In this, the first posting since August 17, it seems appropriate to mention my impressions of the Republican Convention: it was enjoyable to watch. It was incredible how much Ann Romney reminded me of Rubye.. now gone nine years and still missed. You can check my eyesight in this regard by checking the picture associated with the Linden Swift song #8, "Our Rainbow" on Youtube. Needless to say, I loved the Ann Romney portion of the affair. All speakers were excellent. I was very favorably impressed with Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Mario Rubio, and Mia Love.

Thursday started with the usual good reakfast meeting with the five other guys. This was followed with a visit to the Chamber of Commerce and going by the post office to pick up my mail. Mostly junk. In the evening we had the best rain shower we have had in months.

WHAT TO SELECT?
Determining what to write about when presenting a five-day-a-week blog is one of the daily problems. For today, Linden could have selected something regarding VP Biden apparently thinking he was in North Carolina while he was speaking to a small crowd in Virginia or maybe a few words about him saying that the Republicans will “put y’all back in chains.” It is sad to think that this bad joke has been on the taxpayer funded payroll almost forever.
Finally, it seemed like a good idea to say a few words about Medicare. Being 82, Linden should have no real concerns in the area for himself…after all, it has been reported that it will last as is for another twelve years. For those who are only 70 or so, maybe you should be concerned. For the younger set, major concern! A related link appears below.

Tuesday found me dropping off my recyclables, picking up my post office mail, and dropping by church in the Morning. Dan and John dropped by for coffee in the afternoon and I also had a long, pleasant phone visit with Julie. She and Kenneth had vacationed in Mexico since I last talked to her. Linden so rarely watches the major media outlets that you could almost honestly say that he never watches them. Therefore, he has not a clue as to which corporations sponsor the poison they spit out. If he had an accurate list of those advertisers, he could contact each of them to inform them of his one man boycott. First, he would like to address CBS. According to Rush Limbaugh, they edited out mention of his mother being a Florida Medicare recipient from a Paul Ryan interview. Next, one of their star libs has been chosen to “moderate” a Presidential debate. Lastly, Rush provided the audio from at least ten of these media chattering class members, each saying that the selection of Ryan ensures a choice not a referendum in the Presidential race.

A foreigner spoke in each of our six church services Sunday…he stayed two nights in the Mission House and I took him to breakfast Monday morning. We had a very nice visit. He left shortly after noon. It would be difficult to find three words that more aptly describe the present U.S. situation. My thanks to Paul Ryan for providing them for us. The debt increase under the stewardship of President Obama would have been considered to be unthinkable at any time prior to his inauguration. Doubt in his ability to lead this country rightfully increases on a daily basis. Despair is exactly the right word to describe the feelings of those millions of unemployed…especially hard hit are that portion of the population that completed their college studies in the last four years.
Linden joins many other conservatives and the remainder of the population that is capable of rational thought in welcoming Paul Ryan as the Mitt Romney choice to fill the position of Vice President. He bears absolutely no similarity to the present occupant of that office.

On Friday, I attended Men’s Prayer Breakfast at church at 6:00. Later, Paul and I had lunch at Chick-fil-A. Little out of the ordinary on Saturday. On Sunday, it was church and Sunday school services followed by a bluegrass concert wrap-up meeting. Watched the Colts win a pre-season game in the afternoon.

My day started with breakfast with the guys…our guests from Poland departed from the Mission House while I was away. Their time here was so short this time that I spent little time with them. It is without question that black pastors have considerable influence with those they attempt to serve. Unfortunately, from Linden’s point of view, they seem to choose to not be well informed about some political realities. This has, once again, in Linden’s view, put them in the position of appearing to approve of government actions that are contrary to the well being of the black (and white) population. Much has been made in the media regarding Harry Reid saying that some unidentified person had told him that Mitt Romney had not paid the taxes that he should have and that he should produce his records. Thursday morning was occupied with having breakfast at Chick-fil-A (last Wednesday was not the only time they should be shown support,) going to two grocery stores, the post office, and the credit union. Also did two loads of wash. In the evening Paul, Judy, and I went to a town hall meeting put on by our Representative Todd Rokita. It was very well done. We then had some ice cream and they came in my place for a few minutes to sample some of the chocolate Dimi sent me.  It was a good evening.

On Friday at Men’s Prayer Breakfast Bill brought the chocolates that Dimi and Kevin had sent from Austria via Jerray and Vicky. I love chocolate. In the evening, Paul and Judy picked me up and we joined Lloyd and Marsha at a good music concert at Hendricks County Senior Services in Danville. I had a couple of chocolate chip cookies and a piece of persimmon pudding while there. Good!

Saturday I attended a good men’s meeting at Chapel Rock Christian Church.  Did some benevolence related stuff. Madonna surprised me with one of her rare calls in the evening.

Sunday, I awakened before the alarm went off to the sound of RAIN. There was lightning and thunder and I was greatly pleased. Attended church, Sunday school, and had brunch with friends. In the afternoon, our bluegrass music and Southern gospel that I have mentioned went very well.

A recent news item was concerned with Harry Reid saying that he had received a call that informed him that Mitt Romney had not paid taxes for ten years. He seemed to think that, because of this call, Mitt was obligated to share his tax information with the world. Linden’s first thought is, who cares? His second thought is that Harry probably does not want every tax cheat to be named.

Rush Limbaugh used his Thursday radio show to say that he had received a call from a person who claimed to have attended Harvard with our President and that his grades were sub-par and may have been inflated by professors. He also said that the person who shared tax info with Harry was guilty of a felony and Harry should divulge just who this person is. Interesting!

Fairly recently the GSA made the news for one of their lavish celebrations in Las Vegas…this resulted in some personnel changes. Now it seems that a lavish bonus system for their employees has been brought to light. One has to wonder just how many of these blatant wastes of taxpayer monies could be uncovered if a dedicated identification and eradication process were to be put into effect. These are just further evidences of the effect of the baseline budgeting system presently in use. Maybe the upcoming election will root out some of those in Washington who are unfriendly to the taxpayer.

On Tuesday, Paul, Lloyd, and I met Les at Chick-fil-A in Avon for breakfast. It was a good get-together. Later, I went by a bank, the post office, and the church. At church, Mark told me that Monday was a very good day for the Plainfield Chick-fil-A…his son works there and I had talked to him when I was there Monday.  In the evening I had a very good dinner at the American Legion Post in Avon.
