting to defund the White House Czars. Yay Yay Yay!!!

I would not have linked to the five items below if I did not believe that they would be worth your time to read or listen to.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Friday: My car door was frozen shut, took a while to get in and I was almost late for Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Read the paper, took a nap, went to the credit union and post office.

Saturday: It was cold and I only ventured out for a short time twice.

Sunday: I had a very sore throat and did not go to church. Only went outside to get the paper. Had to cancel a birthday remembrance with Bill and Heather and kids. Listened to both Irish and German music and finished reading “The Stonecutter’s Aria” by Carol Faenzi. With that I got a little Italian exposure. Brian got that very good book for me.

READING THE CONSTITUTION

For Linden, and it seemed many others of the conservative bent, it was absolutely appropriate for this Congressional session to be started with a reading of the Constitution. This approval was not shared by many of those speaking for the democrats, Marxists, and socialists. It would be interesting to hear these disgraceful ones try to explain their swearing to uphold the Constitution in which they seem to hold in such little regard.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Thursday, I met Bill and Chuck for breakfast at 8:00. As usual, it was very enjoyable. Later, Chuck picked me up and then Bob and Barbara Ward to go to the State Capital and observe the swearing in of three top State officers. It was an impressive ceremony. Having slept poorly the previous night, I was really tired by the time I arrived back home.

BOEHNER BLOOMS

Perhaps the words “for now” should be added to the title of this piece. Only time will tell. Considering that over five trillion of the total debt of almost fourteen trillion dollars was added to the burden carried by current and future generations of taxpayers under the “watch” of Nancy Pelosi, the words of Speaker Boehner were welcome indeed.

Within his speech he stated that operations of the House would be changed with renewed focus on the constitution.

Members will have three days to read a bill.

Committees will be smaller.

It will be easier to cut spending and a start would be made by cutting the Congressional budget.

For these and other reasons, Linden is hopeful for now.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Celebrated my birthday with Sam at the Milano Inn in downtown Indianapolis. About thirty years ago he and I and two other co-workers had what we called a birthday club. After a time, as a joke on one of these two others, we announced that we were going to disband the birthday club. A couple of days later we called a meeting to start proceedings to dissolve the club and, of course, we had meetings of this Dissolution Committee in conjunction with birthdays. So, although two members moved to Florida, Sam and I still have twice yearly Dissolution Committee meetings.

In the evening, had dinner and attended a program at church. It sounds like my day was not busy…it was.

COLOSSIANS

This short book, written by Paul from prison in Rome in about A. D. 60, was written because Paul had been told that some of those in the church at Colosse were establishing man-made rules and encouraging the worship of angels.

Paul emphasizes in his letter that the way to a joyful eternity is through faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and that they should put aside man-made approaches to religious belief.

LINDEN’S LIFE

Received many birthday wishes by card, phone, and Facebook. Nice! Had a pizza lunch with Tyler and Adriene and in the evening a great birthday dinner and visit with Kent and Donna. Brian’s daughter, Alison, is excited about being chosen to play soccer Saturday with a senior level team. She and I also decided, since her birthday is on the 20th, that we would average our two birth dates and start a movement toward a national SWIFT day of celebration on the 12th.

AN IDEA WORTH PURSUING?

Mark Steyn, filling in as a guest host on the Rush Limbaugh radio show, advanced the idea that perhaps broken CFR light bulbs that contain mercury should be packaged up and mailed to the Senator or Representative who helped to pass this monstrosity of a bill.

He further said that over three hundred out of four hundred thirty five house members and over eighty of the one hundred members of the Senate voted for this bill. Do they not think at all and are their staffs totally incompetent?

LINDEN’S LIFE

Other than walking out to get the paper in the early morning, making a trip to the post office, and, later, walking out to check the mail box, I was inside all day on Monday. Donna came by in the afternoon bringing me a birthday card and a copy of the George Bush book “Decision Points.” I appreciate the thoughtfulness. She and Kent returned from visiting family in Texas on Saturday.

Few of us, Linden included, should ever go through life and expect that the image we project is viewed with unending appreciation by every person who forms an opinion.

In this vein, Linden has an opinion of the image projected by Michelle Obama: it is of a person with little, if any, appreciation of the blessings that have been bestowed upon her. Probably this opinion was primarily formed by her lavish lifestyle which is funded by the U.S. taxpayer.

An example of this is the report that 63,000 additional dollars were spent to get her to the current Hawaii vacation because she did not want to wait until her husband was ready to go. Divide the amount of your 2010 federal taxes paid into 63,000 to arrive at the number of people like you who paid for this unnecessary expense.

LINDEN’S LIFE
Friday: Went to Chick-fil-A for biscuits and gravy. Jack and Helen were there so we had a nice visit. I thought that I had received a Kringle from Katia when I went to the post office…nope! It was one Cheryl had ordered: www.ohdanishbakery.com at home, I fixed a cup of hot chocolate from the mix that Lisa had brought from Maine and finished off the chocolate covered popcorn and chocolate covered gingerbread that Julie had brought from Chicago. Later, heard from both Julie and Brian. Good day!

Saturday: Slept in until 8:00 then went out to get my paper and did not go outside again all day. Watched Butler win a basketball game and heard from some friends.

Sunday: At church, Justin preached from the book of James and in Sunday school, John taught from the book of Joshua. I love my church! Then, went to brunch with friends. While at church, Bill Wash gave me a note he and Heather had written. Later, watched the Colts win their football game.
