DECEMBER CHRISTIAN STUDIES

Steve White presented sermons based on Psalms 67, Matthew 1, Kings and God With Us. Mike Isaacs and John Lee concluded the study of the book of John. Steve White led the Friday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast studies in the book of Isaiah, and our Thursday morning small group was led in prayer and study by Bill, Jack, Wayne, and me.  The monthly meeting with the men at Kingsway was, as usual, a good meeting and daughter, Julie, and granddaughter, Jade, attended a great Candlelight Communion service with me at my church, Plainfield Christian.

Monday, the 30^th, started with trips to two groceries, a store, and the post office. Dan and Diana came by in the afternoon for coffee and conversation, I called Lynette Baldwin to complement her for the fine solo she sang at the Sunday service…she was accompanied by her dad on the guitar. In the evening, I watched a good 1941 movie, “It Started With Eve” starring Deanna Durbin.

THREE BIG LIES

As Linden searched for commentary ideas, the first thing that seemed worth your attention was the Obama related article linked below, in it these three big lies were mentioned: (1) “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan” (2) “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” and (3) “taxes on the middle class will not be raised one dime.” Enjoy reading the article before the continuing disaster increases.

My Friday was off to a different start with there being no Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Julie and Jade came by in the evening for another great visit.

Saturday started with Sam coming out to have breakfast with me at the Legion…he brought me a “U.S. AIR FORCE VETERAN” cap…had another nice visit with this long term friend. Julie and Jade came by in the afternoon to tell me “goodbye” as they were returning home. Rarely have I enjoyed anything more than I did the time recently spent with them.

Sunday brought church and Sunday school attendance…Jill Stout bought me a book for our upcoming studies. Had brunch with friends. Got a flu shot, and watched the Colts win a football game.

THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS

Thursday started with breakfast with the guys, five of us were present with Wayne being absent. I did the reading and gave the prayer. Later, this became a very lazy day with very little being accomplished. Julie and Jade came by in the evening , we had something to eat and watched one of Jade’s DVD’s. Then, we visited a bit while Jade played with her “stuff.” It was another very good day.

What a difference the event that this day commemorates has made and will make in the life-after-death experience of millions of Christians. Thank You God! Thank You Jesus! Thank You Holy Spirit.

My major effort of the day was my attempt to make caramel corn based on the recipe that Donna furnished…my end product was not nearly as good as what she made. Julie and Jade came over in the evening bringing presents, including a box of them that Brian had sent: my kids are wonderfully thoughtful of me. Jade sat on my lap quite a bit as she colored designs in a book I gave her. We collaborated on coloring one of the designs. A great Christmas for me. Blessings to you.

This day started with me dropping off my recyclables and then going on to the post office, credit union, and a grocery. Back home engaged in phone calls, E-mails, and taking a nap. In the late afternoon, Julie, Jade, and I had a good restaurant meal for supper and then on to a great Candlelight Communion service at church. Many of the church staff were involved with the program and Jade was one of the many small children who went up on the stage as Julie Proctor read a Christmas related story as the corresponding video was shown. My Julie attempts to attend this service with me every year and I love it. There would be no Christmas without Christ. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

ON BEING INTOLERANT

ON BEING INTOLERANT

Linden can tolerate (even be friends with) homosexuals (“gay” seems to not fit well if you associate the word usage with “happy”,) and other forms of human life that does not conform exactly with his view of what is right and desirable. It seems to him that it is most often some of the “gays”, blacks, Muslims, and those involved with acting and journalism careers who are most often intolerant. The Mark Steyn article linked below is easily tolerated.

Friday brought a great pitch-in meal at Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Good meeting! Sandi cleaned my place while I was there. Julie and Jade arrived in Plainfield and I had a phone visit with Julie.

Saturday brought a good breakfast and meeting with the guys at Kingsway church…I did a reading, John gave the closing prayer, and Jeff took care of handling Christmas for a needy family for our group. Don and Donna hosted an absolutely great dinner party for four other couples and myself in the evening. I had spent some time with Julie in the afternoon.

Sunday brought church and Sunday school attendance followed by brunch with friends. I talked to Brian and Sheri and spent several enjoyable hours with Julie and Jade.

Yes, Linden does know that it requires a small stretch to consider this political commentary…unless you tie it to the liberal supported decrease in decency. But, since there have been recent instances of this error in judgment occurring in central Indiana we will comment regardless. It would seem that guidance should have been addressed by example in the home and buttressed by academics. Imagine these foolish students six or eight years in the future and a hoped for employer is saying “I have in my hands your application, the necessary background information you supplied, and a nude picture of you from an earlier time. Will you please explain your thinking at that time and why we should consider you for employment now. There are other suggestive comments that could be made. If a person is being pressured to do such a posing, they should emphatically say, “if you had even the slightest regard for me, you would never suggest such a sleazy  action. GOODBYE!

Wednesday was a very busy day…first met a friend for a cinnamon roll and conversation then on to the post office and by the church. Did some wash, picked up a gift, and went to the store. To the best of Linden’s memory, this is the first time that he has devoted the majority of his commentary to favorable comment regarding a black lady. Probably the only one previously mentioned was the wife of our inept President and that comment would not have been favorable. Some other black men have been mentioned: Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the black Congressional caucus, and maybe another racist black preacher or so but none of that counts today. Stacey Dash has apparently made statements that any thinking person should be able to support. She should be supported to the full. OOPS! Just remembered making favorable mention of Mia Love. Largely because Linden believes that one of the very most important matters facing our nation is that the Republicans gain control of the Senate in 2014 while retaining control of the House, he has mixed emotions regarding the budget bill brought forth by Ryan and Murray. He does not expect anything that Murray is involved in to be truly beneficial to our nation and he is not sure that Ryan is as conservative as he should be. Linden would prefer that Ebenezer Scrooge were Secretary of State but, since both Kerry and Clinton are democrats, perhaps we should not expect competence. Hillary should be remembered forever for her lackluster performance in the Benghazi incident that led to the killing of Americans and we can expect that John will be remembered by a series of blunders, highlighted by the mistake in regard to Iran. Tuesday started with breakfast at Chick-fil-A and I then went to a couple of stores. Unfortunately, this was followed by driving on a flat tire a couple of blocks to Big O Tires…the tire had a hole in the sidewall so I had to buy another. Then, on to drop off recyclables and pick up my post office mail. So, up to this point the day hadn’t been great and I made it even worse by starting to look at my 2013 book publishing/sales taxes. Linden has never made an in depth study of Nelson Mandela…it does seem that for a number of years he was viewed, as a Marxist, with great disfavor in the U.S. and I believe that it was Rush Limbaugh who today mentioned that he had many opportunities to be released from prison during his long incarceration if he would only renounce terrorism. Obviously, he didn’t do so. On the other hand, Margaret Thatcher was a strong ally and supporter of the U.S. and she certainly deserved better than she received from the Obama administration. As for Marilinda Garcia, she is presented as a bonus view of a conservative woman being demeaned by a liberal guy. Good links below.

Other than trips to the post office and to Pier 14, Monday was a day devoted to paperwork inside and out of the cold. Finished up one of my long-running projects. Due to the heavy snow, the Men’s Prayer Breakfast attendance was down on Friday. I had slept so little that I took a nap after I returned home. Little activity but did talk to Julie for a little while.

Saturday I took some books to try to sell at a shoppers fair, it was nice but I didn’t get rich. Watched I.U. and Butler win basketball games.

On Thursday, Linden was not paying close attention to the words of Rush Limbaugh (a favorite news source) while he (Linden) worked on another time-consuming task The words “playing Santa Claus” did ring enough of a bell that attention focused a bit. It seems that Obama and some members of the party of evil recently held a meeting to try to ascertain what would best take the news focus off of Obamacare. Apparently they decided upon income inequality, minimum wage, and immigration as being three of the items the lap dog media should focus on. Think about it.

The best thing about Thursday was the message from Julie which indicated that she is feeling better. The next best thing was the weekly breakfast meeting with the guys. Later, I went to the post office, credit union, and a grocery. It was a busy day trying to catch up on tasks that I am behind on.

Wednesday started with a message from Julie saying that she is really sick, probably with the same virus that Jade had. I hate that. Mid-morning, I had coffee and a snack with niece, Peggy, at a local restaurant. Followed this with trips to the post office, to get my printer ink cartridge refilled, and to a book-store. Later, Julie’s mother called to share a text message with me. I don’t do text messaging so I appreciated the call.

REVISITING BENGHAZI

It has been many months since the American loss in Benghazi…months in which the political leadership and the vast majority of the media did not give it the attention the attack deserves. Our President referred to the attack as “a bump in the road” and Hillary Clinton said, “what difference does it make?” The following poem illustrates that it is more than a bump in the road and that it makes a huge difference to those who have not forgotten the attack.

The Battling Boys of Benghazi

We're the Battling Boys of Benghazi,
no fame, no glory, no paparazzi.
Just a fiery death in a blazing hell
defending the country we loved so well.
It wasn't our job, but we answered the call,
fought to the consulate and scaled the wall.

Steve White concluded his sermon series based upon the book of Ephesians and then turned to God’s will in regard to financial matters. The study of the book of John. led by John Lee, was the subject of each Sunday school class. Larry Bellville led Wednesday evening classes on spiritual warfare, Steve White led the Friday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast studies in the book of Isaiah, and our Thursday morning small group was led in prayer and study by Bill, Chuck, Jack and Paul…two visiting Ministers from Ghana joined us one Thursday.

It was too dark for me to drive to Chapel Rock for our November meeting but later in the month I did make it to Kingsway to meet with that group. Also attended the CDCMF meeting at Cumberland Christian Church.

Friday started with the usual early morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Later, I had a pleasant coffee break with three other guys at a restaurant then watched Butler lose a very close basketball game and caught most of a good  movie. Julie and Jade came by: we went out to eat and then watched “A Christmas Carol” and then some of a Linda Rondstadt Mexican music DVD.

Julie and Jade came by Saturday evening for another very nice visit.

Sunday brought church, Sunday school and brunch with friends. Watched the Colts win a football game and caught the last part of the Butler basketball loss. Then watched some boxing.
