NERVOUSLY, FEARFULLY WAITING

Since the plan is to make this posting early on Friday morning, Linden does not know at the time of this writing the late Thursday Congressional actions in regard to budget and debt related matters.
It is fair to say, with the White House and Senate offering nothing except criticism to this point and threatening to veto or drastically change anything that does come out of the House, there is little reason for buoyant feelings.
Is Linden wrong in believing that the country should now be operating under a budget that was prepared by the democrats in 2010? Oh, wait…they didn’t do their job then either.

BASELINE BUDGETING (AGAIN)

Thanks to Rush Limbaugh’s Wednesday broadcast, I decided to say a few words about baseline budgeting again…probably for about the eighth time in the roughly four years I’ve been attempting to educate you.
Basically, under the baseline budgeting approach the current year budget is increased a percentage to become the baseline for the next year. If this raw amount would be 500 billion dollars and through congressional action the actual increase becomes 250 billion dollars…it is then reported as a tax cut of 250 billion dollars when in actuality it is an increase of that amount.
The truth of this matter is never reported in the MSM or by those in Congress.
Rush said that under this type of budgeting the budget in 2021, ten years from now, will be 5.7 trillion dollars…two trillion roughly more than it is now. Correcting this should be a focus of every conservative.

MATTHEW 16:1 - 17:27

After answering questions by the Pharisees and the Sadducees, Jesus then instructed the disciples to be on their guard against these church leaders. Peter acknowledged that Jesus was the Son of God and Jesus started warning the disciples to prepare for his death.
Later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on a mountain where he shone like the sun and was joined by Moses and Elijah. When they came down, Jesus removed a demon from a boy, performed other miracles, and again warned the disciples of this approaching death.

PRESIDENTIAL IMPEACHMENT PROCESS

This process to come to conclusion originates in the House as what amounts to an indictment and ends in trial form in the Senate.
The subject is brought to your attention because Linden believes that some person or persons are primarily guilty of our country being in the terrible financial condition it is in today. The guilty should be penalized. Linden believes the person primarily responsible is our President.
The most likely charge could be “other High Crimes and Misdemeanors” and even that is highly unlikely unless by his power he causes Social Security and other like payments to be withheld. We live in an interesting time!

TWO AGAINST ONE

The current major disagreement in Washington boils down to this: the White House and the Senate democrats are in favor of borrowing more money to waste until the election in 2012, cut nothing, raise taxes and present no budget plan. The House Republicans presented the Cut, Cap and Balance plan where it was shot down in the Senate, they do not want to raise taxes (although an effort will be made to force them to do so,) they do not want to go deeper in debt (although an effort will be made to force them to do so,) and they want to cut existing expenditures…although not as much as Linden would prefer. That’s it! Meanwhile much of the media is exerting every effort to make the Republicans appear to be irresponsible. The links below elaborate.

A NEW HERO

For several months Linden’s list of real heroes was limited to one person, Sarah Palin. Then, she was joined by Michele Bachmann with Herman Cain on the verge of becoming part of the list. More recently, Allen West (R-FL) became a full-fledged member of this outstanding group. Linden had long admired this military hero but had not advanced him to the list of political heroes.
Within the past few days Mr. West rose to defend himself against continuing personal attacks launched by Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (d-FL). His well-written e-mail was, finally, a response to a verbal attack on the floor of the House.
Although his action was not admired by all (probably because they were unaware of the background,) Linden believes that his stance should be adopted by all Republicans who are unfairly attacked by the liberal left nut cases. The article linked below is quite good.

IF - THEN - WHAT?

Some things are certain at this time in American life: our President and the democrat Senate has provided absolutely no leadership to this point in regard to money and debt management. The news media appears to have accepted as fact that if Obama does not get his spendthrift wishes, then it will be not at all possible to meet some of the obligation such as Social Security, health care (Medicare,) and military pay. Others (who have a better record honesty record) say that the media is wrong in this regard and that Obama is telling another whopper.
Linden believes that massive budget cuts could be made quickly and easily, that feeding the public a diet of savings predictions spread over a ten year period borders upon being dishonest and is worthless information, and that if our leaders determine that raising the debt limit is absolutely necessary, the increases should be accomplished in three month increments and be not more than one quarter of that which has been said to be necessary for the next year. This would keep the focus on the problem.

MATTHEW 15:1 - 15:39

The Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and questioned him about the eating habits of the disciples. Jesus answered that it is not what goes into the mouth that is unclean but what comes out of the mouth.
In another location, Jesus healed the daughter of a Canaanite women. The daughter was suffering from demon possession.
In a location near the Sea of Galilee a crowd of about four thousand men plus women and children gathered around Jesus. He healed many of them from a variety of ailments and, once again, using seven loaves and a few small fish, fed the crowd.

VOTING PATTERNS

Linden has wondered for quite some time how in the world Massachusetts voters can justify voting for Barney Frank and why the black population is so heavily biased in favor of democrats. The first two links below may have given Linden a clue to the answer to these questions.
Certainly the bias of network “news” provides part of the answer…perhaps we should refer to it as network opinion. Star Parker is one of several blacks that Linden thinks is a rational voice regardless of the subject…Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are not part of this admired group.
In a nutshell, at this point Linden has to believe that the Congressional District that Barney Frank represents must have a high percentage of black voters. Thanks to these two links for helping Linden’s thought processes.

SUBJECT SELECTION

Usually Linden scours several news sources searching for something that he finds interesting and that maybe you will too…the endless repetitions of our juvenile President and our Congressional leaders need a shot of something new. So, today he will mention some things you can search out yourself, if you wish. Texas Representative Sheila Jackson-Lee says Obama has problems because he is black. He is half-white, you know. About the only persons Linden considers to be dumber that the racial bigot Jackson-Lee are those who would vote for her. Hot Air mentions that the Obamacare waiver total now totals close to 1500. Charles Krauthammer has a good “Calling Bluff” article, and Linden found the Jedediah Bila interview article in Human Events interesting. Regarding Bila, have you noticed how beautiful many conservative women are?

SOME BAD NEWS + GREAT LINKS

The bad news centers upon the inability, to date, of our political leaders to agree upon a plan which will provide a workable budget for our country, stop piling up debt for those who follow us to pay, and not go nuts raising our taxes. Particularly unsettling to Linden was the threatening by our President to stop payment of social security and the upkeep of our military. You who voted for him surely must hang your head in shame.
Regarding the links, the videos of our current Miss America present a really classy 18-year-old, President Bush continues to grow more impressive, the video of the deaf baby hearing for the first time is super, and I like the music link. Some months ago, starting with music from 1930 (Linden’s birth year), a piece of music from each succeeding year was presented on Friday…now, Linden has given up on popular music after about 1985. He will modify his Friday presentation to something that was once popular.

SHALLOW THINKING

The proposal by Senator McConnell to allow Obama to raise the debt ceiling without Congressional action was received with unbelief and consternation by conservatives. Why in the world would any Republican get the democrats off of the hook this early in the current financial debacle? These few words are the first example of shallow thinking.
The next example comes from a call made by a “Republican” to a talk radio show saying that he, because of McConnell, could no longer support the party he claimed to be a member of. How in the world are any of those who were first elected to Congress last November responsible in any way for the actions of one person who is too eager to compromise? How can any person who was pleased with the results last November and hopes for continuation of the trend in 2012 engage in such shallow thinking. The actions of one is not reflective of conservative thinking.

MATTHEW 14:1 - 14:36

John the Baptist had spoken against Herod because of his relationship with his sister-in-law, Herodias. The daughter of Herodias danced at the birthday party for Herod and he granted her a wish. Because of her mother, she asked for the head of John the Baptist on a platter…her wish was granted.
When Jesus heard of this, he wanted to be alone but a large crowd followed him…he spoke to the crowd and healed the sick. He caused five loaves of bread and two fish to feed the crowd of over five thousand men plus women and children.
Following this, Jesus had the disciples start by boat across the lake while he stayed alone and prayed. Later, he walked on the water to the boat. Peter got out of the boat to walk with him but his faith failed him and he started to sink. Jesus helped him into the boat. On the other side, they were met by a crowd and Jesus healed the sick.

DON'T BLINK

In at least three earlier instances of negotiations with the democrats, the Republicans blinked, accepted as an honest agreement the promises made in regard to reducing the cost of government in exchange for a tax increase and suffered the consequences of misplaced trust.
Surely the present Republican leaders will not blink! Surely they will place no confidence in any promises made. Now is the time for immediate cost cutting (not the pie in the sky promise of so much over a long period of time.) It should not be difficult to identify really meaningful cost cutting. Tax increases should remain off the table.

A GLIMMER OF HOPE

A GLIMMER OF HOPE
With the media focus being so much on the wrangling over spending and debt, it is sometimes hard to find anything hopeful to focus on. It does appear that a movement is afoot to repeal the banishment of incandescent light bulbs…that would be good news…how could such a law ever have been considered in a positive light? Maybe next we will get to see an effort to do away with federal funding for the ethanol abomination. It will take years to correct a major portion of the mistakes made since the democrats took control in 2006. God help us.

Normally, Linden presents for your approval (or whatever) links to two or three articles and/or videos. Today, he, in an effort to stir your thought processes, presents a greater number; enough to keep your mind occupied over the weekend.
If you will, picture a college professor teaching a college level class as to how to show African men how to wash their genitals after having sex…perhaps if they don’t engage in sex acts they don’t need to wash. $278,000.00

Is there nothing the guy can do except spend mostly borrowed money, dazzle the media and look foolish? Perhaps Linden is biased. Perhaps not. Talk radio and the believable portion of the print media were full of reports, according to the White House, of the amount of taxpayer debt that was used, supposedly, to create jobs. As is true of almost everything that is reported, we can not believe much of anything that is reported regarding job creation or expenditures.
It would seem that the report of $278,000.00 being spent to “create or save” one job is just a bit excessive. No wonder that under the Obama regime our debt has increased from under ten trillion dollars to over fourteen trillion dollars. Can you even imagine a trillion? MATTHEW 13:24 - 13:58

Jesus tells a series of parables that illustrate the difference between good and bad. In closing he said, “ This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Moving on from there, he went to his hometown where the people were amazed at his knowledge and the difference between him and his brothers and sisters. Since he was not well received, he performed few miracles before moving on.

RONALD REAGAN SAID #4

Last Tuesday, Linden started his posting with these words, “Thanks to a recent THE WEEKLY STANDARD editorial writing, Linden became reacquainted with a speech Reagan made in 1980:” today, we continue with that still relevant series.
“The administration which has brought us to this state is seeking your endorsement for four more years of weakness, indecision, mediocrity, and incompetence. No American should vote until he or she has asked, is the United States stronger and more respected now than it was three-and-a-half years ago? Is the world today a safer place in which to live?
We are not a warlike people. Quite the opposite. We always seek to live in peace. We resort to force infrequently and with great reluctance-and only after we have determined that it is absolutely necessary…but neither can we be naïve or foolish… We know only too well that war comes not when the forces of freedom are strong, but when they are weak. It is then that tyrants are tempted.
Let our friends and those who may wish us ill take note: The United States has an obligation to its citizens and to the people of the world never to let those who would destroy freedom dictate the future course of human life on this planet. I would regard my election as proof  that we have renewed our resolve to preserve world peace and freedom. This nation will once again be strong enough to do that…

INDEPENDENCE DAY
On this date 235 years ago 56 men signed this document, the Declaration Of Independence, one of the most notable in the history of mankind. This group paid proper allegiance to our God.
Since that time, over 600,000 Americans have been casualties in major wars and a large number in smaller efforts. Many were unknown and uncounted. Many more were wounded.
These sacrifices were made in order for us to continue to enjoy the benefits of living in this country. Guard these benefits both in the battlefield and at the ballot box.

RONALD REAGAN SAID #3
On Tuesday, Linden started his posting with these words, “Thanks to a recent THE WEEKLY STANDARD editorial writing, Linden became reacquainted with a speech Reagan made in 1980:” today, we continue with that series.
“I’ll tell you where I stand. I do not favor a peacetime draft or registration, but I do favor pay and benefit level that will attract and keep highly motivated men and women in our volunteer forces and an active reserve trained and ready for an instant call in case of an emergency.
There may be a sailor at the helm of the ship of state, but the ship has no rudder. Critical decisions are made at times almost in comic fashion, but who can laugh? Who was not embarrassed when the administration handed a major propaganda victory in the United Nations to the enemies of Israel, our staunch Middle East ally?…
Who does not feel a growing sense of unease as our allies, facing repeated instances of an amateurish and confused administration, reluctantly conclude that America is unwilling or unable to fulfill its obligations as the leader of the free world?
Who does not feel rising alarm when the question in any discussion of American foreign policy is no longer, ‘should we do something?’ but ‘do we have the capacity to do anything?’”
--
These questions of just over thirty years ago are quite fitting at this time in our nation’s history!

LINDEN’S LIFE
On Thursday, had breakfast with Jack and Paul…Bill and Chuck were absent. I picked up my mail, did a load of wash, and talked to the lovely Laura about a change in my blog layout I may wish to make in the future. The rest of the day was occupied with reading, writing, doing paperwork and other like matters.
