COMMENTARY: INDIANA’S RELIGIOUS FREEDOM LAW

Linden has read several articles regarding the trials of business owners who have been slapped with discrimination suits while attempting to honor religious beliefs. Linden has not carefully followed the issues but does have sympathy for a business owner who is being persecuted by the government. Inquiring on “suits filed by gays over religious discrimination” brought ten cases on the first of several pages on this subject. In Linden’s opinion, those making the most noise about the Indiana case are in the wrong. You may get further info from the article linked below.

Monday started with Sam coming to my place and we went out for breakfast. Then, he did my taxes. Happy me! Later, I went to the Legion Post and got some info for Don. I picked up my mail, filled my gas tank and by then most of the day was gone. Brian and I exchanged recorded messages.

COMMENTARY: CONTINUING SICKENING LEADERSHIP

Probably no thinking American, not counting our President, can be proud of the Bergdahl deal: can you imagine a situation where you would be willing to trade five terrorist America haters for custody of a person who in earlier years would be in danger of the death penalty? After an almost sleepless night, Friday started with the always good Men’s Prayer Breakfast. I tried but failed to nap during the day. Had dinner in the evening at the Plainfield Elks Club.

Saturday started with breakfast at the Avon Legion Post then picked up my mail, some medicine and some groceries. Later in the afternoon I called Plainfield Town Council candidate Dan Bridget. He came to see me and it was amazing what we have in common: I did a pilgrimage in Spain and that is on his bucket list; he, with his family, visited several of the places in Ireland that I expect to see in September; he has been in the same area in Austria that I have been in; I planned on trying to climb Mount Kilimanjaro before Brian and Julie nixed the idea, he plans on dong that; a picture of his grandmother is in one of my State Police books; his mother and my dad worked in the same department store and I worked there nights my last two years of high school. It was an enjoyable visit. Later, I watched basketball.

Sunday brought church and Sunday school attendance followed by brunch with friends. Kent brought me some delicious cookies that Donna had made. I watched a bit more basketball.

Thursday started with breakfast with Bill and Chuck and it was the usual pleasant time. I picked up my post office mail on the way home then spent about three hours addressing a problem the Dept. of Revenue has with my S Corp. taxes. Guess it is a problem for me too. In the evening I watched quite a bit of basketball.

On Wednesday I met a friend for cinnamon rolls, coffee, and conversation. Good visit. Then, I picked up my post office mail, returned home and, feeling like I may be catching a cold, took a cold pill and slept for about three hours. Felt better then. Late in the afternoon a phone repairman came and solved the line problems too late for me to make it to church for dinner. So, I stayed home for the evening.

COMMENTARY: FAITH IN THE ELECTORATE?

There can be no doubt that Lisa Schiffren is an accomplished thinker and writer of the first order and her article linked below, if it is accurate will make one of Linden’s fondest dreams come true. However, we must not forget the absolute stupidity of the majority of the voters in the last two presidential elections. They are still with us. Many when selecting a leader who will have tremendous effect upon American citizens are unable to think beyond the letter d. How can we begin to educate such a large voter base when they have no desire to learn?

COMMENTARY: TED CRUZ SOUNDS GOOD!

Following the Monday posting of this blog mention was observed that admitted little knowledge of Ted Cruz: Linden commented that Cruz is currently one of his two favorites to be our next President. Rush Limbaugh commented on Monday that some people seem surprised that Cruz can speak without the use of a teleprompter: a refreshing change from the speaking skills of the current robot. The link below takes you to an article outlining the speech and a video of the entire speech. The speech is long and often uses the word “imagine”. I ask you to imagine our current President delivering the same speech with or without a teleprompter. Imagine!

Monday started with biscuits and gravy at Chick-fil-A followed by a trip to a grocery and the mail collection routine. I was unable to do the exercise I hoped to start. I did make significant progress in arranging my stuff for the upcoming tax preparation. Dan and Diana came by for coffee and conversation. They just returned from a trip to Texas. I guess I will not talk now about the letter I received from the Indiana Dept. of Revenue. I hope you noticed my updated Linden’s Legacy info at the start of this writing.

COMMENTARY: LINDEN: ONE OF 27,000

If you have paid attention to the Linden’s Legacy portion of these postings you are familiar with his Bless A Stranger entries. In a nutshell, Linden has a habit of providing donations (usually small) to back the hopes and/or dreams of others. One of those he backed is the successful effort to produce a movie about the disgusting abortionist, Kermit Gosnell. Apparently Linden is one of the 27,000 people who backed this project. My Friday started with the early morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast and was followed by trips by the Mission House, the church, and to pick up my mail. Later, Ray came by and fixed problems in the bathroom. I exchanged E-mail with Brian regarding my noisy phone then watched I.U. lose a basketball game. Had dinner at The Plainfield Elks Club: first time I had eaten there in several years and I saw several people I rarely see.

Saturday brought the monthly men’s breakfast at Kingsway Christian, Later, I picked up mail, took some that was home delivered to church, and made good progress on some projects at home. Exchanged messages with Julie and watched the first half of the Butler basketball loss.

My alarm failed on Sunday and I did not make it to church services: did attend Sunday school. Kent brought me a phone in the afternoon and it appears that the phone noise is the result of a line problem. Had plenty to do inside but hope to start exercising again tomorrow.

COMMENTARY: LINDEN LOVES SHARON

Niece of my good friends, we first met in Florida many years ago when she was probably about 13 years old, slightly older than Brian and Julie, It is possible that I saw her again since we visited there about every year. Although we have not had personal contact, we reconnected on the internet probably close to ten years ago Since then, she has edited several of my books and wrote one, “Caroline”, that I think is the best of it’s type I have ever read. Didn’t publish it though: should have. How could I not love someone who would, on St. Patrick’s Day, do as she outlines in the following note she sent me?

Dear Linden --

I finally submitted your name to the Indiana Authors Award folks (three days to spare!!!). This is what I told them:

Linden Swift has been writing books, poetry, songs, and stories, participating in writers groups, and volunteering as a "reading buddy" in elementary schools for many years. Now in his 80s, Linden is an inspiration to everyone who marvels at his inability to keep still. At an age when most people start to slow down Linden started a blog which he continues to update daily. He created a board game to be used by home schooling families to teach their children fiscal responsibility. He recorded a cd in which he sings songs that he wrote. His writing is opinionated, funny, and not easily categorized. He writes about faith, about politics, about his life and upbringing, about imaginary situations, cooking, sports -- you name it. He would represent The Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award and the state of Indiana with honor and dignity.

Later, I had a wonderful bowl of grits at The Diner in downtown Plainfield, visited the Maple Hill Cemetery, went to the credit union, mailed my S Corp. taxes, stopped by church, then was inactive for a couple of hours. Had dinner and attended a study at church in the evening then Scott came over and got my printer to work again.

COMMENTARY: TOO DUMB, TOO DUMB, TOO DUMB!

Yep, Linden is thinking of a couple of LARGE groups in America. Perhaps the members of these groups were cursed by the family or social groups they became part of, perhaps they were dropped on their heads as babies, or, maybe, they are just not good at analysis. No more lecturing from here today. I’ll just hope some of those in these groups will take the time to read the article that is linked below and miraculously become able to think. It was a great St. Patrick’s Day!! Received notes from two American Legion members in Ireland and surely hope to see them in September. My mail brought me another check to help sponsor my Ireland trip…I simply can not believe the support I’ve been given. I say again, I am blessed. I had breakfast out, a spot of lunch at home, picked up my mail, worked on S Corp. taxes… should get them in the mail Wednesday, Talked to Brian, sent a note to Julie and had dinner at the Avon Legion Post. Got a couple of St. Patrick’s Day special wishes. Yes, it was a great though busy day.

COMMENTARY: PICKING A TRAVELING COMPANION

If Linden had unlimited funding and if he were married to Michelle Obama, he would choose to travel with someone, anyone, else. If he were a female and married to someone like our President, he would travel with someone, anyone, else. In the evening, the CDCMF group went to Franklin Memorial CC where we had a good meal and Josh Cadwell presented a great message. I talked to his wife, Becky, for a minute. Friday brought the early morning Men’s Prayer breakfast, a trip to a bank and the post office. Talked to Brian. Watched I.U. lose a good game.

On Saturday I dropped off some misaddressed mail at the church, then on to breakfast at the Plainfield Masonic Lodge: first time I had attended there in a long time. Went to the post office, the credit union and the Plainfield library for a writers group meeting.

Sunday I attended church and Sunday school but did not go out for brunch. Later, I started looking at S. Corp. taxes and was amazed that my filing and reference systems had rebelled again. It was not fun and there is more to do. I heard that both I.U. and Butler were selected for the NCAA tourney. I finally completed putting push pins in the Ireland map.

The Indianapolis Star provides a daily listing of reader’s comments called “Let It Out”. The following appeared in the March11, 2015 issue: “Let us hope that Congressional Republicans letter to Iran upsetting attempts at agreements are not obstacles to a better relationship and peace. This matter, if only a start, is far too important for politics as usual.” Linden will not comment on a dishonest President negotiating with a dishonest terrorist country regarding allowing the production of nuclear weapons. Wednesday started with addressing some pending matters and then having breakfast at Chick-fil-A. It was another in a long series of busy days. In the mid afternoon I decided to tune my TV to classical music while I balanced my checkbook. The TV wouldn’t work so I called the provider to no avail, contacted Brian and 30 minutes later I listened to music and did the balancing. He is a pretty good son. In the evening, had dinner and attended a study at church.

This Lisa Schiffren written piece is about the best on the subject that Linden has seen recently. That does not mean agreement with every word she wrote. For example, I believe Sarah Palin to be a bright and shining star who is correct far more often than our President, I believe Jeb is posing as moving rightward rather than moving, and Ted Cruz is even better than pictured. Oh yes, they were there!! But it seems the leftward biased “news” media simply can not report anything that is modestly accurate if it would contain any reference to anything that is even a little bit favorable to Republicans. The question asked in the title of this piece refers to the article linked below and here is Linden’s attempt at an answer: First, you should know that for America Linden believes that the worst Republican is better for America than the best democrat. The problem, he thinks, is that too many democrats have been successfully posing as Republicans. This would include Mitch McConnell and John Boehner…they are joined by maybe as many as 102 others who have sold a bill of goods to the voting public. It is a sickening time for one who cares only that our representatives and President serve the best interests of this once wonderful country.

Saturday brought the monthly breakfast at Chapel Rock Christian Church: good food and, as usual, a good message was delivered by Fred Rodkey.

Sunday found me attending church and Sunday school and then having brunch with friends. Busy around home in the afternoon.
