Linden has generally had some confidence in the words of Senator Marco Rubio, he has almost always distrusted a Senate committee named “gang of” anything, and he believes that Senator McCain was once a great man but that is no longer so…Possibly the same with Senator Graham. Even a reasonably unintelligent person should be able to recognize that we have a serious problem with immigration as it is presently “enforced.” This situation is not helped by the words of Secretary Napolitano. The highlights of Friday were the Men’s Prayer Breakfast and exchanging messages with Julie.

Saturday brought the meeting at Kingsway: Jeff and I did some reading and Lloyd gave the closing prayer. Watched some boxing later.

A SONNET FOR SHARON

A very good life it has been,
mostly clean living with just a little sin,
I read the Good Book from time to time
and wrote some prose and some that rhyme.
I have to admit it's not to my taste

Around four years ago Sharon Herbitter, the niece of good friends, sent me several chapters of a story she called “Caroline”. I liked it very much and a few months later penned and sent her the above sonnet. This past Sunday, April 14, 2013, she sent me the completed story. It was worth waiting for…I hope so much that she finds the best possible person or organization to make it available to the public at large. I will buy more than one copy.

Linden realizes that this is largely a political blog. But, some things are more important than comments about a largely incompetent bunch of “leaders”. Caroline is more important.

On Monday I spent a goodly amount of time on the computer, a lesser amount going through my mail and followed this with a very enjoyable lunch with Laura at a Danville restaurant. She had just returned from a vacation with her sisters and her mother. Her mother lives in Arizona. They had a great time together, particularly while at a resort in Mexico.  In the evening I attended a CDCMF meeting at Fair Haven Christian Church. I ate more than I needed and the program was about estate planning.

Linden mentioned the murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell while at brunch with friends on Sunday…he said that he had not seen a word about the trial in the print media. There had been numerous mentions of it in the internet news. Imagine Linden’s surprise to find an AP article regarding the matter on page 8 of the Indianapolis Sunday Star! It appears that the internet news providers are beginning to have some effect on the MSM. If you are not familiar with this case, you should become so. Naturally the entire leftist organizations are very reluctant to discuss this…after all, they are merely following the lead of President Obama’s previous actions.  Sickening!

Friday brought the Men’s Prayer Breakfast at 6:00. This was followed by trips to the post office, credit union, gas station and grocery store. Had a nice phone visit with Brian. My first ever lasagna making effort did not produce the desired result. Edible and little else.

Saturday brought the writers group meeting at 10:00 and a bunch of mail. I watched two horse races: would have won on one and lost on the other if I had been betting. I made a sour cream pie that was the second best I’ve ever made (I’ve made two.)

Sunday started with church and Sunday school followed by brunch with friends. Did some reading and napped off.

I’m so happy that I moved the old and rarely listened to phonograph down-stairs. I have many records and over this weekend I listened to music by Emmy Lou Harris, The Chuckwagon Gang, Vern Gosdin, Tito Guizar and Pedro Vargas plus other music by Polish, Scottish, German, Tyrolean, Irish, and Mexican groups. I love music.

Following the report of a knife attacking several present at a Texas college and two of those that the knife attacked remaining in critical condition, it is obvious that those members of the nutcase left need to immediately start the process to rid this nation of knives. Fortunately for those who will lead this effort, there is believed to be no nationwide organization that would oppose such an effort. Also, it may not be exposed to second amendment problems. Linden is as guilty as many of you: he has a kitchen drawer that contains several sharp knives…they could be planning an attack right now. Please do your part and contact some of those “leaders” who have evidenced some willingness to lead an effort such as promoting a ban on knives. Some of you must be proud! As you may remember, strike one was called on him for failure to oppose Harry Reid as Senate leader; strike two was called for his support of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense; strike three came as a result of him voting for the Senate budget; and, strike four is now called for him reversing his stated belief and coming to support gay marriage. Arrrgh!

Tuesday brought the GOP breakfast at Prestwick at 7:00. Later, I went to the post office, a bank, and the credit union then corresponded a bit with Julie and Brian. I had a dinner of ham and beans and jalapeno cornbread followed by some excellent cookies at the Legion in Avon. For the second night in a row I stayed up late to watch NCAA basketball final games. Enjoyed the games but really object to the vocal contortions displayed as our national anthem is sung.

Linden could just as easily titled this piece heroes and heroines. In his over eighty years in this vale of tears he has had precious few public figures that were truly outstanding in his eyes. One was Winston Churchill, the British leader in the WWII years; another was Jack Elam the actor that Linden viewed while he was in Alaska roughly 60 years ago (see film clip below); the third was our former President, Ronald Reagan; and the last of the group that immediately come to mind was recently deceased British leader Margaret Thatcher. The foreign press coverage varies from sorrow to joy and the U.S. coverage will probably reflect the same. Linden believes that she was absolutely great.

Monday started with me meeting some people at the Mission House and then going on to breakfast at Chick-fil-A. Then to a grocery, the post office, back by the Mission House and then home. Had a nice long phone visit with Julie and a shorter one with Jade. I had moved a table downstairs along with an old phonograph that thanks to Ray repairing some speaker wiring it is now working fine. Five of us were present for our usual Thursday breakfast. Wayne gave the prayer and the reading. Good way to start a day. I went to the post office and, later, went by the church. Was busy on the computer for hours and did not have the nap I wanted.

Linden finds sickening the move by the Associated Press to do away with “illegal immigrant” when referring to an illegal immigrant. Actually, political correctness in general often leaves him just a bit nauseous. Perhaps a movement should start where the offending “news” source is called when they fail in this regard. The Michelle Malkin article linked below explains much better than most could ever do.

Wednesday got off to a bad start but ended well enough. Initially my broadband access did not work and I was a few hours late in posting my blog and my coffeemaker and my microwave would not work so I had to heat leftover coffee on the stove. Ray solved that problem pretty quickly. Ron came by and we went to White Castle for lunch. Most of the day I had problems while attempting to modify some earlier writings.

“Jesus is risen” is the message on this most holy day on the Christian calendar and it deserves to be treated as such. Certainly it should not be used for cheap political grandstanding by the one who is leading the service. The place where the Obama family attended Easter services reminded Linden of the reputedly hate filled Chicago church where Obama is said to have attended for twenty years. Tuesday brought trips to the post office and by the church. Dan and Diana came by for a visit in the afternoon and, in the evening, I had dinner at the Avon Legion Post.

STRIKE 3 ON DONNELLY

It is no secret that Linden wanted Richard Mourdock to be elected Senator from Indiana in the recent election but it was not to be. You may remember that Linden called strike one on Senator Donnelly for his not actively opposing Harry Reid as the democrat leading the current Senate. Strike two was called for his support of Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense. There were probably countless other times that strike 3 could have been called but it takes too much time to follow all the misadventures of a democrat politician. So, today we call strike 3 on Senator Joe Donnelly for effectively being the deciding vote in adopting what this writer considers to be the Patty Murry budget. This budget (s con res 8) raises taxes and projects 10 year budget deficits ranging from 406 to 917 billion dollars.

MARCH CHRISTIAN STUDIES

Attendance at Plainfield Christian Church is a continuing blessing for me and all who attend. Sunday services featured Steve White presenting a study of Ephesians through 2:13 the first 4 Sundays and a great message on Easter Sunday. John Lee led the Sunday school class through the study of First Samuel and started on Second Samuel. I only attended two of the Wednesday evening services which were primarily concerned with women of the Bible. Larry Bellville led our first early Friday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast  and Steve White led the last four studies of II Peter.

The Thursday small group men’s meetings were led in prayer and readings by Chuck Kiefer, Paul gunning, and myself. The first Saturday breakfast meeting at Chapel Rock CC was led by Fred Rodkey. Jeff and I did some readings and Mike gave the closing prayer at our men’s meeting at Kingsway CC on the 16^th, and I, along with five others, attended the CDCMF meeting at Franklin Memorial CC on the 18^th.

Brian came for a most enjoyable visit on Wednesday evening and stayed until Friday afternoon. We watched I.U. lose in the NCAA tournament and other games as well. Saturday was uneventful. After church services on Sunday, I , as usual, went to Sam and Shirley Friedman’s for the Easter buffet at Ft. Harrison. We were joined there by their daughter and two of her friends. It was great!
